Should the Texans Clean House?

I would fire everyone except the special teams coach and hire a gm or hire the coach, like Payton and let him do what he do and run the show.
So you would force the special teams coach on a new HC?

Being serious now, we can see the bigger picture a little bit clearer today and that doesn’t include cleaning house. All part of the Calhoun Master Plan. That plan, just took us on a two year detour to reset everything that’s happened prior to 3 coaches and a mule before.

Breath. Kick-back & kick ass again (we hope). This is about as clean as our house is gonna get, so let’s move along, nothing to see :barman:

Y’all know where i stand on this. Anyone thinking much more could’ve been done over these last 2 years from the GM perspective is delusional. We could’ve brought in Bill Polian and this team wasn’t going to be doing anything or positioned any better. For that reason, NC deserves to stay. Lovie and Pep can kick rocks.
That’s not necessarily true. If NC had this reputation as having a hand in the play-calling during Culley’s one season, then you’ve automatically detracted high-end candidates from wanting to take the job as HC.

Think of it this way, if Harbaugh wants to leave Michigan, he will choose Denver or Indy over us every day of the week and twice on Sunday because he will have player control. NC only gets you some good candidates. Not all.

Drafting a CB #3 overall and only letting him play press-man 16 snaps in 9 games is a fireable offense. Lovie for not utilizing a player with top 3 talent to his potential. And Caserio for not being on the same page with his HC that they are going to play the player in such a fashion.

The value for the position does not match the pick if you are sitting him in zone all game.
I agree with this to an extent. It’s also plausible to think Lovie’s options were limited due to not having a run defense being DFL in the league. It’s so much easier to freeze your LBs on PA when you know you could be gutted for a 10 yard run on any down. Sauce’s press-man stats look so good because he IS talented but he also had the benefit of a better run defense and pass rush.

It was clear from damn near game 1, Culley was in over his head & likely needed NC on the headset…if he ever was on it. Furthermore NC had that reputation BEFORE he even came to Houston when he was in NE ……..with a GOAT HC…& he didn’t have a problem with it..but Beli is also a defensive HC too. Culley was literally the polar opposite of what Belichick is in terms of demeanor, experience , success and side of the ball each primarily coach…IOW, the situations are like Apples to dragon fruit lol.

Furthermore high end candidates likely wouldn’t need the help like Culley apparently did.

Excellent - was hoping Ben Johnson would be interviewed for the position, and apparently he will be. He is an excellent young offensive mind.

"Johnson was promoted from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator before the 2022 season and quickly turned the Lions into one of the league's best offenses. After a 2021 season in which the Lions finished 3-13-1 and ranked 25th in the league in scoring (19.1 PPG), Johnson helped turn the Lions into the fifth-highest scoring team in 2022 (26.6 PPG) as they went on to post their first winning season since 2017. The Texans currently hold the No. 2 overall pick in next year's draft and will likely need a bright offensive mind to lead whatever high-profile quarterback they end up drafting. What Johnson was able to do with Jared Goff under center could be enough to have several teams interested in his services."

This is ridiculous. It was Lovie's defense and Lovie's scheme. He knewc what he had before the draft which was the worst run defense in the NFL yet he stated that better cornerback play was needed. He could have addressed the DL & LB groups but his focus was on the secondary he knew was going to be playing in a soft zone. He hung himself
