Preseason - TEXANS @ New England

I’ve been listening to a lot of different head coaches around the league in preseason and with one exception, Sean Payton, who now I can’t stand, made me realize those who are the successful ones have not only great football minds, they are motivators, teachers and evaluators with elite ability to teach the caliber of men of football in the NFL.

If you have one of them (DeMeco included) the owner doesn’t have to do much, just sit back, write the checks, make positive community philanthropy and enjoy.
I'm glad we didn't hire Sean Payton.. I think he's going to regret his comments on Hackett.

The Hannah effect is just another episode of another person exercising control over Cal McNair's inability to grasp the gravity and understanding of a serious matter. Therefore, Cal is easily manipulated because he is dense and incapable of independent and critical thought, so Cal lets others do his thinking for him. This is a clear pattern of behavior.

You are wrong.

Cal isn't the problem. In fact, quite the opposite.

The problem is the person who overrides him and that's the person who ultimately owns the team. This goes back to at least the Hopkins trade where OB was told get him outa here & both Momma Mcnair & Watson were involved with removing the bad influence .... little did they know ....

For the love of God, can we please stop pretending that the paupers in this board have an inkling of what goes on, behind closed doors, of multi-millionaires and billionaires? We are merely deducing actions after they are done. No one on this MB has inside information from the real powers that be. No one. The best that we get is from low-level personnel that don't have true access to the powers that be.

The problem isn’t Cal or Hannah. You can get your season tickets back. We are just waiting for Janice to totally give up control. (Ok he didn’t say Hannah but still.)

Thank you for making my case.

Who is Janice McNair? She's calling the shots.
Again, thanks for making my point about Cal. Janice knows little about the operations of an NFL franchise. That was Bob's baby. Janice was busy with her charities and Gala Balls. Now if Cal could run the Texans like a Janice McNair Gala Charity Ball, then we might be on to something.

So you like the last 2 decades of the Houston Texans are a marketing team with a football division? Some people never learn. Why even employee football people in the FO? All you need is a coaching staff.
The reason the Texans are not a successful on-the-field football franchise is that they do not know how. Why is that? Mostly ego. They treat the franchise like a toy instead of like a successful business.

Why?

What he said about Hackett was true. Hackett was this generations Ritchie Kotite.
Following a Zoom call with Cal and Nick, what Sean Payton said the next day about the Texans being a dysfunctional franchise with a capital D is also true.

I'm glad we didn't hire Sean Payton.. I think he's going to regret his comments on Hackett.

After the Zoom call, Payton wanted absolutely nothing to do with the Texans. Texans never had a chance.

Since Bob McNair died at the end of 2018, Cal McNair has hired 5 different Head Coaches.

Exactly been saying this.

The janitor at the Texans facility I talk to is legit.

Discretion is the better part of valor. There's a certain level of decorum and coaches generally don't speak ill of each other.

They are competitors yes...but it's also a band of brothers and a fraternity.

In short, know when to keep your mouth shut and show some respect.

I agree with Carr Bombed. I think we dodged a bullet. Payton is an ego who will consume all the oxygen on a team. Ryans will turn out to be the right hire at the right time.

I would put the number closer to 3 or at the most 4 if you count Romeo Crennel when he became interim head coach after Bill O'Brien was fired.

2014 - Bill O'Brien Hired
2018 - Bob McNair passes away
2020 - Romeo Crennel (interim head coach for week 5 - week 16)
2021 - David Culley Hired
2022 - Lovie Smith Hired
2023 - DeMeco Ryans Hired

Honesty is refreshing. IMHO

People ask for HC, GM's to be transparent, then they are transparent and people don't like it. SMH.

This thread is hilarious and the game hasn't even happened yet. What a time to be alive.

Is it fair to say that people are going to believe what they want to believe and people shouldn't get all bent out of shape when people don't agree with them?

A portion of the fan base is always going to look at Cal like a buffoon. Some of the fan base will look at Hannah's involvement as a bad thing because they don't believe that a woman can be a successful leader of a football franchise (or any other male dominated industry) and/or don't believe that a man should have his wife lead him like she does.

The fact of the matter is that gave up my tickets after the 2019 season when I saw that ownership wasn't going to do anything about their blockheaded, buttchinned HC. I know what a loser looks like, I'm born and raised a Houston sports fan. That team and organization had loser written all over it. Based on the abomination of a football team they have put on the field since then, I don't care if Elizabeth Cady Stanton came back from the dead to lead and make crucial ownership divisions as long as they win. My personal feelings have nothing to do with the Texans winning a Super Bowl. I'm not "rooting" for certain people to succeed or fail. I just want that trophy.

The rest of the board can live out their fantasies about palace intrigue, I will be waiting for the results on the field and make my decisions accordingly.

OMG. So now you’re a Bronco fan? Payton is so overrated and washed up all he can do is make **** up & trash his fraternity. Sean has a severe case of God complex and will get what’s coming to him.
I'm not a Broncos fan and my point stands.

It's not if what he said was true or not, it was a scumbag move to go after another coach like that.. completely unprofessional, I don't want someone like that coaching my team.
So you dont want transperency from your HC.

Some say HC's do wordspeak and dont say anything and they dont like that. Seems like a HC is damned if they do and damned if they dont. Personally I like coaches that answer questions truthfully even if they throw another HC under the bus.

I didn't care for the way Payton threw Hackett under the bus. It's all in the wording. To be fair though, Payton threw the Denver Bronco's FO under the bus at the same time.

Yeah I love the “insider” bs. First who would risk a job leaking info only a very few would know. This isn’t the Federal Government. If they did it would come with a real big: AND DON’T TELL ANYONE! So if it’s reported here anyway that should say a lot about the poster who is “spilling the beans”, SMDH.

I do think it’s possible to have inside info. I appreciate those that do and share information on the board.

But with all things on the internet - people misconstrue information and use it to affirm their own beliefs.

Of course it’s possible. This is Amerika. I just guess it’s not in my psychology to get into that chickenshit.

you're never locked in if you're no longer buying what they are selling for over 2 decades....I hate and despise what your doing...here take my hard earned money for 2 decades said no one ever.

Cant have it both ways and talk out your ass if you keep saying your not buying BUT LITERALLY BUYING WHAT THEY ARE SELLING...

Just like franchises sometimes have to bite the bullet and trade or sell pieces they invest in when they dont work out...they dont keep them until the very end just for keep sakes.
Hmm maybe just me but I can disagree and be disgusted with ownership and still watch the team, buy gear, tickets etc. I did that with Oilers for decades. Same with Astros, Rockets, Longhorns and Cougars.

yes you can...difference is I just dont hear (or in this case read) you repeatedly saying and screaming from the mountain tops that your not buying what they are selling for 2 decades.
I do the same until Im not happy and have personally boycotted the teams (have done it to the Oilers, Astros, Rockets, Texans, and Longhorns numerous times) and ACTUALLY DONT BUY WHAT THEY ARE SELLING until I see a change and feel comfortable spending my $ on them again.

Ok but how do you know that?

As far as we know (guess or are told), Janice has mandated one pick, Stroud who was huge fan favorite and one of top two QBs on most mocks. I can give her that but she should bear consequences...
Good or bad.

If Mrs McNair made the pick , she should have said "DeMeco, you said Slowik is the guy to turn this offense around and results in SF supports that. He should do similar here in Houston. Oh and BTW, Nick you have Cap space to extend our multiyear probowler LT and his buddy Titus.

And guys see if you can get that young man out of Bama to help our D. Oh and if you can get a starting center..

Go My Team!"

This is always the case. A fandom isn't just one person with a single set of ideas. I mean, look at this place.

Personally, I don't want anybody associated with my team to speak to the media, and if they do, I only want to hear BS. Transparency? Oh, hell no.

But I realize that I'm in a minority on that so I won't ***** about it too much or too often.

The thing that bugs me the most about Payton going after a first time HC was that as a young OC for the 2002 Giants, his offense scored 10 points or less in four of their first seven games. His offense was so bad, Jim Fassel took away his play calling duties.

I wished someone would have brought up his 2002 coaching performance and ask him to compare his experience to Hackett's. Especially when the Giants went from averaging 13 PPG under his play calling to 23 PPG with Fassel calling the plays.

This is certainly fair.

A GM especially should use wordspeak when it comes to personnel matters.

Payton would tell you he wasn't the HC and the things you bring up didn't mean squat. He would say when he got his shot to be a HC he took his shot and ran with it. Making millions in the process.

Reading comprehension issues.

I'm doing exactly what you're describing, only difference is they could win a SB and I ain't coming back.

And yet your still here...arguing passionately about a team you claim u give zero F's about...

Wow, they win a Superbowl and your still not coming back?!?!?! Hell I guess I just nostalgic and was glad Cap's back in the building and see the possibility of a bright future (Stroud and WAJr, if they would have F'ed the draft up I wouldnt be back here still)...that and some of the swag they have out now looks GOOOD!
