CJ Stroud year 2

Goff tossed “5” INT’s and walked away from this game the winner. CJ’s INT to open the 2nd half had zero impact on the game b/c Goff gifted the Texans and Slowick an INT right away. CJ will be just fine as he’s still developing. By the way, I don’t think he’s even in a sophmore slump….he has zero faith in his OL and Slowick’s play calling. Slowick’s play calling and OL have also managed to piss off Mixon, which isn’t surprising.
His second half interception did matter because they didn’t score a point in the second half lol

Not saying CJ is perfect. Never have.

Im also not saying he is crap simply because the coaching staff doesn't help offensive players succeed by putting them in position. Good coaches put players in position for success

If you have inept coaching the wrong plays will be called consistently and even good QBs will be on an offense that looks like ass.

I also don't know to what extent CJ has to audible out. If his hands are tied he can only go with what he has to work with.
If the good players were playing instead of being on the sideline injured, I bet the coaches on both sides of the ball would look better.

If yall haven't figured it out yet about the op, yall will. They're sour because of CJ agent. It's easy to see he's struggling and the offense in general, but keep replying and reading and it's pretty clear. Yall take it easy
I dont like Stroud's agent either.

But after seeing him last yr I'm fully on board with him. With that said he's regressed and was a big reason they lost last night.

At the podium, “To win games, guys have to step up and make plays” - Demeco

He’s going to lose this team. Slowik called 25 run plays for less than 50 yards lol. Players aren’t stupid Demeco.
They're playing shorthanded.

Ok, please enlighten us. What is this “conversation” that you want to have?

Is it that CJ Stroud is not a good quarterback anymore? Really? Really? REALLY?.

I hope that when his rookie contract is up, he blows this popstand.
I'm not saying this, I'm saying he had a bad game and his season hasn't been nearly as good as last season. Can he get better? Of course he can. Why would you want Stroud to leave if you're a Texans fan?

Uh.. it's Their job to come out in the second half and read defenses.. at least Bobby's job, and he hasn't done it all year, Bobby in the second half is like a Mormon on prom night. People hanging this loss on the players.. or even Stroud, I just don't get it.

You ever had a boss constantly set you up to fail and then when you finally fail, is it really your fault? If Bobby would've done his damn job this season we wouldn't even be taking about this..
Was it Bobby's fault CJ threw an int on the 1st play of the 2nd half. Was it Bobby's fault that after the Texans drove the field Stroud threw the lollipop int in the endzone?

This particular “can’t criticize Stroud” mentality is very reminiscent of when Watson QB’ed that 24-0 blown lead and every one and their mother blamed ONLY O’Brien for that. The QB is the face of the franchise. Like it or not, he takes the most blame as he should.

No, but play calling sure had a big hand in last nights 2nd half collapse as well as in most every game this season. Everyone with a set of eyes could see this iteration of the OL was not working…so it’s a bit perplexing that it took the staff 9 games to finally address one of the elephants in the room.

I also hope Ryans isn’t trying to deflect all the 2nd half offensive woes to Bobby, b/c he’s the HC and could let him know at halftime or anytime on the sideline that he wants this offense at full throttle in the 2nd half or rest of the way.

The play that bothered me the most was the 4th & 4 where Ryans decided to go for a 59 yard FG to take a 3 point lead with 1:50 left in the game. The play was to go for it on 4th down. If you make it, you can burn the Lions time outs and setup a shorter FG. It’s the call Ryans would have made last season. This season, Ryans doesn’t have the same faith in the offense. Maybe he shouldn’t. But you can’t win coaching like that.

Minute you start coaching scared is the minute the downfall ensues

There have been two things that have plagued this team:

-Pass protection

-Play Calling

We fixed the first. Now we have to fix the play calling.

When the second thing is fixed than Stroud will be Stroud.

Just saying that the bigger problem that is hurting Stroud’s performance than himself.

Now he has made errors and should work on those. But the bigger problem is play calling now the line seems to be semi-fixed.

The Chiefs scored 16 points yesterday and their offense has been bad for 2 seasons now and I don't see anybody calling for Reid's head

Getting Nico back is going to make a big difference for Stroud.

No it was Bobby's fault that picked matter.. this is what y'all who keep bringing up two picks (AGAIN, Goff threw 5) aren't understanding. Picks happen and if Stroud was a pick happy QB which we all know he's not. I'd be upset about it, but he's not what cost us the game. We lost that much earlier in the first half and on.

You watch the same damn offense I have watched this season.. what the hell is Bobby Slow and I emphasize Slowik's offensive Identity?! This issue doesn't have crap to do with Stroud and two throws, because that's just one game.. let's talk about the season..

I didn't think that they could fix protections.. you said they could. Damnit you were right and I was wrong. Patterson is actually a pretty good center, he was nailing stunts last night. WHY THE HELL DID IT TAKE UNTIL WEEK 10!

That's coaching... Why the hell are we running on 3rd and 10 in the first half! This isn't a Stroud issue. Y'all's complaints is like blaming herpes simplex 2, because a wart popped up. Stroud threw two horrible picks in the second half of a game that already should've been decided with normal functional NFL play calls. Double/triple reverse on first down.. WTF WAS THAT?!

For everyone who says this game is on Stroud and not on Bobby... 5 interceptions and short fields... 21 points left off the field in the first half.. only 2 TDs scored all season in the second half despite having the 2nd best back in the entire league.. yeah I'm calling a spade a spade, Slowik sucks. He's a PFF nerd who doesn't realize analytics don't equal live yards

The offense will look a lot better when Nico's back.

I F*** hope so. Sorry still venting, Last night was embarrassing.. notice nobody is preaching Slowick's name anymore

Competent caller + even Bryce Young with 2 picks, we win that game. Bobby Slowik with Stroud and loses that game... Yeah he's a special kind of stupid and he's not some savant, he needs to be removed after this season.

Criticism of Stroud's play this yr is warranted.
Nobody ever said he's above reproach, but even from keystrokes you can tell when it's a personal vendetta. Let me ask you, when Goff was struggling big time and it's 3rd and long backed up, what did their oc do? Once the completed swing pass after swing pass down the field, look at the td to Brown. Oh, another wr screen. Again, Stroud isn't playing well, that's part of it, but they're not doing alot to help either. Oh. Let's run at DJ Reader, maybe that will work. Let's throw a wr screen to Robert Woods who wouldn't get snaps on other playoff teams. Let's line up 2 tes, tight formation when neither are good blockers and neither are down field threats. Oh, let's walk to los every time never change tempo. I mean at some point you have to adjust I would think. Even on the int in end, CJ wasn't ready to throw when Dell popped open because of the playaction and his back was turned.

Let's let them get healthy and see how the season turns out before that call is made

Have you seen Reid's offense this year? Fans would be calling for his head if he was the Texans OC. Out of the last 15-20 years which OC haven't we complained about?

They ran the same wr screen to Dell that the Lions used with Brown. It didn't work. The TE position is an issue. They should look to add an Austin Hooper type TE.

I would have liked to see them use more tempo, but they made a decision before the game to shorten the game and have less possessions by running down the play clock.

How they called plays just before the 2 minute warning bothers me. That should have been throws on 2nd and 3rd down IMHO.

Never said it wasn’t. I don’t attempt to protect players like you do when it comes to Tunsil.

We’ve all been on this site for quite sometimes right. Well you should know the OP.
I don't protect Tunsil, I just happen to think he's a top 10 LT who's played hurt in the playoffs and is currently playing hurt He's certainly not soft.

CJ was pressured 9 times yesterday and was sacked four times. Only three quarterbacks were sack more in week 10. That's not good. Stroud has been hurried 41 times, the most in the league, he has been knocked to the turf the 6th most in the league, and he has been sacked the second most (34) behind only struggling rookie Caleb Williams (39). Those aren't just numbers. It's affecting his play, and more importantly his body. This line is testing CJ's durability.

Note: week 10 knockdowns and hurries haven't been posted yet.

Great QBs overcome that. Not use excuses.

What excuses is he using. I’ve never heard him point the finger at anyone but himself.

We all understand the man has played just 25 games so far, right?

I don’t know who you consider the top young QBs in the game right now with at least that many starts, but CJ is right up there statistically with all of them. Leaving out Mahomes, who’s of course already getting fitted for a gold jacket, taking Burrow, Hurts, Lamar, Allen, Herbert and Love off the top of my head, after their first 25 starts CJ has more yards than everyone except Burrow and Herbert, a better TD/INT ratio than everyone but Lamar, and he ranks 4th in passer rating among these 7 QBs. And CJ has been sacked 72 times in 25 games. Burrow had 79, and the next closest in that group is Allen with 59.

So if anyone has a problem with CJ Stroud, it has to be stemming from something that isn’t coming from the field because he’s up there with all of these other QBs AFTER 25 GAMES!

Sorry they’re not reserving a room in Canton for him in his 2nd ******* year.

Dude has plenty of learning and growth to do in this game, and despite the POS o-line he’s had here, is off to a pretty good start.

Everybody wants Mahomes results and that’s just not realistic.

And look at my post right above this one….
That is ridiculous for any QB!!

I was mad at his choice as well. I think that’s what separates the contenders from the pretenders. You’re either ALL IN or you’re out. Teams like the chiefs, lions and kc would have went for it. What’s stupid about that situation is, while our kicker is good, we lost a game the same way last season. Coaching is about learning from your mistakes. The coaching staff lacks in that department. Throughout the game they were doing a solid job on guarding St. Brown. The 3rd down to get into field goal range, they put a line backer on him instead of doubling like they were most of the game.

Za’Darius Smith said he told the defensive linemen to just listen to the protection.

He then said they were able to get some pressure after that. And that he was happy they got 4 sacks after making that call.

Guess the QB that has run the most plays in 3rd and 10+ yards to go this year??
Yep, CJ, 50 plays. 50!
Next closest is Rodgers at 37
Caleb and Daniel Jones next at 36.

That’s just ridiculous
Right on the money. Kind of wild Cj was the best 3rd down qb at one point while being the qb with the most 3rd and long plays. Fans deserve Cj but the coaching staff doesn’t. Kc, Baltimore, bills never out there franchise qbs on rookie deals in preseure situations. Fans taking him for granted is strange because we haven’t had elite qb play for majority of our years. 26 teams would gladly love to have Cj. At least there coach/oc will use him correctly
