NFL Random Thought of the Day

It would seem that the NFLPA would welcome this change.

53-man roster after NFLPA vetoes rule change
By Josh Alper

NFL owners approved a change to the emergency quarterback rule in March that would allow teams to call up a player from the practice squad an unlimited number of times to be on the inactive list as a third quarterback on game days, but that change will not be in effect this season.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, the league sent a memo to teams informing them that the NFLPA vetoed the change. The veto means that any quarterback designated for the emergency role must already be on the 53-man roster. That is the same way the rule worked when it was adopted for the 2023 season.

The union likely saw the change as offering teams a way to stash a 54th member of the active roster on the practice squad.

Quarterbacks can still be elevated for games, but would still be subject to three elevations before they would have to be waived or released and they would have to be active for the game rather than in the emergency role.

The change could have some impact on decisions teams make about keeping third quarterbacks through Tuesday’s roster cuts.

Do we really think Dak is getting a contract? He's saying all the right things, but I think he wants out in the worst way.

"And we want to welcome the New York Giants' new starting QB, Dak Prescott!"
I think Jerry would rather pay Dak than draft a QB early. Pretty they havnt drafted a QB in round 1 since Aikman. And Quincy Carter was the last one drafted in the 2nd.

The NFLPA is terrible at representing the players.

The 3rd QB rule would give the 3rd QB a gameday check he wouldn't otherwise get.

He'll get tagged otherwise.

Would be insane of the Cowboys to just let him walk.

Still not sure how Jerry manages to pay Micah and Dak after this

I bet in his head Jerry thinks he has a 2nd overall pick at QB that he “stole” from SF. I think he’ll let Dak walk.
Jerrah Jones is losing his mind. Dak is gone after paying CD that kind of money.
I love it. Cowboys will be bottom of the NFC after Dak walks. Offense has zero talent other than CD, who the hell scares you on that team on offense?
Defense is solid

The only person that matters is Jerry.
This! I think Jerry sees he is in very good position if Dak does well in 2024. Dallas looks great and he lets Dak And knows he can probably get a top 15 quarterback that would meet fans approval like Jalen Milroe of Alabama or Quinn Ewers of University of Texas .

And those two will be better than what Dak has been for them?

My prediction: Shedeur Sanders is the Cowboys starting QB in 2025.

They will be picking middle of the pack. He won’t get anyone near what he wants and they have zero draft capital to move up, I don’t think.
Scenario:
Jerry trades down and gets a high round 2 + picks then selects RB Jeanty and A&M QB Weigman who continues from his small sampling to having a good year.

You really think that has anything to do with Jones' Maneuvers or opinion?
Nope but drafting a QB is a total crap shoot…. We all know that. Dak is a proven commodity, until the playoffs but that’s not all his fault. That entire team gets to the playoffs and just thinks it’s gonna win because everyone picks/expects them to.
