CJ Stroud year 2

They're playing shorthanded.
So we’re the Lions. It’s a next man up league, why there’s 53 men on a roster. Hutchinson or metchie didn’t played bad. They’re not a Deandre Hopkins or Nico Collins but their serviceable at there position. I’m very optimistic and will call out anyone who isn’t doing there job including the qb. Just so happens Bobby Slowik isn’t carrying his weight

When was the last time Mixon was in on 3rd and more than 5? Somebody gonna tell me Dare is better at anything than Mixon? A swing pass to Mixon can result in big yards. He's a more than capable receiver and runner, plus he tough to tackle in space. Yet since his injury, Dare is the 3rd down back. Good guy, all around player, but he's no Mixon

They aren't bad players. But defenses dont respect them.

A guy like Valdez-Scantling is another avg guy, but they have to respect his speed which loosens the defense up and makes it easier to run the ball.

I think equal blame goes to coaching, o line, and CJ. Regarding CJ, I'm less concerned about his few bad throws than I am his movement/awareness in the pocket. It wasn't as bad as last game, but still an ongoing challenge. I think it will improve over time. They need to put the right pieces around him because he doesn't have the quick, elusive athleticism to escape pressure on a regular basis.
He took two 10+ yard sacks I can think of that was him playing super man. He's got to beat the pass rush more times than not. It may sound unfair, but that's the NFL.

Just to be a starting caliber QB in the NFL, he just needs to not make bad decisions. Loosing yards on a sack is not good decision making. Oh, & then there was the one where he tried to get the ball out before his knee hit the ground... sometimes stuff like that works out for the anointed. But mere humans need to tuck that ball in & take the sack. Bad things usually happen when you're throwing sidearm with a 300lb DE mauling you.

Green was a piss-poor pass blocker but he was good in the running game. Scruggs is a better pass blocker, but he's weak as hell and a liability in the running game. He can't drive block not pull and get the blindside block. Don't even think about him getting to the second level. Maybe it was just Reader & McNeil are too big and strong for him and he will look better down the line, but I don't think so

Yes. They ran that exact same play 3 or 4 times in the first half and you could see it coming before Stroud turned that way.
It was obvious the Lions DBs were told at halftime to start jumping routes and create turnovers. Campbell was telling the sideline reporter just that before the 3rd quarter. The OC and the QB have to anticipate that.

Exactly. Tank caught 5 passes for only 39 yards. So, they were looking for the short passes. On that same note. It's probably why he got so wide open on that end zone INT. The Lions didn't expect him to go deep. LOL.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results

Stroud - 50 - team record 6-4
.
.
.

Deshaun Watson - 37 - team record 2-7

Aaron Rodgers - 37 - team record 3-7

Caleb Williams - 36 - team record 4-5

Daniel Jones - 35 - team record 2-8

There's a trend in there somewhere...I wonder what it could be .......even when he's not playing his best, he's still pretty damn good.

From Alex: "Is it time to have a conversation about Stroud, or is the O-line really just that bad?"
It's the offensive line. Stroud is excellent. He threw a bad pick Sunday night, but that doesn't erase 1½ years' body of work. I know it can feel like the sky is falling, but it rarely is.

Agree. Also, when the foolishness is called out. The default straw man argument is fans cannot criticize Stroud. So, the best solution is to not engage. The schtick is tiresome.
The actual straw man is blaming the OC every year like Texans fans do.

And again you shows us why we can’t take your type of criticism seriously. You just showed you hand again.

Took up for Mills but you want to crap on CJ because of blank and his agent.
And if you actually paid attention, you would see the narrative being painted by Aaron Wilson’s latest tweet that the Texans held Nico out for no reason. Keep being naive. These are grown men. Not high schoolers or little leaguers. But the Texans’ current QB is apparently a mama’s boy whose mother gets on twitter and says he shouldn’t have to be accountable for his bad play. It’s also funny how our last QB couldn’t handle criticism or being accountable. Some of you are falling for the same script yet again and I don’t feel sorry for you.

Well this is factually incorrect as I defended Mills. Or are you talking about Watson, whom cannot read a defense? Terrible take, JB.
I was talking the starting QB, not the backup. Terrible response D

Great QBs overcome that. Not use excuses.

No offense, but you say this like someone who's never been hit by a human freight train.

Stroud is to blame for much of the loss, but his performance last year proves he's not the root cause of problems this year. That belongs to specific coaches. Not because they lack ability, but they're stubborn. There's an idealism involved here that we also complained about with Kubiak (I say that as a Kubiak fan). I personally think it's the Shanahan run-first philosophy, which is why Slowik kept Kenyon Green in the line. He's actually great at run blocking. But now the shell-shock and disruption to Stroud's processing has knocked the QB and offensive coordinator out of alignment, and the coordinator needs to be the one to adjust, not the 23 year old QB.

I think we're all hoping Stroud starts playing better.

He will and the Texans offense will be above avg come playoff time. If he does this and the defense can play this good missing a bunch of guys, when they get healthy look out. The defense should be really good. It's all about the playoffs.

Only thing the same is the record and completion %
Everything else is not as good but not bad Feels worse doesn’t it…

That's what i thought when i saw it..You'd think CJ was way off his pace from last year. Reality is 2 big games puts his numbers right on pace to be exactly where they were last year & b/c he missed 2 games last year, His numbers could still be better than they were last year...if he and the offense got it going.
