Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

Small surprise I'd say but Jamal Hill has made the 53 man roster. Good job young man!
Very surprised. Thought he'd be a PS guy for sure considering it still looks like he's got quite a bit of development left to go with the new position. Thought someone like Tooley, Harris, or Lonnie Johnson might get the spot instead.

That said we're still a few days away from the proper 53 so a few things can happen between now and then.

They placed linebacker Christian Harris and defensive tackle Kurt Hinish on injured reserve/designated to return. The players will miss four games before becoming eligible to return.

So Case got injured I did not know that. It seemed like he was just playing last game. Guess I missed it. So that leaves CJ and Mills is that it?

I would expect a trade for a LB.
I honestly wouldn't. LB is thin league wide and we only ever use 2 most of the time anyway.

I think the team really likes the improvements from To'o To'o and Hansen so we'll have to see how that goes.

Hewitt has really impressed me from the proverbial “bar” I had set for him in my mind. I think he’s going to be a solid player for us (Cashman 2.0 if we are lucky.) And if there is one position that Demeco gets the benefit of the doubt from me every single year until proven otherwise it is linebacker. I don’t think he’s ever had a subpar LB unit since he’s been a coach.

I'd pump the brakes on that one. Cashman was always a good coverage player even back to college but constantly had issues with injuries.

Hewitt is a great thumper but has never been good in coverage.

I don’t think he will necessarily be in on passing downs ala Harris. But I think Al-Shaair is going to get more coverage responsibility than he would usually in passing downs with Harris gone. But if he can hold down the fort and give us half of the year he had with the Jets when he was nearly or was their leading tackler, it will allow us to get the coverage guys in the game on second and third and long. I think people are underselling Al-Shaair in coverage personally, but we will have to wait for Demeco’s deployment of them. I do think he can give us a lot more than just special teams juggernaut.

This list must have hurt DeMeco a lot.

They pretty much all have coverage responsibility, especially with how much zone they like to play.

It was my main issue with To'o To'o last season. Whenever he was out their the opposing team would start to target him heavily. I'm really hoping he's made some improvements in that area and with Demeco coaching I have some belief he has.

Looks like it frees up a spot to carry 7 WRs …. for now.
My guess is they are still debating/receiving trade offers for some of the WRs: Metchie, maybe RWoods, and they are deciding what deal to do... or, they are waiting for the market to clear for a couple days and then offer them up to teams in need. I also think they are doing the same thing with the RBs... One way or another, I will be shocked if we actually play week one with 7 WRs and 5 RBs.

Texans releasing Nick Bowden, clearing the way for British Brooks who has made the 53 man roster! Whoo hoo!

I might have been wrong about Quitoriano making the roster.

& Beck...

& Hairston.

Suprised we are going with 2 QB's. I thought they'd keep Tim Boyle. Someone mentioned there've been several QB cuts that might be available. Any thoughts on the best for a 3rd QB...just in case?

Remember anyone going to IR (Brandon Hill) or who might go to IR or PUP. Christian Harris is a candidate for ST IR for example. Those folks won't count against the roster.

I'd also expect some churn on the roster's back end over the next few days. So, what's final today probably will not be truly final until this weekend (give or take).
Or even after week one, then contracts aren't guaranteed.

Hairston was a wild call considering how awful he played. Not even just the penalties, he was frequently blocking wrong players, whiffing, or even executing the wrong type of block.
