2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

I’m thinkin ol Slick Nick stands pat tonight, takes his two 3rds and waits for tomorrow.
Imo they gave up enough last night to get two of the best players in the draft. Let’s keep what they have or get in trade backs. Not give away and lose more

There were always 3 sound arguments here:

-you have to have a qb.

-take the best player (defense) on the board and don't reach for a qb if you don't believe in him.

-trade back and acquire more draft capital.


We check marked two of those scenarios. I've no idea if a trade back was available. But the purpose of getting all that draft capital IS to eventually move up and get key players isn't it? They liked cj and wa so they pulled the trigger.

At least they had the gumption to do it. Every team starts fresh in the off-season. It may not work out ,but I'm enjoying the moment.

Never proposed tanking but go off man as long as it makes you feel better!

So I think this is the thinking that gets you tied down to mediocre QB play.

We tried that with Schaub in 2013 and got totally eviscerated by the Pats, tried again with Osweiler and they did the same thing to us again.

When you look at teams that compete at a high level year in and year out they all have a constant. Excellent QB play. I’d have been okay with a QB at 2 but it should have been Richardson, a guy who I think has the potential to be a top 5 QB.

Richardson will either get there in a few years or it will be abundantly clear that he’s not the guy by 2025.

I think Stroud will be a tease. Playing just well enough one year where you trick yourself into thinking “okay if we could just put in a couple more pieces this off-season we can go in and beat Mahomes”. Repeat year after year until the experiment runs its course just like with Schaub and Kubiak

Like you said, it is subjective on how we view Stroud.
In my opinion, Schaub lacked, Osweiler sucked. Both of these issues hampered our outstanding defenses.
I agree, Richardson is a boom or bust prospect, He can be elite, or he can bust. Whereas, Stroud, can be "good enough". And good enough paired with an elite defense (IF, all of our cards fall into place), will be a better team that anything fielded during our Schaub/Osweiler years.

I am not a Stroud fan boy in the slightest, but I have a feeling his floor is Schaub's ceiling. And we don't even need to mention Osweiler again as I think Levis may be a player in his image.

FYI, even if we waited until next year for our QB, we could still very easily have been tied down to mediocre QB play. There are no guarantees, even at the TOP of 2024's draft.

raft order tonight…or maybe too much Angels Envy? Edit I guess not

They got their QB now so if he fails they are right in line to get ARCH MANNING!!!

None of those quotes are attributed to you but as long as it makes you feel better have at it.

Its a line of thinking that we can just wait, wait and wait some more for "the guy" to fall in our lap. Think about it, its quite possible that this will be just thr THIRD capable QB in 23 years, that's a fan beat down of the highest order......

I agree but that was a year we got lucky and drew the Joe Flacco lead Ravens. We aren’t getting that lucky in this AFC. If you want to do anything of note in the AFC for the next decade you’re going through at least one probably two elite QB’s.

The Rams won with Stafford throwing 2 INTs; they didn't have better QB play in that game.

The Buccs shut down Mahomes and a balance offense.

The Pats shut down the Rams offense and also won with a balance offense.

The Eagles beat Brady and the Pats with Nick Foles.

The Broncos beat the Panthers with Manning throwing for 141yds, no TD and an Int.
They won because they forced more turnovers.

The Seahawks beat the high flying Broncos 43-8 with the ground game and 2 special team TDs.

All that happened in the last ten years.

You don’t have to wait for him to fall in your lap you can go get him. Like us and the Chiefs did in 2017.

I’m not categorically against drafting a QB I just don’t think Stroud will be the guy we need to be a top tier AFC team. We shall see

It is Detroit man. No one else would have drafted him there. They still have 48 and 55. They have drafted all of their players at least one of their picks too high. I'd have liked their draft had they drafted someone else at 12, then bumped everyone down to their next pick

The Texans no longer have a bad team.
They can compete for the AFC South banner right now.

But my post wasn’t about Mulugheta. It was about the Texans valuation process.

if he’s 2nd tier don’t pay him like he’s 1st tier. Be prepared to lose him because of who his agent is.

I’m on here to talk about the football team I’m a fan of. I am being critical of a choice that I don’t believe will work out for the Texans but in general I’m a pretty positive fan.

Are you so fragile that you can’t handle that? If you disagree with my opinion and want to talk about it then we can do that. If you disagree with my opinion and don’t want to discuss it then just frown and move on.

Yeah I'm still trying to figure out if Anderson, 1.12, Levis + all the other picks we traded are better or worse than Anderson/Stroud.

Here is some poop soup for you. Next year's draft the top 6 to 8 picks are better than this year's draft. 2024 1st RD picks are premium picks, you don't give them away. Giving away 1 of your 2 2024 1st RD picks may cost you a chance at Marvin Harrison or Brock Bowers or 1 of the 3 QBs who are all better than the QBs in this year's draft. The smart move would have been to trade back and pick up a 3rd 2024 1st RD pick. That would require someone to put down their Gameboy joystick and stop living in the moment. We call this forward-thinking Poop Soup.

Even if I believed that my ultimate hope for this team is not competing for an AFCS title in 2023. It’s to be a team that is competing for championships. I don’t think Stroud will get us there

That is a fair assessment. Everyone's has their opinion regarding Stroud, which is why I made the other post topic where we can guess to his success level in 3 years, and revisit it at that time. This time next year people will be punching holes in Caleb Williams and Drake Mayes and everyone will be screaming to wait for 2025. Happens every year.
