2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

It's these two sentences right here that I disagree with. To me, this is saying we have to take a QB because we've got the 2nd pick.

We don't HAVE to.

Never said they HAD to take a QB. I said they're in a very good position to do so without having to spend a bunch of draft capital and finding a team willing to take it. They likely won't be in that good of position again next year so if people here are thinking let's just pass this year because Williams and Maye or whoever next year, there's no guarantees they can get that done and we'll continue to be in QB purgatory. May still be even if they draft one this year but they absolutely will be if they don't. Those are the risks you have to take.

Again, not saying the pick HAS to be QB, but they will need one at some point. It sucks that QB is the most coveted position on the field, which is why there's 4 or maybe even 5 QBs that could go in the 1st that have no business doing so, IMO, but that's the world we live in. If they feel good about a QB available to them at 2, then they probably need to pull the trigger.

Coach comes off as a straight shooter. I highly doubt he will flat out lie like that. And he was giving his opinion on those two players.

Dude, everybody lies. And you are rarely ever going to hear someone say something negative about players. He very well could like both QBs, but he very well could just be giving us the coach speak that all coaches give.

Man I cant wait for Levis to be the pick and I dont like Levis.

You've said before being entertained is more important to you than winning. Drafting Levis would make this MB very entertaining. Regardless of who the QB pick is I will be very entertained giving the new QB the Mills treatment.

I’m hopping onboard the Richardson train if we stay at 1.2. I’d personally take Stroud, even given what we know, but Richardson’s ceiling is outrageous. Who is onboard with me?

If they're gonna take a QB with 1.2, which I don't want them to, then yeah, I'm on the Richardson train.

Oh, I'll support the player they pick. Stingley, for example. Even though I thought it was the wrong pick, Stingley is a Texan and I hope he goes on to have a great career, regardless of the career of who I thought the pick should have been goes. Of course, that support only goes so far. Staying on the field would be the 1st hurdle.

Draft a QB late this year. Bennett/Haener/Tune etc...

Draft a QB high in the 2024 draft. That's when.

Hope and wishes are not a plan. This isn’t a plan. This is throwing a dart at a board late this year and hoping you land. And if not, hoping you can somehow get into position next year to take your guy. Of course hoping that these guys that look good now stay healthy, improve, and don’t flame out. This is simply grass is greener next year but no idea if it will be. Not a plan.

My Mom (God rest her soul) used it have a saying - if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

better saddle up ole paint. Giddy up.

I be one of the ones that be pissed if the pick was Levis or Richardson (not a fan of inaccurate passers)……..but then I’d get over it after a day or two like I always do :texflag:

If they feel good about a QB at 2, then they NEED to do it because you need a great QB.

If not, then they don't. It's not the end of the world.

The Chiefs traded a first, a third, and a first the next year to move up from #27 to #10 to get Mahomes because they felt that strongly about Mahomes. The Texans traded up from #25 to #12 giving away a #1 pick the next year. There were pundits who thought Mahomes might fall to us at #25, others thought that he might fall out of the first round completely.

It all comes back around to being both good and lucky. Good at identifying the guy you need, and lucky that there's a way you can get him.

Similar font and message as Levis tattoo. As pointed out on 610 this morning.

So now Ryans is lying because it’s lying season. Too freaking done.
You sound the type of person I would love to play poker against. This is a multi-billion dollar sport. Every coach lies during draft season. If Ryans thought Stroud or Young were not going to be the choice do you think he would say it? If he did he would be an utter idiot. Yes, you lie, you confuse people, you deceive. You don't do that with the players, but with other teams and the media? Absolutely.

They can easily trade up for one of the top 4 QB's next yr. All of whom I like better than this yrs QB class.

You like the class for now. We heard the same song and dance from everyone last year about how badass this class was.

Caleb Williams is basically how everyone saw Young or Stroud a year ago. We he comes out, expect the same stuff to come out about him. He will either be too small, a system QB, or yet another USC bust.

The Titans are in full-on tank mode, so that should put them ahead of the Texans in the draft by virtue of playing them twice. Maybe the Ravens can't fix their QB situation. Maybe Jordan Love is a complete bum. A top 3 pick is a gift that doesn't come around often.

The team has completely squandered what they got for Watson so far, they can't afford to miss on a QB

Not from me.

We all disagree on what to do (this is the reason the debate is fun)

But, I think we will all be united in being pissed if they take Will Levis

if at 2 yes I’ll be pissed, although I’ll find a way to get behind it. It’s not like Levis has no talent. His physical talent is very high. I just think he is wound so tight that he might bust a spring. But if he could learn to relax just a wee bit, and harness his immense talent, he could be special. He could also be so bad that he is serving me a spaghetti dinner at Olive Garden in 3 years. I fear it’s the latter and not the former due to personality/ego, and believing he is Superman. I see turnover machine. Slowik and co. Will earn their salary if they can turn him into a special player.

if he is their guy, I’d much prefer trading down and choosing him at the new spot. It’s a slight hedge against bust because you have additional capital to work with. I’d also consider a late round flyer on Dugan or similar as another hedge against bust. But that’s just me.

I honestly don't see any reason to take Levis over Richardson. AR15 can do everything Levis can, but better. He's also younger and blows him out of the water physically. Neither can hit the broadside of a barn currently, but the current trend seems to be coaching up raw talent, rather than picking polished guys.

I think Demeco had his fingers crossed ? It's ok to lie if you do that.

I just came across a picture of Tyree Wilson being carted off after his season-end foot injury. Now I have to reconsider his injury. The bandage he is sporting in the pic is not one you expect for a Jones fracture. Rather, it's one I would place for a midfoot sprain..........specifically a Lisfranc injury. The fact that his surgery was Nov 21 and he missed not only the Combine, but also required a 2nd surgery to remove hardware and failed to perform at his Pro Day for which at the time of the Combine he promised he would be there.......................I am very guarded about his future. If a simple screw/screw head removal for a Jones fracture (which only requires a 1cm incision) was performed, it makes no sense that his surgeon Dr. Robert Anderson well-known foot specialist would write a letter saying he should not work out for 2 weeks in order to avoid sweating and increasing chances of infection.

This fits in with the Tony Pauline report that the Texans have problems with Wilson’s medicals

Cal mcnair assures me that the Texans are going to lose both games to Tennessee, Jags and the Colts this year.

You know....QB- Hendon Hooker could create a stir as well. Media and analysts have been all over their considered top four QB's in this draft. If folks don't think their team will get one of the four (Young, Stroud, Richardson, or Levis) then the next plausible group of QB's begins around RD4. I believe teams who have Hooker on their radar are fine with the way the media is handling this scenario. Titans at the 12th pick could be the one's really hoping Hooker doesn't go media popular today or tomorrow. If the Titans were to land Hooker.....the media crush in Tennessee would be amazing.

I believe the Texans have remained low key as well b/c no one really has a clue as to what direction they may go. IMHO, Stroud is out at #2 primarily b/c of his agent and the agents history with the Texans and working out with Watson while thinking so highly of him would be another strike in the Texans book. I believe the Texans could have interest in Hooker as well since they did meet with him face to face at NRG. The Texans could decide to go Hooker at 12 but with the Titans at 11, that could sure gum up the plans.

If the Texans trade back to say 7 or 8 from the 2 spot, then we might be able to assume they have Hooker in their sites while picking up some additional draft capital. Going to be an interesting Thursday night.

I had not thought about the Tennessee connection, good point. Value falls off after Hooker, but some worth a 3rd or 4th

Not to pile on Levis, but when he had a question at the Manning social he attended, his question was about marketing himself in the nfl. Not about blitzes or roll coverages, or anything football, marketing. Of course Peyton gave him a great answer to make sure football is 1st.

I heard this too. This is as bad/worse than having Mulugheta as an agent. His mind ain’t in football.

This is called Football "second."

Also shows a fairly large lack of intelligence.

If you are great at football.... the accolades, commercials, will come.

I would consider this highly damning.

Brings me to Nick Caserio talking about the process over goals.

Will Levis ain't his guy if he truly believes in that, and you have to assume Nick has come across this story.
