Head Coach Candidates

That doesn't mean anything to me. Let the new coach come in and decide what he wants to do (keep or fire anyone on staff). That's what I would do... Not saying that's what's happening, but I would only fire the HC, and let the new HC decide on the rest of the positions that report to him.

Thank you. First rational statement. Ryans will come in, if hired, and give the staff an opportunity to interview with the guys he’d like to bring on board.

I don’t think Demeco was desperate enough to take a HC’ing gig, then allow everyone but himself select his staff.

That is what happened. The only announced firing was Lovie.

This isn't about whether Ryans is the guy or not. In fact I like Ryans and think he's got a good chance of achieving some level of success. No championships will occur as long as the McNair's own the team except if they have dumb luck like the Bengals did getting Burrow and it doesn't even appear they can get this right.

I dont like how the hiring process went down, the McNair's should've just come out and said, we're going to hire the guy that will put butts in the seats and we're going to do the same with the draft and the QB position. This is why despite the draft pick compensation I wanted the hire to be Payton. This kinda crap wouldn't be happening. Actually the McNair's should've just come out and told the fanbase they were going to hire the HC/QB that would make them the most money and be done with it. Winning be damned.
I was never excited about Payton, and that feeling was vindicated when he started using Cowherd as his media mouthpiece. Payton was a circus unto himself. We didn't need his circus combining forces with our circus.

I'm very happy we are going with a young coach, but my hope is that the coach gets some runway.

Garbage…Texans fans, please ignore.

I might talk a little **** and point out posters constant negativity and ask people "why" they are even fans, but come on now I don't think Steel would waste so much time on here if he wasn't a fan. Plus who the **** are you? We've all been here forever basking in this glorious never ending world of suckiness, you can't just come join us out of the blue and decide you are numero uno fan...

I won’t give a dime to that franchise until Cal is gone.

There are so many Texans fans blaming BoB for the situation we’re in now, but it’s not his fault he was given the keys to everything.

Again was you on that zoom interview? Why couldn’t it be because of Ryan’s own merit?

DeMeco Ryans has been on other teams radars. He's earned his shot......just like every other coordinator who ascended the ladder to an NFL HC'ing opportunity. While I'm at it, pretty funny how some are putting Caserio in a corner with a coloring book versus doing what he was brought in here to do. I was not a fly on the wall, but my guess, Cal didn't bring up getting DeMeco Ryans in for an interview. I believe this is another candidate Nick pushed for.....and was probably given the approval to pursue. I believe this is Caserio's coaching list, and Payton may have been added at Cal's request. My guess, Payton is the one Cal figured would put plenty of butts in the seats, but Nick talked him out of it b/c of the cost in assets.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Broncos "received indication" that DeMeco Ryans is no longer interested in their head coaching job.
Ryans remains the top candidate for the Texans' head coaching vacancy and was reportedly the top option for the Broncos after they appeared to lose out on Sean Payton. With the 49ers now eliminated from the playoffs, interviews should ramp up for Ryans this week. A reunion with the Texans remains a very real possibility, as Ryans could opt to return to the team that made him a second-round draft pick in 2006. He is expected to hold a second interview with the Texans sometime this week.

Bro, Steel, are you an actual fan of the Texans? If not, why does everyone keep responding to this guy?

it’s clear you don’t believe in the ownership or the team, so get the hell on! There are 31 other teams to be critical of. Let’s be a little bit optimistic of our hometown team. It’s one thing to say, “I told you so” and another to have some faith that the hometown team may find a nut.
There are varying degrees of fandom. A fan does not have to buy the same poms poms as you in order to be a Houston Texans fan.

LOL, how long have you been a fan of Houston football teams? Just because I point out that history is repeating itself doesn't mean I'm not a fan of Houston football.

I LOL at posts like yours, I've read them so many times over the yrs. Pointing out that nothing has changed doesn't equal hating the team or wishing the best for them.
If you've been a fan of the Texans and the NFL long enough you know what is going to happen before happens.

Give me a proven winner over a young guy I hope can figure it out.

If not quickly successful, He will be shown a runway at Hobby outta here. He will keep his millions so...

I'm no longer of the mindset that my HC needs to have experience as a "genius" OC or DC. I don't think that is the best way to do the job anymore.

Give me a guy who can instill a sense of accountability, drive, competitiveness, etc. All of that depends way more on the man than his experience as a coordinator.

Are we really going to hire DeMeco? I loved DeMeco as a player for us (he's the only Texans jersey I ever bought - battle red) and he might end up a solid NFL HC, however, I'm not sold on him being a good fit for us. There is a proven formula out there - offensive HCs are much better suited to bring along rookie QBs. This smells like a Cal move to me - bring in a great historical player for us that is a hot HC candidate. I don't think Caserio is calling this shot but after 2 botched hires he probably shouldn't be - he needs to hit on those 2 firsts this year that's what he needs to worry about. If the Texans were in the NFC then I could possibly see this being a real plan but the AFC has Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Herbert, Lawrence, and our arch nemisis Watson - all with much more talented rosters. Don't sleep on the Ravens either with some talent and a SB winning HC. Belicheck will be hovering around playoff contention as well. Also, who knows maybe Denver will finally get their shiiii together too. This is not a plan to get us to a Super Bowl level. My plan would be to take the best OC we could get as our new HC, take best QB at #2, best playmaker at #12 (whether WR or TE), fill in some of our other glaring weaknesses in the 2nd/3rd round or with free agency and roll from there. Try to emulate what Cincy is doing by getting the offense REALLY rolling with great skill players on rookie deals - at least GO for it. We have our RB, now lets get QB/WR. DeMeco has Cal written all over it if you ask me. Cheap thrills that won't pay the bills. Up next will be Tunsil getting ANOTHER record breaking contract and probably signing Garopollo to a 2 year $50M contract so we can "compete now" lololo!!!!! We might be contending for AFC South banners after this though - oh well, same ole. Man, its hard as heck to be a fan of this franchise.

I read a recent article IIRC on this message board that mcnair's were under the opinion that Ryans would not entertain an interview due to the lawsuit. Someone actually contacted Ryan's and ran it by him. He was surprisingly open. The article did not opine as to whom suggested 1st contact.

I thought Texans and NFL had settled with Demeco prior to 2021 but as i read article, there was no hint of $.

The sun could rise in the west tomorrow. Looking at history it probably won't and no I didn't consult with the moon to form this opinion.

You don't need the moon, just reverse the Earth's spin and the sun will rise in the west.

Now, the important question is which is more likely, the Earth changing spin or the Texans doing something right?

I believe these type of character traits are what make up DeMeco Ryans as a player and coach.

I'm so pumped for this (expected) move, I'm being tethered to my chair at work so I don't fly away. This will be a new day, and a new dawn for the Texans. Demeco is the perfect hire for this team and at this time. It's the perfect storm in a good way.

Unlike a couple of our other members, I think this shows that ownership is changing, and changing for the way better. I'm in no way saying Cal is perfect, but this is NOT what old Cal would have done with Easterbunny in his ear. We are now fully in the post OB, post Easterbunny era. I think it's fine to look at history, but some of us are trapped into that history instead of opening their eyes and seeing the changes taking place in front of their eyes. Step out of your old paradigm and see the light! Nobody has been tougher on Cal and ownership than me, so I'm no sunshine pumper, but I'm also not going to be negative Nelly for the sake of being negative Nelly. I am willing to allow for people to change - Cal, with the help of Hannah is changing, and I for one welcome the change. I don't care if Hannah is in his ear or even takes over totally if it means competency.

It's a new day fellow Texans fans! Back to relevance first and then let's go win us a championship sometime in the next few years. Let's go!!

Is it your opinion that Ryans hasn't earned a shot as HC at this time? To me, Payton was the bigger "butts in Reliant seats" HC, if that truly was the only measurement being used. If Cal wanted a stadium full of fans, Payton could've done that. The cost of getting Payton may have got Caserio to push back b/c the draft assets are far more valuable than the Payton's contract.

Tell us exactly what has changed. They hired a guy you like, that's all that has really changed. Nothing has changed when it comes to the fact that the McNair's always make decisions based on the bottom line. With this in mind, next on the agenda is drafting a midget, that will help put even more butts in the seats.

I'm hoping this all works out, but I don't kid myself as to why these decisions are being made.
