NFL Random Thought of the Day

All he has to do is win games. Stefanski has proved to me he can win games last season. Stop playing around & let the man cook. Cleveland fans don't give a flip how much money they wasted, just win baby, just win.
People like Haslam and Jerry (Jones) would rather go down with the ship than ever admit that they made an inexcusable mistake.

They can say it’s a football decision all they want. The fact of the matter is what Mulgheta and crew will do to Haslam will make the smear campaign they launched against Cal look like child’s play. Rusty was Haslam’s attorney at one point. He knows where those bodies are buried and they are ugly. There will be retaliation for any benching. This is a prime example of not only to not sell your soul to the devil, but to never sell your soul to the devil who knows your secrets. (Rusty)
There is nothing they can do that can overcome the smear of his current QB play...also their backups are Winston and Thompson-Robinson so at least one angle is eliminated.

Flacco came in and outplayed Watson last year. He didn’t come back because Watson didn’t want him back. Understand the control he has out there. No other QB is touching the field unless it’s an injury or suspension.

What smear campaign? Cal didn't bench him.

Bryce Young got benched. Their were a few questions for a couple of days. Carolina won, no more questions. They move on. The media don't care, the fans don't care. Just win.

You don’t remember the campaign against Cal where the Watson camp said Cal was a racist and didn’t do enough for social justice issues? It DAMAGED the Texans brand until the cases came out. Watson’s camp will go after Haslam for any such demotion.

The Bryce situation and Deshaun Watson situation (230 million guaranteed) are two different situations. The Browns are not going to bench him. They see him daily. They know he has zero zip on his passes, yet he is still starting. It’s not happening voluntarily.

I'm saying it didn't come about because they benched him

Not to the fans. They've got a playoff team wasting away.

The fines keep rolling in.

NFL fines Lions DB Brian Branch for two illegal actions in Week 3
By Charean Williams
Published September 28, 2024 09:46 PM

The victory over the Cardinals was a costly one for Lions defensive back Brian Branch.

The NFL fined him $20,256 for a pair of illegal actions, one of which was a hit that sent him into concussion protocol.

One of his $10,128 fines was for unnecessary roughness for use of the helmet on Cardinals tight end Trey McBride in the fourth quarter. McBride did not practice this week and will not play Sunday after being diagnosed with a concussion.

Branch has cleared concussion protocol and will play.

The NFL also fined Branch $10,128 for unnecessary roughness for striking/kicking/kneeing an opponent, who appeared to be Tip Reiman, on kicker Matt Prater’s 42-yard field goal to end the first half.

Two other Lions were fined.

Linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin lost $11,255 for unnecessary roughness for a late hit on wide receiver Michael Wilson in the second quarter.

The NFL docked safety Kerby Joseph $7,505 for unnecessary roughness for a hit on a defenseless player when he hit Marvin Harrison Jr. after cornerback Terrion Arnold was bringing down the receiver in the fourth quarter.

Need to ask the expert @CloakNNNdagger on this. Seems like desperation.

Here are my chronological thoughts that started right after the his injury. My thoughts are unchanged...............we will not see the Chubb of old. His forthcoming challenge, if or whenever he can return, is to STAY on the field.

All the reports were originally saying that Chubb was believed to have only suffered an MCL injury. I originally commented that it had to be a multiligament injury among other things.

As I find out, during surgery they confirmed and repaired a ruptured MCL, a ruptured medial capsule, a torn meniscus...................as well as the ligament I was sure was also ruptured...........the ACL [for this combination of injuries, definitely sustained a formal dislocation of his knee]. In a multiligament trauma, the ACL is commonly staged. In Chubb's case, the ACL repair will be addressed sometime in the next 2-3 months. Also undoubtedly, there has been significant articular damage................additional to the time he previously in 2015 sustained a serious multi-trauma to his knee............a dislocated knee, 3 torn ligaments (posterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral and lateral collateral) and articular cartilage damage. The surgeon and team is now reporting that he will return for the 2024 season. If he is even able to return at all, which I believe is questionable, you will not be seeing the Nick Chubb you know. He'll likely also be looking at microfracture surgery.

It is yet to see how functional he will be after his multi knee ligament multi knee surgeries. No doubt, his articular cartilage has sustained significant damage.

Nick Chubb agrees to lower base salary in revised contract with Browns
By Josh Alper
Published April 11, 2024 08:28 AM

As much as the Browns have lauded Nick Chubb's recovery and= readiness for the regular season, they have announced that he will begin on the PUP list. I feel that even when Chubbs returns this season, he will not be anywhere close to the Chubbs of old.

That’s typically what happens to the smartest guys in any room.
Fans and media have talked and still talk about how this has played out. Derrick is a sunken cost so Haslam may as well give his HC the leeway to make the best decisions that will win football games. Does he not understand that would go a long way in improving how he is perceived...unless he doesn't give a hoot.

Walt Anderson’s NFL Network officiating segment ignored biggest blunder of week
By Mike Florio
Published September 29, 2024 10:52 AM

Former NFL official and recently-former replay czar Walt Anderson is serving in a communications-style role this year. Those communications include communicating with NFL Network’s audience, as the league-owned outlet’s “Officiating and Rules Analyst.”

It’s a position that had been mostly non-existent in the years since Dean Blandino went to Fox for less stress and more money. In an age of legalized gambling, the complete lack of officiating transparency was becoming more and more glaring.

Now, with Anderson, the NFL can create the impression of transparency. That’s good, but it’s not enough.

It’s one thing to have a mechanism to discuss calls on the air. The bigger challenge is picking the calls to be discussed.

Sunday’s segment included an explanation regarding the penalty flag that was picked up on the Cowboys’ first touchdown of the game. (Here’s our story on it; Anderson’s segment omitted reference to the fact that the broadcast incorrectly assumed the call was holding, which could not have been fixed via the replay assistance function.) It omitted any reference to the more controversial moment from that same game.

The officials called Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger for grabbing the facemask of Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown. As highlighted during the broadcast (after the drive ended), Overshown grabbed Bellinger’s facemask. The end result was a 30-yard swing; the Giants were penalized for 15 yards when they shouldn’t have been, and the Cowboys avoided a 15-yard penalty of their own. The Giants ultimately capped the drive with a field goal.

What could Anderson have said? At a minimum, he should have explained this isn’t something that could have been fixed via replay assistance or full-blown replay review. That would have helped the audience better understand why the mistake wasn’t corrected.

But this would also confirm that the rules allow such mistakes to be made, with no way to rectify them. That’s the real issue.

Without a mechanism to correct egregious errors that potentially can impact the outcome of a game, an opening exists for an official who has been compromised by gambling interests to impact the outcome of a game with what appears to be an egregious error.

All it takes is one scandal, and Congress will be in everyone’s business. The NFL can’t prevent the scandal; the NFL can make it harder for the scandal to be implemented.

That’s the challenge. Adding enough layers and levels of real-time oversight to prevent a rogue official from making a “mistake” that is something much more nefarious than that. If the NFL isn’t willing to have Walt Anderson talk about such loopholes to the integrity of the game, there’s no reason to think the NFL will be willing to close the loopholes before it’s too late.

If the Jags can't turn the season around, both should get the boot. These guys are tied at the hip, even if they don't realize it.
Baalke shouldn’t have gotten a GM job again after running off Harbaugh in SF and ruining that franchise until Lil Shanny/Lynch rebuilt them.

I’m glad the Jags gave him the opportunity though… :)

He gives me Easterby team cancer vibes.

Pitre can't cover.. and luckily Trevor can't throw.
It’s more of the defense they’re playing than Pitre really. Later in the game when Meco finally switched it up, Pitre was making plays back there.

Part of it is They miss Harris as the coverage LB. The other part of it is they’re relying on 2 rookies in the secondary in Bullock and Lassiter. So they’re gonna have some growing pains back there either way. I assure u you don’t wanna see Boyd or Bryant in the nickel. who you say? …& I say, EXACTLY. So it’s either Pitre or more of Murray..which I don’t think you or anyone wants that either.

Rashee Rice looks to me that he suffered a hyperextension of his knee when Mahomes accidentally hit his own man in the upper thigh. Besides a quad contusion, I wouldn't be surprised if Rice sustained a knee bone bruise with possibly a PCorL tear if not an ACL. At very least, I don't see how he avoids IR.
