I really don’t understand this? He lead the team to a goal winning field goal but the kicker missed, so now it’s all Strouds fault? That’s like saying it be Brady’s fault if vinatieri missed the field goal in the dying seconds to win their first Super Bowl chip.
Stay out the rabbitt hole. Viniterri won several games for the the pats including the snow game. When dealing with Stroud and certain posters, its not going to matter.

This is too much.

You mean the finger nail painting QB who is supposed to be the next Mahomes choked?

Dude is a bust. More worried about his nails than preparing for a game.

You know what they say about a guy who paints their fingernails…they like massages at the Houstonian.

LOL, Could be true about the Houstonian.

Which game are you talking about the one Williams was playing hurt in. And there's a big difference in playing in the playoffs and a Thursday/Saturday West Coast game that you've had 2 weeks to prepare for. But yes I've got some questions about Williams. It's the reason I've got Williams/Maye ranked 1a and 1b. I find it hilarious that you make this connection, particularly when Scouts have Williams/Maye rated better than any QB in this class. I've also got McCarthy rated above any QB in this class.

A college kicker doesn't = a HOF'er like Vinateri.

No rush. Just pointing out a few things the Kool-Aid Brigade refused to consider. The Brigade was measuring him for his gold Canton HOF jacket. It was time for a reality check, not an I told you so moment. Before starting the Canton Bust you should know Stroud is the spitting image of Zach Wilson and everyone thought Zach was the cats meow. Daniel Jerimiah made a fool of himself fawning all over Wilson. No one has labeled Stroud a bust and no one has labeled him an MVP All Decade All Pro. Both are possible. Stroud is just not a sure thing the Brigade is insisting he is.
I know I was against Wolson but there were alot of posters calling him the Mourmon Mahomes. Alot wanted Watson traded for the rights to draft Wilson. I'm not going to pull receipts, but we know who they are. Wilsom and Stroud play nothing alike, irs not even close. Never was.

Its called doing your job,1 job. I didn't like the up the hole run by Day, but Ohio St defense was the same defense that gave up 5 tds of over 70 yds to Michigan. The other was 49 yds. Let that sink in.

I agree with Day screwing the pooch, Stoud did his part to help lose that game too.

I like Williams too. Probably more than Young or Stroud. My one big issue is if he is a Riley system QB. Because all of them have struggled in the NFL.

That being said, if we are going to be intellectually honest and not try to play some pushing buttons game or driving a personal opinion agenda, what Williams did in the Pac-12 Championship game to lose a chance to play Georgia in the playoffs was just as bad as what Stroud did in the game against Georgia in the playoffs.

At least Stroud got his team to the playoffs. Williams' choke job cost his team that chance.

I don't think so. This is what I think of this team, until I see different. Main reason I didn't want to spend a top 15 pick on a QB.

Say, I've got some prime real estate back in the Okefonokee I think you'd be interested in.
He's got more talent and better coaching, as well as supposedly being more talented. He should win atleast 1/2 of those one score games with all of those advantages. Do you think Mills could do this with what I listed above, I do? No excuses

Williams was playing hurt. USC wasn't as good as their record, losing to Tulane, LOL

@steelbtexan you make excuses for the players you like, but are overly critical of those you don't personally. I mean you keep screaming Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, but Williams plays exactly like the player you can't stand,Watson, and Maye takes sacks after sacks, but you laud him. You speak of the failures of qbs from Ohio State, but gloss over the same failures by Riley and USC qbs. Just be fair, even though I know that's asking alot.

LOL. Strange times indeed.

@steelbtexan, @Texian and even @Number19. Out of curiosity. Why are you guys in such a rush to criticize and trash Stroud? I understand not wanting to be part of the "Kool-Aid brigade" or even being a contrarian, but you guys are already labelling the kid a bust while attacking his character and intelligence. He hasn't even played one NFL game.

So, the question remains. What is the rush? To be the first to say, "I told you so"? Every time he throws an INT, to yell from the highest mountain his S2 score? As a jaded Texans fan, I can understand being skeptical, but you guys are so over the top, it's crazy. At some point, why even be a fan?

I dont like the person or the player.

Overly critical, what wouldn't be overly critical when it comes to Stroud according to you?

I will say most of the scouts agree with me that Williams/Maye are better prospects than any QB in this class. Ask them why, I would say that they're smarter than Stroud and have more tools to work with. Take this up with the scouts, in fact ask your buddy Kirwin, I'm sure he will tell you.

I would argue that the finest game of his college career was the 2022 Rose Bowl where he completed 80% of his passes for 575 yards and 6 TD's, where there were four ties/lead changes in the 4th quarter and he led a drive in the final two minutes to win the game.

Maybe I should've said in the biggest game of his career.

Different playing obviously hurt, than what Stroud did in the playoffs.

He said he "severely hurt" his hamstring on a 59 yard run in the first quarter. From that play to the half, he went 10-16 for 125 yards. He had multiple runs in the second and third quarters. He led a TD drive at the start of the 4th quarter where he had a 14 yard run and had five straight completions for 59 total yards and a TD.

How does one "severely hurt" one's hamstring and still manage to run all over the place and throw the ball that well, including some downfield throws at 30+ yards?

A long FG by a college FG kicker. I blame Day as much as I do Stroud. However if Stroud had played well in the 4th qtr it should've never come down to needing a GW FG.
Imo stroud played as well as you could ask of him, anything more than that then you’re asking him to play the “perfect” game which is near impossible. It would also help if the other guys on the team played their part too (defense)

Ask him

Did you see the game? I watched him limp around all game.

It's not about playing a perfect game, it's about coming up big in clutch situations late in big games and Stroud didn't do that and his team lost. It's not the 1st time this has happened. This is very simple.

Kindly pointing out that Williams did not come up big in clutch situations in his final two games last year either. If he was healthy enough to be on the field and running for 10-15 yards, he was healthy enough to be held accountable for two fourth quarter collapses.

Again a view into what the future is going to look like.

It's everybody but Strouds fault.

Can we not turn that into another Watson situation - where some people are looking for every fault they can to „prove“ that they are right and the player actually is bad, and other people find excuses and only talk about the positives to „prove“ that they are right? Stroud is a prospect with strengths and weaknesses - most experts having him as a top 10 prospect this year. Drafting a QB is almost like a lottery. Surefire studs turn into busts and Mr. Irrelevants turn into quality starters.

Am I worried about his S2 score. Yes. To me the biggest question mark around him is not the question, if he is willing and able to run. It is, if he can adapt to things on the field, that surprise him, fast enough. That was one if his weaknesses in college and that could be related to the S2 score.

Would I still have drafted him? Yes. I have seen enough of him to be willing to take a chance on him. It might backfire, as around 50% of QBs in the first round do - it might work out great. I am rooting for him, and am ready to give him time. But that doesn‘t mean I will be blind for his weaknesses.

Nope, not at all, what I'm saying is, in the finest game of his college career he failed at the end of the game to LEAD his team to a win. He wasn't the only part of losing that game, but he was certainly a large contributing factor, along with Day and the defense. I'm sure you've seen that game and there no denying it. Now you have some blaming the loss on everybody but Stroud. It's a trend I expect to continue down on Kirby.

How long until he plays poorly in the 4 qtr/lose a game and some on this MB go to well he's young or worse the defense lost the game. Wrong, the TEAM lead by Stroud lost the game. This is the same crowd on this MB that played the everything that goes right was inspite of BOB and when things went wrong it was all BOB's fault crowd. Nothing could possibly be Derrick's fault. History is truly repeating itself, from the Carr pick until well into the future.

How many games did Viniateri make a FG at the end of the game so Brady could “lead” his team to a win after engineering a drive to get them into FG range?

Stroud led his offense into FG range to win the game, the kicker missed the FG.

Like I said before there's a big difference between a HOF'er like Vinatieri attempting a GW FG from over 50 yds to win a championship vs a pimpled face college kid, but you know this.

Funny you mention Derrick, I predict this wont end up exactly like Derrick's did on the field, where everything that went right was because of Derrick and everything that goes wrong is because of BOB. Why? I think we all know why.

BTW, Dumb QB's usually dont do well in the NFL.

A professional video game player would do better on the S2 test than any NFL QB player.

The game is set up on an Xbox controller.

How does a test on a Xbox controller tell you what a player does in cleats, a ball in his hand, and a 280LB DE after him?

It don’t. You can’t test that.

That is why the S2 may be a component of a draft grade but not the decider.

So far every QB that's scored poorly on the S-2 in the last 5 yrs has performed poorly in the NFL.

The S-2 doesn't tell you a QB will be great if he scores high on the S-2. But if he scores low on the S-2, the last 5 of testing says he wont be successful.

We both know that if he had scored high on the S2 you would be dismissing it as psychobabble pseudoscience.

I hope Stroud can play to the level of a prior QB who stunk on the NFLs fancy 'IQ' test of the time and also shared an agent with another QB who the agent pulled strings for and manipulated where he played..

Anyone know that QB?

Lucky, let other people guess..

Not at all and if you truly believe me you dont know me. This is the reason why I said if I was forced to pick a QB in this draft Young would be my pick. He's smart and performs well under pressure. He has the ability to think quickly on his feet.

To be clear, I've posted I have a wait and see position on Stroud. I've also posted he obviously has athletic ability. And I've posted he has red flags. But, yes, I didn't like the pick, although I expected it.

Is the criticism, and "rush", that different from the criticism after drafting Stingley or Green?

IMHO. Yes. It is different. I don't recall the same level of vitriol when they took Stingley over Sauce. In fact, were you questioning Stingley or Green's character before they even found their lockers at NRG or were you concerned about Stingley's injury history and if Green was drafted too high?

What happened to this guy?

Who in the past several drafts has been more accurate in the pocket than CJ Stroud? Finally have that guy, but no. Give me a scrambling QB like Bryce Young or even Caleb Williams, next year.
I like smart QB's first and foremost in addition to the things in the post above. Talent can make you avg. That's what Stroud will become. I believe the S-2 tried to tell Cal something. But Cal didn't listen and he will get what he deserves.
