Demeco Ryans’ Staff

I got it. I misunderstood and thought you were asking what the system was. You were stating your opinion that ZBS isn't good system for the QBs we might draft. That could be true, I haven't a clue. Don't watch CFB at all and don't know anything about any of these QBs beyond the quick write ups.
If we are going to be 'for' a coach or system, we should delve deep into the players, either college or free agents and how they will respond in those systems and for those coaches. That is why I and others spend hours reviewing and posting info for you to use.. if you want.

Example, Pitre and Stingley were misused by previous coaching. Same as Tight Ends under OBrien. I believe these will be better under new regime.

Is he another Mike LaFleur? Or worse?
Because he can't be another Mike McDaniel? Or better?

Slowik's first job in the NFL was a defensive assistant for Mike Shanahan's Washington team in 2011-2013. His dad, Bob Sr., also was there coaching the DBs and LBs. The elder Slowik was a long time NFL defensive coach, with his first NFL job on Jimmy Johnson's first Super Bowl team in 1992.

I like that Slowik has a varied background. Offense, defense and analytics (PFF). He has had the opportunity to see the game from different perspectives.

But is it possible he could be another Mike Lafleur or worse?

Hasn't Gannon already stated that he will be returning to the Eagles?

He said that because he knew he wasn't getting the Texans job and at that moment wasn't in line for any others. The Cardinals opening shifted after it looked like either they'd snag Peyton or Brian Flores was getting the gig and they kind of reset their process. Now Gannon is one of two finalists and either interviewed yesterday or today.

I didn't say he would be worse. I just asked a question. 3 questions matter of fact. Never said one way or the other what I thought he would be.

I know you didn't say worse.

Care to expound on your thought process as related to this hire?

I was hoping Shane wouldn't go to the Colts. That's a great hire imho. If they jump up and get Bryce, watch out. The Colts will be factors again very quickly.

I was "meh" on Gannon, and I remain so. I'm not sold on him as a HC but we'll see. Out of these 3, I find him most likely to have an early exit.

I had Ryans first, Shane 2nd, and Gannon a distant 3rd in the Texans search.

What's crazy is that every serious candidate the Texans interviewed landed a HC job.

Compare that with the batshit crazy of the past two years. Flipping amazing.

Is it Hannah, or did Cal go to South America with Aaron Rodgers and find truth in the magic mushrooms and peyote?

When you have draft picks, money to spend, and a little talent on the roster that will help the HC search. Plus Easterby is gone muddying up the waters. Our ownership isn’t that bad compared to others.

Go back to the last 2 searches and take away having draft picks, money to spend and talent on the roster then no one wants that job. Plus Easterby was still present. Which made ownership look bad.

There sure are a lot of coaches these days...

Offensive running game coordinator, passing game coordinator, Defensive passing game coordinator, Boom box coordinator....

I guess you give titles to get as many smart people in the building as possible.

So who do you think we'll target for our Third and Short (less than three yards) From the Left Hash Coordinator?

Anyone seen dollar amount for Ryans 6 year deal? One year longer than last two so a bit more per season?

One of my concerns is that Ryans has emphasized that he wants to emphasize the run game. I certainly hope that. like with Lovie, that does not take over the OC's scheme/playcalling. With the WCO which Slowik will undoubtedly adopt (even the newer variants), the QB under center seems to be somewhat of an advantage. In simple terms, taking a snap from under center is better on running plays, while taking it in the shotgun is better on passing plays. And from a risk perspective, a mishandling of a snap in shotgun is far more common than a mishandling on a snap from under center. If Young (or even Stroud) is our target, it needs to be taken into consideration that most all of his snaps (and Stroud's) in college have been in the shotgun.

I didn't like Lovie the conservative defensive HC dictating the offensive scheme. I won't like it any better if Ryans does the same.

Another consideration is a good number of our OL will need "adjusting" because of the transition to a ZBS.

Texans get hot scheme with Bobby Slowik and his intriguing background

The Houston Texans got their guy in Bobby Slowik.

The San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator joins DeMeco Ryans as the former defensive coordinator takes over his original draft team from 2006. Interestingly Slowik and Ryans both started their 49ers tenures at the same time — 2017 — and as defensive quality control coaches under rookie coach Kyle Shanahan. However, Slowik diverted towards offense after that season and Ryans stayed on his defensive path.

Slowik, 35, is tasked with turning around a Houston offense that was one of the league’s worst the last two years under coordinators Tim Kelly and Pep Hamilton. The projected offensive system, from the Shanahan and Gary Kubiak tree, is one that’s been widely celebrated around the league. Former Shanahan protege and current Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel implemented the system with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this year and made the playoffs in their initial campaign.
Bobby Slowik’s time in Washington perfectly coincided with that loaded 2011 offensive staff.
He was coaching defense at the time but I wonder how that shaped his football mind practicing against and talking with Sean McVay/Kyle Shanahan/Mike McDaniel/Matt LaFleur everyday.

The hire comes after a brief courting of former Texas Tech and Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury. For all the experience that Kingsbury was projected to bring with quarterbacks along with the well documented “Air Raid” offense, Slowik represents more of a wild card than the other options available.

It could be just what Houston needs to play a new brand of football next season.

Slowik got his start in the NFL in 2011 as a defensive assistant for Washington, working alongside his father, Bob Slowik, who had been a defensive coordinator in the league for two decades and coached against some notable names at practice every day. The Washington offensive staff at that time included Shanahan, McDaniel, Sean McVay and Mike LaFleur.

Not a bad group to be around for someone who was destined to be an offensive coordinator.
"Why does it always take 2-3 years before Kyle Shanahan's offenses reach their full potential everywhere he goes? It's just a variation of the West Coast offense?"
*sees the section of his play book laying out his route tree is 24 pages long all by itself*
