Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

Suprised we are going with 2 QB's. I thought they'd keep Tim Boyle. Someone mentioned there've been several QB cuts that might be available. Any thoughts on the best for a 3rd QB...just in case?
I would like to see a younger QB as the third option on the PS. IMO, Bailey Zappe (from Victoria, TX) would be a great addition but I'm sure he won't be on the market very long.

Heck may still get placed on IR.
With as much problems that his recurrent plantar fasciitis has created, I don't know that they would feel comfortable that this will not go on to be a chronic ongoing issue.................making Heck a player that cannot be counted on.

It is not unusual for treatment/rehab of an episode of plantar fasciitis to require months. As an OT, Heck will not be able to avoid stress on the plantar fascia which will occur every time he pushes off.............and especially against resistance................something that will certainly encourage re-injury.

Coaching is a huge time sink…but it’s just in some guys blood ala DeMeco. I feel like Case is going to quickly transition to coaching and I hope it’s here. Get him in the pipeline now for OC. Bobby then Jarrod Johnson then Case Keenum.
i think that it’s possible that Jerrod Johnson is a CJ induced requirement for the Texans to hire. -Keenum- is who the Texans want in his ear and this is their way of doing that.

so just watched "highlights" of xavier johnson (the new addition from ohio)...wouldnt call them hightlights...seems to be an ok returner..has sure hands but not blazing speed..hard runner. Used as Rb at times...has good vision and runs hard but again not speedy and nothing really special there either...wonder what they brought him in for?

I haven’t seen any of our cuts showing up on other teams other than Mike Ford to the Browns

think hes cj college teammate who introduced him to church. Probably a practice squad player

Considering Tim Settle's calf issue and unless we bring in another DT I would not be surprised to see us elevate Marcus Harris to play week 1

Also: Byron Murphy was just cut by the Raiders (no not the Rams one) who might be someone we look at. Played beside Will Anderson a lot at Bama. Siaki Ika is still out there after being cut by Cleveland as well. So there's some options out there if we like them.

I’d say a big reason they only have 8 DL on the active roster was the likelihood they thought they could get their young DL on PS for this purpose. Got Byrd, Fisher and Harris to play with for 3 game day elevations if needed.

Elaborate if you don’t mind. When did you learn it was torn, and why would it not be a season ender?
He's been dealing with this injury since 7/18 ................already ~6 weeks. They never felt that he would be missing the season opener. They are now "hoping" that he can return by week 5 of the regular season., and stay on the field. As I've posted previously, if and when he returns, he will be a significant risk for to re-injure or suffer a compensatory injury. Calf tears can be even more onerous than hamstring tears.

On Jul 20, 2024, Aaron Wilson wrote Harris is currently not practicing as he recovers from a soft-tissue leg injury that isn't regarded as long-term.

Just for a point of reference, how many weeks did Juice Scruggs miss last year past the 4 week IR?

I'm not sure that there is a true reference...............they were 2 different injuries. Scruggs went down with a hamstring injury during the Texans' preseason finale against the New Orleans Saints on Aug. 27. He returned Nov. 26 (~3 months).

LZ’s draft profile on Xavier Johnson:

It sounds like Frank Ross is having a lot of say on PS signings. Zeke Turner is a ST ace that has stuck around in the league so far in that role, D’angelo Ross gunner who played 72% of his snaps on ST for Texans last season, and Xavier Johnson also profiles as a core ST player.

After the emergence of British Brooks I don’t care about college production as much for these UDFA fliers. If the scouts see something that projects to help the team, then get them over here and see what happens. The risk/reward is just too good!

Many here do not understand why Noah Brown was released.

The main reason Brown was released by the Texans was significant ongoing issues with his surgically repaired shoulder. Brown had offseason labrum surgery to repair a torn labrum and then missed time in TC with another shoulder injury.

oooffff...man he was good when healthy, but damn that guy cant seem to stay healthy

Funny how the NF/Goodell manipulates their policies to fit their "wants."

There is absolutely nothing in their policy to place a player on the Commissioner Exempt list that limits its application to only a domestic violence case.

Both should be removed from the field in regular season. Both are being allowed to practice now.

The language of the Personal Conduct Policy authorizes placement of a player on the Commissioner Exempt list “when a player is formally charged with: (1) a felony offense; or (2) a crime of violence, meaning that he is accused of having used physical force . . . to injure or threaten a person.”

NFL: Rashee Rice will not be placed on paid leave barring “a material change in the case”
By Mike Florio
Published August 29, 2024 12:21 PM

In seven days, the Chiefs host the Ravens to start the 2024 regular season. Kansas City receiver Rashee Rice most likely will be playing.

Rice faces eight felony charges arising from a March street-racing incident in Dallas.

On a media conference call to preview the upcoming season, the NFL reiterated it is monitoring Rice’s case. “Following the conclusion of the legal process, the NFL will review the matter under the Personal Conduct Policy,” the league told PFT via email on August 13.

The league had not yet commented directly on whether Rice will be placed on paid leave. For felony cases, it’s an available option. However, the league typically only uses it in cases involving domestic violence.

In response to the specific question of whether Rice will be placed on paid leave between now and Week 1, the NFL initially did not provide a clear answer. Later, the league said it does not anticipate placing Rice on the Commissioner Exempt list, “unless there’s a material change in the case.”

Given that very little seems to be happening in the case, a material change is unlikely within the next week. Which means that Rice will be available to play week after week, unless and until a material change happens — or until the case is resolved and the league conducts a review under the Personal Conduct Policy.

they gotta do all they can to help out the chefs and their new golden goose mahomes and their swifty following...

The Texans have added the following to the Practice Squad:
Braeden Daniels T/G
Cole Fotheringham TE
Xavier Johnson WR/RB
Mark Perry S
Kedon Slovis QB
Braedon Daniels and Mark Perry are intriguing adds.

Daniels is a fairly athletic o-line prospect who was taken in the 4th round by the Commanders last season. Developmental type prospect not sure if they like him as a T or G but they listed him at T on the website.

Mark Perry was a UDFA safety who signed with the Dolphins this offseason and got a lot of looks in preseason games at S and on special teams. We allegedly fought off several teams (Steelers, Jaguars, Patriots, and Jets) to add him to our practice squad. Fun fact is he played high school football with CJ Stroud at Rancho Cucamonga High School,

The Texans did a lot of work on him in the predraft process. Multiple meetings per the prospect tracker in the college football forum. He must have been a high value UDFA target during the draft.

I had us taking Mark Perry in the 6th/7th round in several of my mock drafts. I liked him as a depth safety and core ST player. I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that he came here because of CJ and his growing up in RC with him. I think he has a shot - given patience by the staff. Assuming no major long-term injuries (knock on wood), he's probably a next year guy as opposed to this year. Let him get some reps on scout team and improve his game, but he's got a shot to stick as that final safety in 25.

It is interesting that he chose to go to Miami first and has now decided to come to us.

Could have been a $ thing though as I believe Miami gave him a solid chunk of change to go there.
