2024 Free Agency

I confess to getting a little nervous about the RB position...However, signing top $ free agents are not the way to build a championship squad. Remember, also, unused cap space gets rolled forward. There are so many variables during free agency. For instance, the Texans are likely looking at 2025 draft pick compensation... Based on what has happened just today (before considering who the texans have signed), the loss of Greenard will become a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick. Cashman = 5th, Johnston =6th or 7th, Singletary = 5th probably. Players who were cut and become free agents don't count towards the compensation algorithm. So, also pay attention to which free agents the texans sign who were cut by previous team.
I'm starving..
Don't tell me how much I can eat next year.

I would rather sign Swift or Pollard and Dillon for 10 mil and put the other 5 mil saved by not bringing back Motor towards bringing back Cashman.
Del
If that's each of those 2 seasons, I want him. Heck, I want him and Barkley.
I’ve seen a couple of national media say that he’s very underrated and really like the pairing of Autry and DeMeco.
Not till next year, and it'll depend on who they bring in
I've always heard special teams wins championships.

For instance, we can sign Aaron Jones RB, and Tyrone Smith OT without either of them affecting potential draft compensation for any of those guys.

Robert Hunt, an offensive lineman (guard) just got a 5 yr 100 m (60 m guranteed) contract
from the Panthers so they are obviously very concerned about keeping Bryce Young upright.
Anyway that's a huge payday for an interior Olineman !

I’m liking the idea of Autry being a good guy to have rotating with Dylan Horton across from Will Anderson Jr. WAj should take another step in year 2, or at least be able to show what he was towards the end of the season (even with extremely limited snaps due to injury) for a full season (bit of a steady start to the year while he found his feet, stats wise at least!).

Horton was beginning to earn snaps before leaving the team, hopefully whatever he had going on is improved going into the offseason and he can be a good player.

I’d still like to see a vet ILB and a quality Safety brought in, this would leave us pretty well covered by vets going into the draft, where great teams are really built.

I just say that Dylan Horton had cancer and is now in remission. (Hodgkins Lymphoma)

I am unsure if Horton's lymphatic cancer will allow him to play much this season. I expect him to miss the season as John Metchie did when diagnosed with his leukemia.

He is in remission... I wonder how much treatment he still has in front of him... I would think that if his treatment has ended, or is nearing the end, he would have a good chance to recover from it and prepare for the season based on the relatively short duration and milder affects of treatment for Hodgkins Lymphoma, but I am not a doctor.

Yeah I gotta say I expected Texans to have done something by now. If not sign one of the top free agents then at least finish locking up our free agents but with many of the F/A off the market and Greenard gone to I'm not sure what the plan is here. If all goes well we will be picking late in the first round next year as well so we are gonna have to plug some holes in free agency yet right now it seems we are just seeing if we can be number 1 on cap space.

I sure wish they would have kept at least one of the two linebackers they lost today. So far that's the only thing that has bothered me about today. They started the day somewhat promising from a front 7, mainly needing help on the line. Now the front 7 is looking weak, with the LB group being one of the weakest links on the team.

Now they have to not only find weapons for CJ but fill gaps on the defense. Gonna be hard to get all that accomplished in the draft. I need to see what free agency looks like at the end of the day on Wednesday before I start to worry.

Cashman, Greenard, Singletary, Johnston all gone. Pickups so far, Lonnie Johnson, 34 year old Denico Autry and Jeff Okudah.
Free agency isn't over. May not even be halftime. But here's a summary of where the Texans would be regarding comp picks.
Lost (4)
Greenard ($18 mil AAV) 4th round
Cashman ($8.3 mil) 6th round
Singletary ($5.5 mil) 7th round
Johnston ($2.7 mil) Non-Qualified

Gained (3)
Autry ($10 mil) 5th Round
Okudah ($4.75 mil) 7th round
Johnson ($2.5 mil) Non-Qualified

Greenard and Autry will cancel out. Singletary and Okudah will cancel out. The Texans would receive a 6th round comp pick for Cashman as it stands.

People are always too quick to want to move in free agency.
If you want to actually sign players, you have to be pretty quick.
Not really surprised..even though this team is at a different spot, this is how Nick C has operated. He also said a couple of times that you don't have to spend the money this year.
Don't have to win a Super Bowl this year, either.
If so, your disappointment is on you
I guess it's my fault Nick came in 2nd on so many free agents.
I'm willing to give this guy a chance. He was a stud coming out of college. Was injured 3 times in his first 2 years. Had a decent 3rd season coming off an Achilles injury. Last year in Atlanta, Okudah was meh. But a physical Cb with good size makes sense in Ryans defense. Worth a shot to see if the Texans can get more out of Okudah.

It'll be interesting to see how RB and LB are addressed and if WR is addressed at all.

The D-line right now is WAJ, Autry, Foley F., Collins, K. Davis, Hinish, Horton, and M. Sanders. I'm not sure if they'll be adding more to it. I'm hoping for at least a Barnett resigning.

Yup! I think the team knows too that that was the real downfall.

We can always use stars and I hope that happens too whether via FA, trade or draft. Hurt to lose a few guys we had.

Really happy we got Al-Shaair. Dude should be really good for us.
I think he'll fit in well, but I'm a little confused why he's getting paid more than what Cashman was asking for.

this is an epic fail day for the Texans. They are getting worked over like an aging Mike Tyson will soon.

There best moves are Gene Autry’s grandfather, who is riding in on a covered wagon from the east…and a guy who isn’t as good as Blake but they are paying him more.

What in the hell are they doing over on Kirby? Today is an absolute disaster.

There were plenty of high-profile agreements Monday, but what’s an under-the-radar move that you really like so far in free agency?

Mike Sando:
Beyond the Gus Edwards deal mentioned above, Houston adding defensive end Denico Autry reportedly for $10 million over two years caught my attention. Autry is 33 years old but remains a productive player. He ranks 15th in sacks over the past three seasons (28 1/2). By staying in the AFC South, he’ll face two of his former teams, Indianapolis and Tennessee, a total of four games per season.

I don't care how old he is, if it's a real fight Iron Mike will knock Paul out and there will be much rejoicing.

Oh don't forget we also resigned Lonnie Johnson Jr. so yeah....that happened.

Nah. At this rate Houston is going to be the first team to play all downs with an empty backfield

I'm a little anxious about it too. However, our RBs situation is the same now as it was one year ago... we still have the entire off-season (free agency and the draft) with fewer needs and more financial resources than we did then. It is clear they have a plan- people may not love some of these signings but these are defensive players that Demeco clearly wanted targeted. Based on what I have seen, that is great news.

It is possible that they believe they have enough targets for CJ stroud. That would open up the draft a bit.

Cancer has increased massively in recent years, gone from something like 1 in 20 people who get it to 1 in 3.(!)

Has the rate increased in young male athletes who attended college? I am not suggesting anything other than it is weird that we have had three of those in the past few years.
