NFL Random Thought of the Day

Flacco took them to the playoffs. It’s been said by multiple people, including on this board, Watson didn’t want Flacco back. He still looks good in Indy.
Flacco was their qb in the playoffs..not took them to the playoffs. That's a big difference. Reality is there were 3 qbs who won games for the Browns that year. Watson, DTR and Flacco. Flacco only looked good in the Indy game b/c he came in relief & the team they were playing didn't get the opportunity to gameplan for him. In the coming weeks when he's playing b/c Richardson WILL be out multiple weeks, you'll see, Flacco will regress to the mean.

He's paying his penance for how he did us. So I'm not gonna say his end game in forcing his way out of here was to get that record contract b/c Cleveland didn't have to give it to him. All im gonna say is he got what he asked for..........& a whole lot more of what he didn't ask for & what he thought he was getting away from....Now he has a front row seat to a real dysfunctional organization.

The funny thing is, that situation is likely going to play out exactly how his last few years here played out. Stefanski & Brown will likely get fired after this season, but the Browns may not be able to hire a serious HC candidate b/c they know they'll be tethered to him...more specifically that contract........Unless Haslam does what that Denver group did with Wilson's contract and agrees to pay like 50-100 million of his contract just to land their coveted HC candidate............. & get him the hell outta there.
Yep, like I said when he was here, Derrick's a coach killer.

Funny how Stefanski won COY starting 4 QB's last yr and arguably the worst of the 4 was Derrick. I'm thinking Derrick's uncoachable.

You always go just a little too far with it lol. Demeco should've won COY last year over Stefanski...absolute screw job that Stefanski won it over him last year so i don't put too much stock in that. And any winning Stefanski has done since being in Cleveland is usually not related to him as a HC. He had 1 of the best running games in the league early on in his tenure there and that was directly attributed to Nick Chubb & him having Bill Callahan running that o-line. Chubb gets hurt, Callahan leaves this year all of a sudden that o-line looks like **** and so does his offense. Last year he won games off the strength of his defense. Offense was just meh.

"You know, they're great receivers," Huntley said. "I'm a pretty good quarterback, so I just got to hone into being on time with them and get more reps on it. That's the only way we're going to build is if we get more reps."

Agreed about Ryans

However Sefanski did a very good job last year too

Who hired Callahan, Schwartz etc....

$17.5 m this season [minus game checks received] for the team trading for him at 32 years of age isn't completely out of range, however, the next two years his base totals 70 million plus. I think only a fool would except that even if he did not cost any draft picks.

The Cowboys placed DE DeMarcus Lawrence on IR. He will miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return. The Cowboys have reported that he has a foot injury. He has in fact been diagnosed with a mild Lisfranc injury to his right foot. They say that he is expected to need 4-8 weeks. But he needs to be in a boot for ~6 weeks, so I believe he will be very lucky to be able to safely return before at least 8 weeks.

"I had tore my ligament," Simmons said. "I'm sure everybody heard of the Tommy John with baseball players. I had that injury. But I'm good now."

Simmons was told he didn't need surgery to repair the injury that required him to wear a large brace on his left arm last week. He missed practice on Thursday and Friday but traveled to Miami with the team for "Monday Night Football." Simmons told the Titans' medical staff on Friday that he felt he could play.

The Chiefs still say that Rashee Rice is being evaluated. They have not reported what the tests have shown so far. They have reported that they have not confirmed an ACL. As I've said before, if an ACL is ruptured, it would be very exceptional for a physical exam to not make the diagnose. However, even MRIs and arthroscopy can miss a partial ACL. An MRI is unlikely to miss a ruptured ACL, even with a great deal of knee swelling. However, knee swelling can make a partial ACL tear diagnosis on MRI more difficult and inaccurate. My guess is that that will not release the final diagnosis until they feel that most of the swelling has resolved and the MRI is clearer. With that said, there likely is other damage to the knee (posterior corner ligament, meniscus, articular, etc).

Patriots C David Andrews needs season-ending shoulder surgery and is trying to decide if he can play through the injury. He suffered a dislocation and has ligament and labral damage. At his position, he would do well to have the surgery sooner rather than later.

Or they already know they’re just trying to keep their next opponent in the dark for as long as possible to try to screw with their defensive game plan & prep.

@CloakNNNdagger any word on Levis' shoulder?
With the Titans having a Bye week, I expect that he will be able to return the week following (pain would be the only lingering factor, but if needed, he can received injections). What I can't predict is, due to his poor play all season, will he be pulled for Rudolf. The Titans have been steadfast that Levis is their starter........

Surely this will get laughed out of court
This guy says he's suing McDonalds, Burger King and Arby's for preying on his addiction too.

Unless Rudolph gets hurt, Levis is never getting his job back. They have 2 very winnable games coming up against the Colts & Bills. & if they somehow manage to win either 1 or both of those games, Levis may as well put his helmet on the that bench and grab that clipboard & ear piece.

imo he's in the perfect situation. The fans have seen enough to know he needs time, they won't be pressureing ownership to put him back in. He doesn't have to put his body through the abuse his style of play generates & he wasn't "benched" like BY.

If he's smart he'll take the approach Geno Smith did that's made him the starter in Seattle, unlike Rudolph, who is much better than Levis but was not prepared to come in & play. He got in the game & it looked like the playbook got smaller.

Derwin James says he “ain’t going to change ****” with playing style after suspension
https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profo...ange-****-with-playing-style-after-suspension

[It wouldn't let me post the link because it automatically censored the word ****] :smiliepalm:

Chargers safety Derwin James Jr. served a one-game suspension for repeated violations of the playing rules. He returned to practice Wednesday adamant that punishment from the league won’t force him to change his playing style.

“No, it ain’t going to change ****,” James said, via Kris Rhim of ESPN. “It’s definitely not going to change nothing. Like I said, I’m just going to go lower. I’m not going to change.”

James said he will focus on hitting players beneath where they are holding the ball.

“I’m not going to keep paying 700, 800 thousand [dollars],” he said.

James was flagged for unnecessary roughness for a hit on Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth in Week 3. It was his seventh career unnecessary roughness penalty, tied with Marshon Lattimore and Jordan Poyer for the second most in the NFL since
2018. Xavier Woods has eight in that span.

The NFL announced James’ unpaid suspension Sept. 23, and hearing officer Derrick Brooks denied his appeal the next day.

“They told me the violation, the rule I broke and that was really it,” James said. “It wasn’t, you know, [about] how I could get better or what they’re calling.”

James added that he’s “going to play my style, but like I said, I’ll just go lower.”

all...right about now, he'd probably welcome Flacco to play behind that trash o-line they have while he sits.
I'm not getting the sense he's the kind of guy who wants his team to do well without him. If they continue to flop he's got an out.

I know what you're saying about the OL but the guy under Center makes a huge difference. Look at Carolina

few qbs can thrive with an o-line as bad as the Browns’ right now.

You are correct in that a qb does make a huge difference, but Carolina is a bad example b/c Young just looks like he can’t play. DW4? We know he can play when he has adequate protection……or at least he could when we traded him. Right now, he just looks like a shell of himself and looks eerily similar to Cam after he came back from his shoulder injury. Throws the ball but he has no clue where it’s going. And after getting hit so much he looks shell shocked.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he wound up having a renaissance part to his career like Geno, Darnold, Baker and a few other after leaving that dump of an organization and getting better protected.

He should have never return so soon!

Jordan Love (knee) remains limited in practice
By Mike Florio
Published October 2, 2024 08:37 PM

Packers quarterback Jordan Love returned from an MCL sprain, only 23 days after it happened. He arguably shouldn’t have.

Love didn’t seem to be 100 percent against the Vikings. Given that Malik Willis had won two games in Love’s absence, maybe someone should have persuaded Love to wait another week.

As his next game approaches, Love was limited in practice on Wednesday, due to the same knee injury.

But egomaniac and career criminal Haslam is not Rob Walton, whose integrity and ethical business practices have always been a cornerstone of his leadership philosophy............He has always prioritized honesty.

The abdominal obliques have attachments to the hips and can cause hip pain............explaining how the injury was initially mistaken for a hip injury.

Here's another case of a player allowed to return to play in a game while injured and extending the injury.

"Considered day-to-day"????????? Even with injections, this is at least 3-4 week rest/rehab..................unless you're looking for a recurrent injury. And in a QB this core injury would certainly adversely affect his mechanics.

Report: Anthony Richardson day to day with abdominal, oblique injuries
By Charean Williams

Published September 30, 2024 06:00 PM

Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson left Sunday’s game with what the team called a right hip injury. Coach Steve Steichen said Monday he did not think it was a “huge, huge injury” for Richardson.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Richardson has oblique and abdominal strains and is considered day to day.
Richardson is not ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.

He played only 14 snaps against the Steelers, initially injuring himself on a 14-yard run before returning for two plays and then leaving for good.

Richardson now has missed significant portions of three of the eight career games he has started.

He has completed only 50.6 percent of his passes for 654 yards with three touchdowns and a league-high six interceptions this season. Richardson also has run for 141 yards and a touchdown.
From what I've found out, Richardson essentially has significant hip pointer. A hip pointer is a contusion of the pelvic rim (hip) with a significant bruising of the abdominal muscles (obliques) which attach to the rim [see figure below] caused by a direct hit to that hip area. Streichen shouldn't get too excited, since it can have deleterious effects on a mobile QB's performance.
