Even with a HoF qb, Saints went 7-9, 8-8 alot under Payton……

Generally speaking it doesnt go well for these highly sought after coaches that had success with 1 team for a while, left the game for a few years and then came back.
Ditka and the Saints..disaster
Gibbs and his 2nd stint with the washington..whatevers..hit or miss.
Jimmy Johnson and the Dolphins…Did ok..but He and Marino got embarrassed twice in the playoffs going out on a 60 burger hung on them by Jax of all teams.
Gruden and the Raiders..disaster……. in another way
Parcells is about the only guy who has been able to repeatedly step away from the game for a few years and then duplicate his success over and over.
I’d take Parcells in a minute! Old and all I bet he’d rule the roost!
Apparently, compensation has been agreed to before the request granted.
Aren't the Denver Broncos looking for a Head Coach? If Eniro isn't being considered there, why are we considering him here?![]()
Ejiro Evero. I had never heard of this guy. He's young (42), but has been in the NFL since 2007. Here are some names Evero has worked under on the defensive side of the ball.
Monte Kiffen (Bucs - 2 years)
Vic Fangio (Niners - 2 years)
Dom Capers (Packers - 1 year)
Wade Phillips (Rams - 3 years)
Raheem Morris (Rams, Bucs - 2 years)
Brandon Staley (Rams - 1 year)
This guy has worked in every defensive system imaginable. Downside? Only one year as DC, no head coaching experience. Would need an older, wiser assistant HC (would Lovie be available?).
Winning.

Why would Payton want Denver? They spent a ton of draft capital on Wilson and will have to spend even more on Payton. Maybe he believes the roster was good and this season was all a coaching issue?
I believe they just completed an interview with himAren't the Denver Broncos looking for a Head Coach? If Eniro isn't being considered there, why are we considering him here?
If Payton likes Wilson and thinks he can get the old Wilson back then Denver is a really great situation. They lack some talent on offense but a good QB can cover that up and their defense is great. Why would Payton want Denver? Denver has talent on offense, they were hit by injuries at their skill positions and Wilson played like crap.If Payton likes Wilson and thinks he can get the old Wilson back then Denver is a really great situation. the Saints tried to trade for Wilson last year and I doubt that was by accident
I believe they just completed an interview with him
Interesting response to the article.![]()
Weirdly, the Texans may be the best trade partner for both the Saints and Sean Payton
Each of the teams interviewing Sean Payton about their head coaching vacancies has something to offer. Weirdly, the toxic Texans might have more than most:www.yahoo.com
FWIW
Like the Watson trade negotiations?Apparently, compensation has been agreed to before the request granted.
Like the Watson trade negotiations?
Yup. Especially when you see the assets. In a stock a healthy company will have a huge reserve of cash and plans. We have a reserve of picks, healthy cap, and the start of a core of players to build around. The idea of the Texans being a "Toxic organization" is media gaslighting. The candidates being invited don't watch Stephen A Smith.
The Texans situation reminds me of a stock that's going through a devaulation in price while it still has intrinsic value. That's when you buy.
I think they are interviewing him just to say they did.
Final interviews, for some candidates, won't be allowed, by league rule, until Feb 13, after the SB.
For all intensive purposes…..I believe it will be Sean Payton interviewing the potential teams for his eventual landing spot.
Parcells couldn’t duplicate the success like he did back in the day b/c it was all dependent on him getting “his guys” in as players….which is just really code for guys who played under him at other stops. Those guys were be used to indoctrinate the younger players into his ways. Well All “his guys” are now retired and/or out of the league plus the game is so different now so he’d be dealing with a different type of player than he had from the 90’s.
Plus he's so old now that he wouldn't live long enough to coach up more of "his guys" before he died of old age even if that were possible. I'm afraid that ship has sailed. Sailed, pulled into port, gone into dry dock, and started rusting.
I think they are interviewing him just to say they did.
Intents and purposes. That is all.
PS - Payton is landing in Dallas if they lose in the WC round, and possibly even if they lose in the divisional round. This is just all for show IMHO but we'll see.
You may be right, but I gotta believe Payton has no true interest in the Texans though no one will ever say it. I damn sure hope they don't give up any draft capital for any coachI think Cal is serious. He wants someone experienced as a HC who can immediately stabilize the ship and has a vision for the rebuild.
Also we've been told Payton would want to pick his own GM. Caserio said at his conference he'd be willing to step down if a coach requested it. I think Caserio was directly referring to Payton.
FIFYThis and the Chargers as well.
I think Payton said he wanted to coach in LA.
Chargers, Dallas, and then Broncos. That order.
Chargers are only a player or two away. Taxes suck but that’s where I would go if I wanted to win quick.

Saints say Cardinals, Texans, Broncos are “well aware” of compensation for Sean Payton
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 13, 2023, 1:48 PM EST
Three teams have been given permission by the Saints to interview Sean Payton to be their next head coach, and those three teams know that kind of compensation the Saints will demand to hire Payton.
That’s the word from Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis, who said today that those three teams are the only ones that have sought permission to speak to Payton, and all three were given that permission only after the Saints made clear that they’re not giving Payton away.
“We haven’t settled on exactly what the compensation is going to be yet, but they’re well aware that there is going to be compensation,” Loomis said.
Loomis said he hasn’t offered a specific price for Payton because different teams have different combinations of draft picks that they’d be able to send the Saints.
“It’s going to be different for every team because they have different picks and different things available to them,” Loomis said.
“They have to get our permission to have a discussion with him, and then we have to have the compensation settled before they can actually hire him.”
The Saints are in rough salary cap shape this year and don’t have a first-round pick. It’s going to be tough for them to rebuild their roster, but draft picks for Payton would be helpful, and it would benefit the Saints if one of those other teams hires him.
I am not in favor of spending draft picks for a coach who only won with a HOF QB developed by another franchise and retired before his contract was complete. Let somebody else play that game; I'd rather roll the dice with one of the younger guys
I have seen/heard just like Houston and other reports say the Saints allowed the interview. Not sure anymore.

Payton is a friend of Parcels
Caserio is a friend of Belichick
Tell me who can get the best ol coach and that's who I want as a HC. They've put together a great list of HC candidates. IMHONone of those choices would be bad I don’t think. But he’s got to bring in coordinators that will coach, teach, instruct, whatever you want to say these guys. Guys like Greene needs to be coached up. Collins, Harris, etc.
Get these guys better. I mean hell, they have talent, they’re in the NFL.

I think you would have to add Dick Vermeil to the successful list. He was out of football from 1983–1996 then returned with the Rams & won a SB. He is one of the handful of HCs that have taken 2 teams to the Super Bowl.Parcells is about the only guy who had been able to repeatedly step away from the game for a few years and then duplicate his success over and over.
probably gonna have to give up 1-12.The Saints will want a 1st this year, not next. I don't see Denver as a realistic contender.
Very valid reasoning.I am not in favor of spending draft picks for a coach who only won with a HOF QB developed by another franchise and retired before his contract was complete. Let somebody else play that game; I'd rather roll the dice with one of the younger guys
Mike Munchak is available. Munchak has coached every blocking scheme but when Nathaniel Hackett was hired, he didn't keep him on the Broncos staff. Maybe that was a sign of things to come.Tell me who can get the best ol coach and that's who I want as a HC. They've put together a great list of HC candidates. IMHO
