Nick Caserio - New GM

As long as the ol coach stays I will be happy.

I could see McDaniels leaving with Slowik.

I'm not sure Slowik leaves this year. Most of the attractive landing spot have been filled. NE promoted from within like they do, Dallas is showing us the definition of insanity like they do, Carolina is a dumpster fire that I don't think is going to attract any of the hot up and coming coaches like Slowik. signs point to BB going to Falcons. So you've got left Commanders, Seahawks, Raiders, Chargers and Titans. Of those I don't see him wanting to coach in the same division as DeMeco and CJ so Titans are most likely out. Commanders might be a good landing spot with number 2 over all but they have a new owner that no one knows if they will be hands on or just there to sign the checks. Chargers have some upside but they are kind of in limbo plus you share a market with the Rams and finally Raiders have a good market and a decent team but they've not been able to get over the hump and don't have the pieces or draft capital to do so next year.

No I think Caserio and the Texans will throw a nice bonus Slowik's way, getting bigger the deeper we go, and tell him to pick what players he wants and they will work to bring them here.

I think since the Texans were one of the lousy teams in 2022, they were able to get first dibs on players passing through the waiver wire this year. They will lose that advantage next year so things will have to be built from FA and the draft. And that's fine. The nucleus is pretty good. A handful of players could make the difference and then they can work on depth.

The Texans will be drafting in the mid to high 20s position for a long while to come. Might as well get used to it.

Redskins and Chargers are very attractive jobs. Redskins also have the second most cap space.

We (team and front office) were looked at as a dumpster fire after the 2022 season and DeMeco chose Houston along with his staff. Everyone sees things different...opportunity may play a bigger part in those decisions than we think.

there was a personal connection there though with DeMeco and the Texans. The Panthers are a dumpster fire for different reasons and that's their owner continuing to make dumb decisions. Hell Carolina even had a state of the art new team HQ/practice facility under construction in the Charlotte suburb of Rock Hill, SC a couple years ago, and due to Tepper's ineptitude/fighting with county politicians, they had to tear it down mid-construction about 7 months ago. I've never seen that before.

Imagine if sometime in 2021 or 2022 the Texans had a state of the art $1BN practice facility under construction in Sugar Land that has to get torn down months later because the McNairs had beef with Fort Bend County. Couple this with the coaching carousel, telling the coach you hired that they can't draft Stroud because your wife liked Young better, trading away their best players (CMC, DJ) and getting basically nothing in return, using what they did get in those trades to get fleeced by the Bears, creating weird dynamics where players complain to the owner about coaches, etc. Carolina has the worst owner in the NFL by far at this point.

If it isn't the Chargers, Seattle, or DC jobs then I don't see Slowik leaving yet. And tbh he doesn't strike me as a head coach kind of person but that's just me looking from afar. Some people make for really great coordinators that wouldn't be good HCs. You see that in every industry. Great workers but **** managers (and vice versa!).

There is a difference between being a bad team because you don't have the right players/coach and being a bad team because there are organization issues. When BoB and Rick Smith were fighting and then when BoB was GM and HC we were bad because of organization. After 2022 we only looked like a dumpster fire because of talent and coaching. After firing a well respected veteran HC after only 11 games into his first season Carolina is going to have a hard time getting any up and coming future HC.

I think it amazing(hilarious) that people seem so positive that Slowick is going to get a job offer at any place he chooses.
2 1/2 months ago people were still complaining about his playcalling.
4 months ago people were worried he could call a game plan

Agreed. People in this forum were bitching and moaning about him as recently as a a few weeks ago. Has he been perfect? Of course not. Who is? Name me the OC that calls a perfect game every week.

I think it’s more so the national attention that keeps popping Slowik’s name up as a candidate. They’re always talking about it on tv these days so there has to be more merit to this being just a typical interview. As a result Slowik going elsewhere is a very real possibility.

Me? I think he can go elsewhere if he likes. Ultimately, Stroud is what makes this offense click, not Slowik.

I think Falcons, Commanders and Chargers have a level of attraction to them. Seahawks as well to a point.

People say Titans but I think that's more going to be them wanting Slowik rather than Slowik wanting them. I think he'd be crazy to take that job imo.

Overall though I think it's in his best interest to stay another year. It's better for us for sure, but I think considering he's still only a rookie OC some more experience will help plus there's the fact that he probably still needs more networking to actually fill out a coaching staff with guys he knows and can trust.

Is it an overreaction to expect Nick to blow our entire draft wad on OL personnel and maybe a power back?
Yes it is.

They really have got to add some weapons for Stroud to work with.

Adding a wr to go with Collins and Dell and a RB like Benson and Allen will give this offense the juice they're missing. If Howard is who he's paid to be and Green , Patterson comeback healthy this offense will be dynamic. However if it looks like Howard isn't going to be healthy add RT to the list of needs. 3 points for this offense tells us where Caserio's focus should be this off-season. I'm pretty confident that Caserio will find the answers.

We have a huge window of opportunity right now while CJ is still on his rookie contract. We should be aggressive in going after FAs who can improve this team, and just make sure to time the contacts to end when CJ needs to get paid.

It should be a very different strategy in FA this offseason in comparison to years past. Exciting times ahead!

I wanted a WR but the more I've thought about it the more I'm thinking Oline. Offensively free agents are going to want to have CJ as their QB because he makes them look great and their are actually some interesting choice even in our division. Derrick Henry showed he can still ball and I don't think Jags will resign Ridley because then they would have to give up a 2nd and they didn't have a good enough season to justify that. Even Barkley is becoming a FA and after getting tagged and then the horrible year Giants had I doubt he wants to stay there.

On the other hand there are some amazing defensive players coming up and some of these teams will be hard pressed to resign them. We've got the money, our QB on a rookie contract, a HC everyone loves and no state income tax. Now is the time to spend big and I hope Caserio has got the checkbook out and is ready to start putting numbers down.

We have a huge window of opportunity with CJ - period!
Every season while he is on this roster must be treated like an opportunity to make the playoffs and the SB.
Continually building around him is the prime objective - the previous paragraph should then take care of itself!

If Jordan Morgan falls to 1-23 it's gonna be hard not to pick him even if Howard's healthy.

In FA I am looking at value. Sure we can throw more money at the OL, it hasn’t worked yet but maybe it’ll work next year. Whether due to injury or who they hitched their bank trucks to (Tunsil, Mason, Howard) it is not a dominant OL.

But what we can do is bring in a difference maker at RB. Someone who can create in spite of the OL. If this offense is intent on running the ball no matter the production then get the best RB you can. I am targeting Derrick Henry. 1-2 year deal and sell him on the idea he can win a ring on a contender in the backend of his career.

He’ll cost less than a top tier OL and have more impact next season. Draft another horse on day 2 to be his apprentice.

There is no player in FA that will make a bigger difference to this team’s win total than Derrick Henry. Except Chris Jones for 2x the price/year. And you add a back like Benson or Irving on day 2 that is the lightning to his thunder you keep Henry fresh for when you need to feed him on a cold, windy day at M&T or Arrowhead in January.

Caserio is looking like the smartest man in the room right now.

This is the look of the smartest man in the room.

Why Brown? I mean he's a good player but we just extended both Howard and Tunsil so where would you play him?
I really trust CloakNNNdagger's medical opinion . He has stated that Titus Howard will not heal enough from his leg injury to play in 2024. I am therefor ruling him out and getting a replacement now. Trent Brown PFF for 2023 regular season was over 80 compared to Fant's 63. Brown has played right tackle very successfully. His weight is a concern but he has been able to maintain it and his most recent contract had penalties in it. He was not penalized. He was also very disappointed when the Patriots told him they would take care of him during the season and failed to do so. Of course it would have to be a Texans friendly contract as with any other free agent we bring on board.

I agree about the waiver but we do not need that advantage going forward as players will want to come here rather than Texans going after them.

Can someone calculate the trade value points now that the picks are settled? I remember some treating the value differently when the trade was made. EX: Some said “Should be rated a 2nd on the trade value chart because it’s a future 1st.”

Others said “The file clerk blew it and should be weighted as a top 10 pick because it’s going to be top 3 next season”
