It is a lot. They're betting on greatness that would not have been available later. Some don't see greatness in Anderson. Some don't see greatness in Stroud. Some just don't see greatness in anyone.

For the Texans to come out a winner, Anderson and Stroud have to be great. Many here said in the days prior to the draft "You don't take a player unless you believe in him." Clearly, the Texans believed in Stroud and Anderson.

Do I think Stroud is a top 10 QB or will be? Nope. Do I think he is better than Jimmy G and others who have successfully run a WCO? Yep.Just need to get the players surrounding him. Yeah Caleb and Maye are probably going to be better, but within the chosen offense how much better? If we can get Stroud from the Georgia game 90% of the time, it is a no brainer. If not then at least the offensive structure for Slowik's offense will be there and HELLO ARCH MANNING...LOL

Spent the evening watching stroud and I love his accuracy as a passer, if he has the mind to dissect defenses then I believe he’ll be a very solid QB.

Junior is special.

What I think people are dogging on him is actually because of his economy of motion. He’s beating people with small movements because he is so much better than the competition!

Force it? No you don't do that, but WR and RB are the positions which can be drafted in the 3rd and 4th and wind up studs. Especially WR. Mingo can be better than JSN, so can Tillman. The huge thing with WRs is coaching and how well that coaching is received. The physical measureables are almost the same between a lot of receivers. Heck even Iosivas.

And this is the reason Ryans/Caserio deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Cal's greed doesn't deserve the benefit of doubt. IMHO, We know what the McNair family is all about.

Do you think Casserio and DeMeco would ruin their careers to possibly draft a guy in 2024?

The theory that Cal forced them to take Stroud has no evidence as far as I know, beyond speculation. If all of the "evil agent" scuttlebutt was to be believed, it was Cal that was probably opposed to Stroud, while Nick and Ryans wanted him. Cal could have demanded the trade up for Anderson for all we know.

Bro, people around here got narratives that go all the way back to the Carr pick 21 years ago. Some people aren't happy unless they're miserable.
 
For me, something feels different about this offseason. It feels... "more professional". From FA pickups to the order in which we took our picks last night (which clearly had some strategy behind it), to the very act of making the move back up to #3 - something just feels different. Even the social media posts afterwards had an elevated professionalism about them, the difference was palatable. Ownership might have finally figured out that appealing to your fanbase is okay. D Ryans is already bringing a culture change to Kirby that could finally establish some semblance of pride in the franchise. Whether or not last night's picks end up being the right one, I think we all can at least agree that there has been a paradigm shift with this organization, and that in itself is something to get excited about.

Good points. I have not watch any of Stroud's or Anderson's college football games. I have no idea if they will be productive or busts. Until I feel otherwise. I'm just going to be optimistic and trust that Demeco and Caserio drafted two players to get my favorite NFL team on the right track.

The Mrs. and I are empty nesters now. Thanks to having kids early in life, we can go spend our children's inheritance in our early 50's before our bodies start breaking down instead of waiting until we retire. The Sandbabe, she's from Wyoming and wants to go see her folks more often, so we wanted to buy a fifth-wheel RV and be gone from Houston for extended periods of time, especially in the summer.

But you need a Super Duty to pull one of them 45-footers, and I had an 18-year old F150. And we all know the price of new vehicles have been jacked up well over MSRP. I didn't want to overpay, but I also had a strategy that I was trying to execute to keep her happy. I needed the truck. It was a bada$$ truck. I loved the truck. So I grudgingly paid more than I would have under normal circumstances in order to make my plan a reality.

We've enjoyed the RV life. Looking forward to three weeks in Colorado and Wyoming this summer. We talk about how much we enjoy this new chapter in our lives. We talk about how much we enjoy the RV. But I would be a fool to constantly mention to my wife that the only reason we can do this is because we overpaid for the truck.

People are complaining that it was a lot to give up. It is disengenuous to say that it was not. It was a lot.

Was it worth it? That's a different question alltogether. & the one the complainers should be arguing.

I'm not a complainer (this time). I have no problem with the move. But I agree, it was a lot.

Agreed. But I think I am really going to love the truck the Texans bought.
 
That issue with the WR depth on this team is a real problem but it's not impossible to address I don't think. I'm sure the Texans are doing their homework on every potential pick out there and looking for the guy who is going to take his draft position as a personal challenge. Then they will watch the waiver wire and probably take at least a cursory look at every WR that makes a practice squad. Finally somewhere a veteran WR or two will be a surprise cut and they'll check them out too. We may not end up with a true WR1 this year but it sure won't be for lack of trying.

I know, that was overly optimistic of me. Don't worry. It will pass.

Mayock on uppers chasing thunder thighed truck lot trash is a far superior draft prep compared to whatever sissy shite Mel Kiper does.
 
I am typing this mostly so that I have record to go later when I forget what I thought. going into the draft I liked Young, Stroud, and Anderson and would have been please with one of them. The fact the Texans got two them made my night. My pre-draft preference was take one first and then stay at 12 and 33 and get another player at the De/QB which wasn't drafted.

Things I like- The Texans will know what the next three to four year looks like in terms of the core pieces that are being built around. These are highly productive, healthy, football guys who played at the highest level of college. Also, the Texans were decisive and made a bold move that will define the Demeco/Casserio era.

Things of concern- The price. The Texans now have complete building without the further benefit of the Watson extra picks. these picks allowed for the trade to happen. The perception is that both Stroud and Anderson have a high probability of at least goodness, but questions exist if they can perform at the élite level in college.

Not of concern- Scheme Fit. Anything related to his agent

It's hilarious to me how much Kiper and Prisco pumped up Levis and he might end up the 5th QB taken in this draft. Normally, if a guy is that good and falls that far, a QB needy team will trade to the back of the 1st round to get him so they have that 5th year option.

He's the guy that draftniks like - a tall white guy with a big arm. I think they hype these guys because that is what teams wanted in the 1990s. Kiper is notorious for hyping that type of dude to the moon. Jimmy Clausen is the most infamous example.

I agree the price for trading up was a bit steep but I'm not ok with it, based just on pick value alone.

But what offsets the price somewhat, and makes it more palatable is the enormous amount of cap space next year.
Caserio has done a fine job of signing role players, drafting players at key positions and setting himself up to fill out the roster pretty much any way he needs to next year.
