Tough schedule. Good thing the Texans get to play in the AFC South, which is where I see most of their wins with this schedule. How in the hell does the NFL see fit to make Watson play in Houston two years in a frigging row?

I don't think so. Cincy and Baltimore are the only two teams with more than 9 wins this year.

I'll have to judge Caserio on what he does, not what he says. I can not stand listening to him. He's like some failed comedy skit from Monty Python. He speaks, but nothing of use comes out. Listening to cats caterwauling outside your window at 3AM is more pleasant.

Very interesting press conference.

Cal said he is going to be more involved.

Caserio says he is going to come up with a recommendation and deliver it to the owners Cal and Hannah McNair and ultimately they have the final decision.

Owners Cal and Hannah.

Cal is not spoken as an owner with Hannah’s name following shortly a few times.

If Caserio says it is a more fluid search utilizing resources making it more a collaborate process I might lose my ****.

Cooks once again running his mouth...

Brandin Cooks: I’m not looking to be part of a rebuild
“I’m not going into this offseason thinking I want to be a part of a rebuild. . . . I’m not looking at it as far as being a part of a rebuild, however that looks,” Cooks said, via DJ Bien-Amie of ESPN.com. “That’s why I trust my camp and my representation to be able to get a map from here to there and to see what that looks like to be a part of something that has a trusted plan.”

NC seems to be saying he picked bad coaches and is leaning on more people to kick him in the nuts when he gets infatuated with someone that is not the guy. Also, he acknowledges that the problem may be beyond coaching and is ready to be whacked if this year does not go better. So now I do wonder just how much the owners helped pick these last two. Better nail this draft and this coaching search, and start filling the W column and stadium

I agree with that. Caserio doesn't want to be here, but he does want that $24 million left on his deal. Getting fired would not be the worst thing that could happen to Nick.

Ask yourself, if true, why doesn't he want to be here?
He's been miserable the entire time in Houston. First, the Watson disaster fell on his head. Then he realized he would have to manage a rebuild while maintaining the illusion of being competitive due to an unrealistic owner. Not having the skills to manage a salary cap or the experience of being in a rebuild has overwhelmed Caserio. Now he has had to fire two coaches in two years? This would have been a huge challenge for an experienced GM. Too much for a rookie.

I would say he's done a good job of managing the cap they currently are 7th in the NFL in cap space and have the ability to get another 35 mil by cutting gus like Murray/Britt etc...

I would say he didn't know what he was getting into when he agreed to work for the McNair's.

Not getting to hire the HC's you want to hire and not being able to draft certain players due to the NotTexans Worthy, would be draining on any GM.

Trying to understand what you are saying.

The subject matter expert (SME) provides the knowledge and expertise in a specific subject, business area, or technical area for a project/program.

So Caserio provides the knowledge. expertise etc, and the boss ignores it. That makes Caserio a lap dog? I call BS on that.

IMO This name calling is a poorly disguised attempt to denigrate the man.

:coffee:
I have no desire or agenda to denigrate the man. It's merely your perception of a "disguised description", but you should not assume my perspective unless clearly I stated it. I use specific words with thought and purpose.

My description was solely and exclusively about his role within this organization. He has clearly not been given the power that other GMs have for other franchises. That's the part that is described as "lap dog", because it is obvious that this is what the owners want in their GM. If not Caserio then some other executive to fulfill that role.

If it makes you happy, by all means continue the name calling.
I think it says more about you and the others using the slang name "lap dog" for Caserio.
But that is just one mans opinion. Carry on.

Dude, it's just an adjective, not a noun. Nick seems like a good guy. He just works for the wrong people.

Since "lap dog" seems to offend your rather oversensitive nature, how about minion, lackey, or yes man? Pick the one that makes you less whiny about it and I'll use that instead. :howdy:

I prefer zombie, he certainly looks like one. And makes about as much sense when trying to speak.

Very juvenile response. Surprising. Learn something new every day.

Would you call him lap dog to his face?

I prefer Caserio or Nick.

*sigh*

I sincerely apologize for offending you. I like and respect you, and I regret that my flippant sarcasm has caused such an emotional response. That was never my intention.

And yes, if offered the opportunity, I would inquire with Nick Caserio about the power structure within the Texans organization, simply because his role is perceived by the general public and media as being less of a strong, powerful GM and more of a consensus building "yes man" to the owners' whims and desires.

There is literally nothing I say on this forum that I wouldn't say in person. I don't front. I am who I am regardless of who it offends, even if by accident.

I am not offended DB.

I have a hard time understanding the derision and hate on social media. It's my problem.

I'll do more reading and less responding.

A generational thing I suppose. All's good.

I understand. Initially, my lap dog comment was pure sarcasm. I have nothing but hope for Caserio. I often post 'stream-of-thought', like we're all in a living room, hanging out and chatting about football. So sometimes I do not realize how it could be perceived in written form.

While I know it's just entertainment, I do let myself care within a "football bubble", as my friends and I refer to it. Our wives used to think that we were arguing, but really we're just debating football. So we came up with the football bubble concept to step in and out of. That's where my mind is at when I come to the forum. My friend's wife will hear us getting heated, and we'll respond that we're in the bubble. She leaves us alone. lol

So the bubble's just a diversion about an entertainment product that we all care about to some degree or another. But I step out of it and then there's life and all it's struggles. This has no impact on me, with the exception of how I might impact someone else. Which is why I'm dead serious about my apology to you, too. I never intended to get cross with you or any of our other members.

So back to my comment. All within that bubble, and when I think about it, it comes from just being burnt out with these owners. I feel like it's a Bud Adams déjà vu thing. I wish they would just get out of the way and let the football people run it for once. Because I have zero confidence that the McNairs know how to build a football team. (This is not disparaging them as people, but only as owners of our football team.)

Please don't post less because of this. I value your thoughts and insights here for the past two decades and I would hate to lose any of it. :worldpeace:

That article is from June 2022
That was my question as June 2022 article said Dead $ for season 2022 was 52 million going in while spotrac for example has 77 million at end of 2022 season. Which players were traded or cut causing difference?

Yes, I figured that out after I posted. I think it adds up in little bits from releasing players such as KGH, Dwumfor, Pharoh Brown, Isaac Yiadom et.al later in the year

Nick started at $0 and restrctured every contract he could Which created a lot of dead money. Then he cut a bunch of restructured contracts which tripled the dead money.
