TEXANS VS RAVENS PLAYOFFS............"NEVERMORE" QUOTH THE TEXANS!

And no turnovers will be huge.

This is huge

There are weaknesses in the Ravens secondary.

We played you last time without Humphrey. And Andrews. And you had Tank Dell. The Ravens have stars all over the secondary and incredible depth. Humphrey has missed 8 games this season, didn't matter. I find it funny that our best defender (in the secondary) hasn't been mentioned one time. That would be Kyle Hamilton, 1st team all Pro 22 yr old. He will go down as one of greatest Ravens defenders of all time, that is how good he is. The Ravens bait QB's into throwing deep playing cover 2, because they know they think they can.....but can't. They are willing to give up some things underneath so they can't be beat over top. Seems to have worked out quite well this season. The Ravens have one of the best secondaries in recent history only allowing 5.1 yds/attempt. I'll let you guess the last time a team was even close to that.

Strouds a much different QB than the rookie QB y'all faced playing in his first NFL game he's a top 5 QB these days.

Many including myself liked Hamilton a lot. I wanted Caserio to pick Jordan Davis but also wanted Hamilton. No doubt he's a great player. If the Texans can slow down LJ and Flowers they will have a good chance of winning. BTW, this is the best Ravens roster since the SB winning teams.

I don’t expect the Texans to win. I would be surprised, but not shocked, if they pull off the upset. I do think football fans and analysts would be shocked though. Nobody would love to see it more than me, and I will be rooting my butt off from the couch.

all I ask is their best effort. That’s it. I will be super proud of this team after this game…win, lose or even blowout loss. They have exceeded all of my expectations for this season, and o matter the outcome Saturday, the future is very bright.

Go Texans!!:fans::gotexans1:texflag:

Sorry, but I have to pump the breaks on Demeco's comment. Being out there in 20-30 degree weather for a couple of hours through 2 days does not prepare a player for playing in that weather.............especially since all of our players (except for Deiter who was coming off of "illness") on the Injury Report either did not participate or had limited participation in practices which were very close to walk-through practices.......That goes for those not even on the Injury Report.

With all-out push by players, especially when not acclimated to strange conditions, you can expect muscle dysfunction/contractions/spasms/tears. Muscles will be significantly affected by the cold no matter the attempts to keep them warm.

Quarterbacks find it very difficult to grip the ball in severely cold conditions. Their hands and fingers become numb and tight. Moreover, they have less flexibility in the finger muscles. All this impacts the quarterback's grip, passing ability and ball security. Quarterbacks generate spin and velocity on the ball with their hands. The freezing weather makes that much more difficult.

But the biggest issue for all players in extreme conditions is how they deal with hits and injuries. Stingers and big hits can cause players to suffer contusions. And it takes players longer to recover or gather their breath after getting winded or taking a bone-jarring hit.

Muscle aches and pains take longer to settle.

This article regarding how freezing temps can affect so many aspects of the game, especially when players are not used to dealing with them.>>>>>

Baby, it's cold outside: How cold temps affect NFL games

Mark Andrews will probably try to play for the first time since sustaining a high ankle sprain/distal fibula fracture. If he does play, he'll be a little slower, but even so, it's his hands you worry about. The Ravens also have TEs that filled in nicely in his absence.

Been following Houston ( Oilers / Texans ) for 39 years now.
I missed out on the Luv Ya Blue era, so this is for me one of the biggest games ever as a fan.
Ravens are very good, but we have enough to have a chance. This Houston team has got me dreaming again, 2 wins from our first ever SB.

The last time I felt this optimistic / nervous was before our last Playoff game against the Ravens, under Kubiac.

This time...

Week 1 was also the first week of Jackson running a completely brand-new offense under Monken. Just as it was for Stroud. I think both quarterbacks have vastly improved since the opening game of the season.

True but we are also ignoring the elephant in the room which is his playoff track record. Every talk show is talking about it. No way he isn’t hearing about it or it’s in his head right now.

We're severely overrated. We'll lose by at least 17.

Oh no you dont sir!

We will be so outclassed all of Texandom will be crying at such a level that it will make "Giants fan" guy look like the most manly non wuss to ever lived.

We will be so dominated that even the French will marvel at our ability to retreat.

We will be losers of loserdom and shall be at such a skill gap disadvantage that it will not be capable of precise measurement and shall simply be labeled with a negative bar in front of the infinity sign.

The Texans are not worthy to be on the same field as the glorious Ravens.

Currently this is the battered and bruised list, with article. We are really going to need Anderson, Harris and Cashman. And every DB for this one. If Jackson runs past our front 7 at any time we need starting DBs ready. The ones with the speed to catch him. JP at his safety spot is a huge key. He needs a great game IMO. Possible QB spy over as much cover a WR or TE, again IMO. The Ravens saved Jackson for the playoffs and that's when he is going to start running more I think

Awesome man wonderful. Thought we were through this injury bullshit

Being that he's practiced & played in cold weather you'd think he knows that. Maybe that was code for something.

Saturday forecast includes ~15 mph winds...........something that could easily affect the passing game.

If you get these winds over 15 mph sustained or over 20 mph sustained, especially, it has a massive correlation – a negative correlation – to scoring to yards to passing yards to all of these important stats. For the offense, strong winds can lead to shorter, more conservative passes.-----How the weather can impact football games

Wind affects NFL betting more than any other condition. The higher the wind speed, the worse the passing metrics become.-----How Weather Actually Impacts NFL Betting

I think this actually could be a benefit for -us- due to Stroud’s uncanny pinpoint abilities. Sure I expect his numbers to go down but I wouldn’t expect them to go down -as much- as Jackson’s could.

Only one way to find out. Let’s play some football, Texans!

Are you the weird chick from the Eurythmics?

If not then I don't know... but I know she says "Sweet dreams are made of this. Who am I to disagree".

She is wise and has traveled the seven seas. She hath also said "Everybody's looking for something".

She also explains that there are four different types of people: 1) those who wish to use you, 2) those who want to get used by you, 3) those who want to abuse you, and 4) those who want to be abused

You know, that 1st game was pretty evenly matched statistically. Total yards 268 Houston, 265 Ravens, 1st downs 18-18, and 7-6 Ravens at the half. Ravens scored 2 TDs off of failed 4th down attempts and the Texans were 0-2 in the red zone. They held the Ravens to 3.4 YPC and Lamar had just 38 rushing yards. Also sacked 4 times. Lamar was 15-22 for 169 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 79.5 passer rating. CJ, in his 1st professional game ever was 28-44 for 242 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 78.0 passer rating. Ravens didn't have Andrews in that game. The Texans had Pierce as RB1.

I think is a pretty even matchup to tell you the truth. The Texans should have a better run game than the 1st go around, and CJ, of course, has more than caught up to the speed of the NFL game. They've got to convert in the red zone and they've got to keep CJ upright. He was sacked 5 times that 1st game. The Ravens will have Andrews back. How effective he will be, who knows? But Likely filled in nicely for him so the Texans getting these TEs covered will be an issue.

I think this could be a close game that might come down to a game winning FG. I know Tucker is a kicking god but he's missed 5 FGs this year, 4 from 50+. Ka'iminoeauloameka'ikeokekumupa'a is 11-12 from 50+ the last 2 seasons.

Week 1 is irrelevant in predicting this game. The Texans couldn't execute their own schemes at the time. Those first three games were a cluster.

The Texans are still improving, which is what makes them formidable right now. You don't want to play teams that haven't peaked and are still rising.

But the Ravens are a Harbaugh team, which is their strongest feature. If weather messes up the passing game, Baltimore has the advantage through their ground game, be it Jackson's feet or their RB platoon. Also the Texans D cannot stop short yard runs 90% of the time.

On paper this is an even match, so it really comes down to the weather. If it's windy, I don't know what the Texans offense will look like, but neither do opposing defenses.

I think that CJ playing at OSU helps here. He's played in cold, windy conditions and knows how to throw the ball in those conditions.

Post Week 2- Remove CJ's welcome to the NFL games.

CJ Stroud is 8-1 against Winning Teams

The only game they lost, they missed a 54 yard FG to tie with a kicker off the street.

Kaimi Fairbairn is hitting 91% from 50+ this year.

Texans had a high probability to take that to overtime with Fairbairn.

I don't get the 9+ spread.

All they have done is played above and beyond good competition this year.

People may call him a rookie, but he may be the best pocket passer in the NFL this year.

This Texans fan is not going to be surprised if CJ pulls it out Saturday.

Jadeveon Clowney: Advancing in playoffs bigger than beating team that drafted me
By Josh Alper
Published January 19, 2024 06:51 AM

Ravens edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney has bounced around the league in recent years, but he spent the first five of his 10 NFL seasons in the same place.

That place was Houston and he joined the Texans as the first overall pick of the 2014 draft. Clowney made three Pro Bowls for the AFC South team before being traded to the Seahawks ahead of the 2019 season and his history with Saturday’s opponent came up during a Thursday press conference.

Clowney said that he’s not deriving any extra motivation from the chance to face his former team this weekend.
“To me, it’s the next game up,” Clowney said, via a transcript from the team. “I just want to win, because it’s the playoffs; it’s bigger than just worrying about the Texans. There is much more at stake. It’s either win or go home. And we want to get away with this win, so we can keep fighting for the goal we’ve been fighting for all year. What you do all of this for is to try to get to that Super Bowl and win it.”

Clowney facing the Texans would have a bit more resonance if Clowney was in his first year or two away from the team, but the Ravens are the fourth team he’s played for since leaving Houston and that makes it much easier to believe that his history with his opponent is an insignificant backstory this weekend.

The TEs concern me. We saw with the Browns the big plays down the seam are available to the TEs. Texans have the CBs to neutralize the WRs but I don’t think we have the horses to neutralize the Ravens TEs. They will get their’s.

The big X factor is their running game. When Taylor ran wild on the Texans Rankins/Collins/Anderson played half the snaps or less and no Greenard contributed to that performance. Have to assume that it will be all hands on deck for Texans and the Ravens don’t have Taylor at RB.

I think the Texans can slow down their run game. Force Jackson to win with his arm. He will get his big plays but if they can win the turnover battle they can win.

Ravens unanimous pick to win on nfl.com

However, I find it interesting that everyone’s score prediction is within 7 points. That is a typical Texans game this season that comes down to the wire. The Ravens have not been playing in these types of hard fought gritty games as much this season. And when they have… they have 4 losses to show for it.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the field conditions will be in the cold. If traction is good, it favors the ground game. If slippery, receivers can more easily juke past coverage. If the Ravens can pound the rock, they will control the clock. Keeping the ball out of Stroud’s hands is paramount.

I think both teams have the ability to put up good numbers in the passing game, but Baltimore is definitely ahead of the game in rushing. If the Texans (or the weather) limit the Ravens rushing attack, it will be a huge factor.

These last few posts in this thread above my post are why I wanted the Ravens instead of the Chiefs or Bills. Both of those other teams have either scary qbs who are better passers than LJ8 who’ve both been there before…or just present serious match up problems for us..not to mention the weather in those places looks to be worse.

Although week 1 is now a long distant memory & both teams have gotten better since that time, I feel like we’ve improved much more than they have. Plus too, There are things we can glean from that 1st game. For 1, it was closer than it appears on the final scoreboard…especially when you consider that we had a QB/HC and OC all making their debuts in the NFL in their current roles. You factor in that our offense & defense were both learning new schemes at the time….…The Ravens really should’ve dominated that game in every aspect there was to. Now Part of why that maybe didn’t happen was b/c they too were learning a new offensive scheme, but I don’t think that was as huge of a deal for them as maybe some of their fans think it was. I mean they still had a veteran star in LJ8 at qb..they still had Harbaugh on the sidelines. They also had veteran leadership all up and down that roster too. Just with that alone they should’ve been able to curbstomp us….and they really didn’t do that. Game was basically tied at the half.

Not saying that we should win over them…they’re the #1 seed…but we all watched our guys over the course of the year. We’ve all seen the notable improvement since that 1st game. I believe that this game is gonna be tougher for them than their fans really realize. And of course the longer we hang in, the more pressure begins to build up on them. If this game isn’t still up for grabs late in the 4th qtr, I’ll be shocked.

What it’s gonna come down to is preventing LJ8 from putting his cape on too much..& how well CJ is protected. They know they don’t stand a chance in hell if they can’t get pressure on him. He took some really bad sacks in that 1st game that in essence killed a lot of drives before they got started. I don’t see that happening this game.

The ravens site collated a ton of analysts predictions. 52 picked the Ravens. 2 favor the Texans.

They should be favored by analysts. Literally everything is in their favor. #1 seed. Home field advantage. Talented Qb. Highly ranked defense. Impressive win. Aside from that, we know that most of those “analysts” probably really just saw the Texans play for the 1st time under Meco/CJ this past Saturday & they don’t have a feel for this team like we do…which is a shame b/c if the Texans do pull off the improbable, a lot of those same analysts will then get all types of air & radio wave time just to gargle CJ’s scrotum and how “impressed” they are with him….And I’ll be like “where u been &@%-er…he’s been balling like this the entire year a-hole”.

And then of course, those same analysts will rinse and repeat their same “analysis” in the AFCCG by favoring the Chiefs/Bills over us.
