Texans @ Chiefs AAR

Mangler

Toro de España
Unless you’re a new Texans football fan, you are definitely not surprised that our home team has been knocked out of the playoffs, in the divisional round, as always. Please spare me the “you ain’t a real fan” or “youre a fair weather fan” for calling it like it is.

We need change on offense and we need it NOW! Good thing we have Hannah, otherwise, we’d probably trot this same bs out there again next season.

Texans put up a good fight and didn’t embarrass themselves today. But ultimately they didn’t get the job done. Another year another second round playoff exit in the DeMeco Ryans era.

What went well:

1) Running game:
The Texans were able to run the ball at will against the Chiefs. 150 total yards rushing basically all in the first three quarters.

2) Super Bowl Caliber Defense: This defense got us into the dance and kept the team within reach throughout. They are a championship caliber defense and all core players are scheduled to return next season. Very encouraging going forward.

3) C.J. is Playoff Tough:
My goodness he sold out his body for the team repeatedly. He gave it everything he had today. He made some mistakes but he is my QB! What a warrior.

What did not go well:

1) Special Teams:
Frank Ross, why hath thou forsaken me?! Our elite special teams unit failed in all phases. Aside from Robert Woods’ heads up play to force a touchback every ST play seemed to prove costly. We had missed FGs, missed extra point, blocked FGs, long return with penalty add-on, bad punt… Too many times the Chiefs got the ball on a short field. You can’t give them that many opportunities, it was like giving them turnovers.

2) Inexperience: Just gonna make this a catch-all for some of the decision making. The decision to go for the 55 yard Fg against the wind instead of playing field position, rushing a 4th down attempt after making the call late, not making adjustments and allowing the future HOF TE to run free, going away from the run game too early and allowing the Chiefs to exploit the Texans’ leaky pass protection…. I chalk all those up to inexperience. The Texans played the most experienced playoff football team in the league. The majority of these players are on their 4th playoff game. Chiefs are onto their 7th consecutive AFC championship. That inexperience was glaring in the 4th quarter when they kept staying a step ahead of the Texans.

3) Pass Protection: Spags found the leak on the right side of the Texans OL and exploited it when the Texans abandoned the run game in the 4th quarter. Particularly getting matchups against Dalton Schultz. A banana peel would be more effective than Schultz in pass blocking.

After enduring multiple division round losses we have to be better in the regular season and fight for better seeding.

We were unlucky with injuries this season and it showed tonight. No threats outside of Collins and Mixon. O Line better be fixed (coaching, scheme, upgrades). I'm watching Caserio closely to see what moves he makes because everybody can see where our deficiencies lie. We have no TEs. Schultz isn't it. WR is once again a concern because I don't know if we can trust WRs returning from really ugly lower body injuries.

Defense was solid and played hard. Just need some guys back healthy and more work with protecting the middle of the field and defending TEs.

Fairbairn. He has been great and then when we need him at his best we get a game like tonight. He needs to at the very least be forced to compete for his job.

They need to make that a 15 yard foul the other way.
I was thinking earlier about the fake outs.

IF a QB does something like a fake slide it should be a 30 yard penalty, fine AND the official removal of about 90% of protections that QBs enjoy these days.

Doubt QBs will be so eager to try the fake outs if they know their team will be hurt, their wallet hit hard and their body hit much much harder.

You want to stop it... make it severe if its done.

Whelp, I didn't really expect to beat the Chiefs at Arrowhead but I'm glad we put up a pretty decent performance.
Allowing 8 sacks was not good.
And going for it on 4th down With 9:30 plus left on the clock was not a good decision but at that point it was still an 11 point game.
The missed 55 yarder by KF hurt but those are not automatic.

I’m not gonna kill this team today. They played well considering the **** we all watched with the refs. Offensively, time and time again KC was bailed out by **** calls that extended drives for them that ultimately led to points. Enjoyed Aikman’s reaction to the BS roughing call. That Kermit the frog talking joker has been getting away with **** like that for years and the NFL needs to address this **** in the offseason.

Offensively we moved the ball and looked good..we just didn’t have enough playmakers to really be able to put pressure on KC’s defense.

ST’s…yeah Kaimi gave us a number of wins this year with clutch FG kicking and this game he decided to give them all back.

Looking forward to what this team does with the WR group..and o-line.

I’ve lost all respect for Patrick Mahomes.

But CJ Stroud is my quarterback.

And last, but not least, and I cannot believe I’m saying this, but now I actually believe this game is rigged. That safety removed any doubt.
I can't believe its rigged or else Id never watch another down...but... this game didn't help to argue against it.

I don't get the fascination with wanting to trade Tunsil. Why make a huge hole in what you are trying to improve?

What happened with the safety?
