Week 2 Gameday Thread: Bring on 'Da Bears!

Heading to bed, but tomorrow I want to find out what in the sam hell was that bullshit Diggs spot??? He CLEARLY was past the first down marker. AND I'm not one to say the NFL is rigged/scripted/etc. but the fact that they called 0 holding calls against the OT blocking Anderson and Hunter is ridiculous.

He wasn’t past the marker. It’s where the ball is when it first hits white. By any angle shown, he was short. The spot was bad, but it 100% was not a first down.

I’m one who like to repeat Jeff Van Gundy’s quote, “never ignore in victory what you wouldn’t ignore in defeat.”

However, if you look around the NFL, there is a lot of sloppy football being played by all teams because the first 2-3 games of the season are an extension of the preseason games. Hell, the great Mahomes just threw for 152 yards, 2 INTs and the Chiefs won on a last second FG.

So, I’ll gladly take the early 2-0 record knowing the Texans have not played their best football and they are still figuring things out.
Spot on Earl hot darn it you’re spot on. Brother we as fans needs to stop looking for perfection. It’s early in the season and we’re going to make a lot of mistakes. Like I said last week, if they’re making some of the same mistakes in week 8. Then we should be worried. And it’s causing us to lose games, fire up the concern alert.

Caleb Williams “a little bruised up” after Sunday night’s loss
By Josh Alper
Published September 16, 2024 09:08 AM

The Bears scored their first offensive touchdown of the season in Houston on Sunday night, but it was still a long night for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams.

Williams was sacked seven times and hit 11 times in the 19-13 loss to the Texans. He was pressured plenty of other times as the Texans blitzed relentlessly, which contributed to interceptions on back-to-back drives in the second half and the Bears had four three-and-outs over the course of the evening.

After the game, Williams went the understated route when asked about the pummeling he took from the Texans defense.
“A little bruised up,” Williams said, via Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports. “You know, I took a couple hits today. I’m gonna get into the ice tub and do all the things I need to do to make sure that my body’s ready for tomorrow, practice on the other days and obviously next game.”

Head coach Matt Eberflus said the protection issues are on “everybody” and cited improvement in the running game as another way to make life easier on the rookie quarterback. The changes will have to come quickly because other teams are going to follow the same blueprint that Houston did until the Bears show they can handle it better than they did on Sunday.

Al-Shaair should have been tossed from the game. But I don't remember a regular punch drawing a post game suspension. Swinging a helmet, sure. It wasn't that.

Is Al-Shair looking at a suspension? I don’t really know where the NFL stands on such things. Am I right in thinking he should have been ejected from the game by rule?

Well he should have been ejected tonight and wasn't. I think a 1 game suspension would be fair considering..

Yes, he 100% should have been ejected tonight. Throwing a punch is an automatic ejection.
Surprised no one listened to, or heard, the explanation. There was no flag thrown (I'm guessing the refs didn't see the punch) but there being no flag, the upstairs officials can't call/create a penalty after the incident is seen in review. He should/will be fined this week. But even the announcers were uncertain whether there will be a suspension. Had there been a flag at the time, the upstairs officials could or would have thrown him out of the game.

I hope Azeez has to run laps around the stadium on Tuesday, the last thing we needed was to give the Bears 15 yards and our MLB ejected for the rest of the game. Yes, the hit you put on the QB was legal, but you still smacked the rookie QB and ended up in the opposing teams line... They weren't going to pat you on the head, and say 'Good Tackle!'.

During the game I posted that the Texans showed very little discipline throughout the game and that the NFL would later in the week direct a hefty fine to Al-Shaair.............and I wouldn't rule out a suspension. Demeco should also hit him with a separate team punishment..................his action or inaction will tell us a lot about Demeco.

Striking a player that wasn't even really involved makes his response quite lame.

Not really all that lame to me. I agree he should have handled himself better. He was aggressive all game long with the Bears.

But

To that hit… He was all alone in enemy territory with them all surrounding him. He was flailing in the ruckus and apparently hit a guy who wasn’t “involved”.

Kinda like how war works. We don’t check to see who’s shooting first. We FIRE towards enemy lines.

Completely agree with the thought.

But... to me, it doesn't make sense during the game. Can you imagine the coaches & players acting like we do during the game?

I know we're not coaches & we're not players & we don't & shouldn't act like coaches & players during the game. But... that's me.

I could understand if we've been going through this for years... ala Bill O'Brien. But this is the DeMeco bus, we should all be on board & just a few weeks ago we're so excited about what could be this season.

Just doesn't feel like that's what we believe in the gameday thread as the game is going on.

After the game... sure, why not. We've got a week to talk about the game. But during the game I'm all in, 100% behind these guys & I'm supporting them no matter. Things that don't go well, I let it go quick & focus on the next play.

I try to anyway.
Yeah, some either dont know what they're looking at, or for some reason dont seem to realize other teams players get paid too.

I've got no issues with how Ryans wants his teams to play. Intense/swarming to the point of once a game or so going over the line. It sure beats what we saw under Culley/Lovie/BOB on the defensive side of the ball.

I was at the game and the Akers fumble was on the other end of the field and I did not see a good replay. What happened?

Yeah I’m like you on this one. Why punish him if the NFL might do so. What kind of provocation did he face on the sideline anyway? Earlier Collins had a finger provocatively stabbed right through his face mask. I guess DMR needs to punish Collins too for retaliating? I’d be more proud of DMR if he would convince NC to take that on field crap up with the NFL.

Yep, Al-Shaair legally knocked Williams out of bounds. Bears standing in that area were upset thinking it was a late hit. They mailed off and in the mob there could have been some shows or blows. I would have preferred the middle linebacker had not struck the other player but I am not blaming him. He did not seem to have a clear path to leave that area.

the refs definitely saw Collins punch that DB but a flag wasn’t thrown either. What does this mean?
The defensive back, I think Jalen Johnson, poked Collins between the eyes hitting his face mask. There was a penalty on the play I am talking about but maybe a different one than you are.

Was at a friend's wedding in Montreal over the weekend (fantastic time) and didn't manage to watch the game until around midnight last night.

Great win and overall the team played well and played poorly simultaneously. Almost all of what the Bears did well was because of their defense which is legitimately good and because of an absolute ton of self inflicted wounds from us in almost every facet of the game. That needs to get cleaned up ASAP, it's early so I'm patient with it and we're picking up the Ws which is also key.

Bring on the Vikings.

And I haven't read through the thread, but I'm hoping Kaimi got his flowers. People take these 50 yarders for granted now a days, but that dude basically won us the game yesterday. Having a guy that can hit those reliably genuinely warps the game. Love that dude.

Even last year I was sad when everyone gave the credit to Keenum for beating the Titans when in my opinion it was Singletary and Kaimi that beat the Titans on the day.

The team the past two weeks has shown signs of undisciplined football. The corners are struggling to cover and communicate. Stroud has happy feet and at times is inaccurate. The OL making stupid false start penalties. They need to clean up their act before we play better teams.

All in all, happy they are 2-0. Good teams find ways to win tough games even against inferior opponents, and they have done just that. Vikings will be tough this week.

Are you of the opinion that a good team will win every game by 3 TDs and never have any issues at all? Legitimately just curious
No but was hoping to see a bit more fireworks by the offense than a bunch of field goals and only 1 TD the entire game in a very favorable matchup in primetime. But good teams find a way to win even when not playing their best. And I do think we are a good team. Time will tell if we are a great team.

His punch was not seen by the refs and neither were the punches by bears against him. Call it even as it was. He also made a legal move against Williams.
He punched a player that was not in the game OR involved in anything. It does not compare. That sort of reckless behavior will cost you against KC.

The Bears D is no joke. The game plan felt to me like there were lots of long developing pass plays. Just seemed like that to me

The Pass Pro HAS to get better. Gonna get CJ hurt. Last nights first down yardage was garbage. It even over 2 yards a play I don’t think. Bobby and the o gotta be better than that
It was said after the first game that the offensive line blocked very well for run and we saw the results in Mixon's stats. What happened to that blocking?

Yeah, you know that because you saw the camera view. He was in the action and surrounded by the enemy. He said he was being hit and I'm going to take him at his word. If we had played worth a damn, it would not have mattered if we had gotten a penalty which we didn't.

IMO, the undisciplined play is due to lack of play in preseason games. Practice reps aren't the same as game reps, even preseason ones, unless you have NFL refs calling every 11 on 11 practice rep. The pre-snap penalties infuriate me. Unforced errors are a sure-fire way to hamstring your team. The Texans OL have exactly 1 game of all 5 playing together.
A win is a win in the NFL. This ain't NCAA with style points. Parity is a real thing. I'm not so sure that the Colts are

Game planning. The Bears were determined to take the run away and force the Texans to pass. That's why the Texans are dangerous. They can do either. It's been 2 weeks and the Texans have won ugly in both contests. By week 4 all of the rust should be shaken off, dependent on injuries.

I have no issues with Nico Collins or Azeez Al-Shaair retaliating the way they did during the game. Sure....future incidents like these could hurt the team in the long run. BUT, the fact these two didn't take no shiizz will also assure these things don't happen in the future. I don't know what cause Shaair to punch that guy on the sidelines, but rest assured it was called for, the cameras just didn't catch it the way it caught Collins being poked thru the face mask. These Bears players were trying to be something, and our boys where up to the challenge. These Texans are not going to be anyones pushover.

So every time he is on the opposite sideline he is going to throw a punch just because he is surrounded by the other team? Btw, this is not his first time doing this.

Punching a player who is not in the game or involved in anything is undisciplined thug behavior that will become exploited by elite teams. And undisciplined teams don’t win championships.

I am hoping they WD-40 and get the rust off by this Sunday.

You evidently don't read very well. He was just not on the sideline. I said that he was hit by others and lashed out to protect himself. Why are you ignoring that?
Edited
He wasn’t hit by the player he punched. There’s no justification for that. None. If that’s the sh*t you want to justify, don’t be surprised when the other team tries to target Stroud. Keep defending that, because it will lead to bonehead penalties if Demeco does nothing about it. Yes, these will cost you in important games.

You cannot compare.. well I guess you just did... what happened to Al-Shaair and then someone targeting Stroud. You're just like a ball in a pinball game. All over the place.
