Meco can 100% coach a defensive. So, that is say 1/3rd the job. If he can manage a clock that's 2/3rds. And last, if we have an OC who knows what he is doing...we have a great HC. If selected, only time will tell how good he is or isn't. But, #1 D in the NFL this season and top 5 since taking the DC spot. Players work well with him as do GMs as he apparently gets along well with most. As a fan and as the fact that he is wanted by multiple (not just filling seats). I think he would be a great HC
Yep, it's pretty bad when your wife has to hold your hand through press conferences. I didn't see Janice holding Bob's hand through press conferences.

It's been this way since the Texans inception. From drafting Carr to hiring KUbiak to Hiring Wade to appeasing a sexual predator to hiring a HC because of a lawsuit to hiring Ryans and the beat goes on.

Really hope Ryans doesn't become another Todd Bowles - great defensive mind, mediocre head coach. Gotta love what he did for that 49ers defense though. But is the plan really to roll with Pep as OC? I assumed he would have been fired already??

That doesn't mean anything to me. Let the new coach come in and decide what he wants to do (keep or fire anyone on staff). That's what I would do... Not saying that's what's happening, but I would only fire the HC, and let the new HC decide on the rest of the positions that report to him.

ya i mean everyone wanted David Culley to be HC.
I fully expect Pep to be on next yrs staff, because that would be so Texans. Maybe as a QB coach or possibly as an OC.

If it doesn't align 100% with my own opinion/expectation, it's a bad decision. That's the view some around here hold.

This isn't about whether Ryans is the guy or not. In fact I like Ryans and think he's got a good chance of achieving some level of success. No championships will occur as long as the McNair's own the team except if they have dumb luck like the Bengals did getting Burrow and it doesn't even appear they can get this right.
I dont like how the hiring process went down, the McNair's should've just come out and said, we're going to hire the guy that will put butts in the seats and we're going to do the same with the draft and the QB position. This is why despite the draft pick compensation I wanted the hire to be Payton. This kinda crap wouldn't be happening. Actually the McNair's should've just come out and told the fanbase they were going to hire the HC/QB that would make them the most money and be done with it. Winning be damned.
I see it as Cal needing somebody to hold his hand in all things Texans related. Hannah's even getting a voice in the HC hire. Do you think Janice had that voice when Bob was alive? What this makes me think is that the rumors are true and Janice is in failing health. Now that Cal cant ask Mamma for help he's leaning on Hannah for health. Very Cletus like.
I honestly think it's a lot for a guy to bring in a whole new staff. Especially if we're talking about guys who are going to coach their side of the ball & be hands off on the other side.
Let him get his defense & staff in this year. Let Pep be Pep (we're not winning in 2023). Maybe we can get Matt Lafluer for the OC next season.

Hopefully you're wrong, my hope is Ryans can put together a quality staff on both sides of the ball. I will be disappointed otherwise.
