Cal would definitely be able to choose a GM without having someone in his ear. I just hope Dungy or whoever does “help Cal find the right guy” doesn’t push Cal to hire a guy just because he’s a minority, and instead choose a guy based on qualifications.

Y’all know where i stand on this. Anyone thinking much more could’ve been done over these last 2 years from the GM perspective is delusional. We could’ve brought in Bill Polian and this team wasn’t going to be doing anything or positioned any better. For that reason, NC deserves to stay. Lovie and Pep can kick rocks.

You sure that’s what you want? I believe Dungy was consulted during the HC search that landed Culley.
Deserves got nothing to do with it
I want a new HC. I believe the GM should pick the HC. I don't want Caserio choosing the next HC.

Drafting a CB #3 overall and only letting him play press-man 16 snaps in 9 games is a fireable offense. Lovie for not utilizing a player with top 3 talent to his potential. And Caserio for not being on the same page with his HC that they are going to play the player in such a fashion.

At first I didn’t think that NC was at risk, but it also wouldn’t surprise me if there was a clean sweep.
I do admire the fact that the guys still have played hard for Lovie as the season has gone on. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how this goes.

That's a plus for Nick in my book. Drafting beyond the current coaching staff knowing he's not going to be around long. As he isn't the coach you wanted

We’ve gotten progress…just not as fast as we as fans would like & it wouldn’t have gone any faster with any other GM……So basically you’re saying you want change for the sake of change b/c “Hope” is a fan sentiment thing..it has zero bearing on how fast progress manifests within the team and its future.

I know Cal tried to give Caserio all the autonomy in the world.
He hired Culley. The only HC hired by a Texans GM.
Nick conducted the 2022 coaching search. No other GM has conducted a HC search.
Cal had to veto Nick's decision.
So no, I don't know that the next GM will have any more autonomy than Nick. But I know Caserio screwed his opportunity

If you believe Smith wasn’t integral in the hiring of BoB in 2014…& if you believe that NC conducted & had last say in these last 2 HC hires and NOTHING on the outside dictated how those HC were chosen, then there’s nothing else to discuss here.

No, Im saying I want a strong leader in charge not a timid pretender that will always play for the "moral victory" cause "they are good group of kids out there" that never quit.

noone knows the extent of this “casual conversation” But What we do know is that it happened & Cal most likely wouldn’t have reached out to Dungy unless he was inquiring about Culley…a guy Dungy admits he’s known for “a long time”….we also know that Culley was on noone’s radar for HC & that he emerged late in the search. We also know Cal’s history of looking outside the box for HC candidates…See the Josh McCown interviews. Its Highly likely Cal reached out to Dungy to get his opinion on who Culley was considering Dungy’s known the dude for a while. Not saying it was the end all be all..but bringing someone like Dungy into the fold hasn’t exactly proved to be some winning formula.

Fans are impatient…2 years was the wishing-on-a-star minimal amount of time it was gonna take for this team to dig itself out of the enormous amount of cow dung it had gotten itself buried under with the BoB/DW4/Easterby trifecta. It was always much more likely that it would be 3 years before we could start having some modicum of expectations for competing.

Hard to get excited about any of it really. Caserio has yet to do anything that would convince me he was worth all the BS it took to get him. Lovie and his staff are pure stink and I was done with him the moment he decided 0-0-1 was an OK start to the season. The offense has looked like garbage for years and the defense is just as bad. It’s been an ugly brand of football for a long time and it’s not as if they haven’t been making changes. It’s just that none of the changes ever seem to work out and that makes me draw the conclusion that the people at the top don’t know how to make it happen.

We were in such bad shape after BOB that I don’t think there was any other choice other then losing to collect draft picks and waiting for contracts to clear out.
I find it hard to judge Caserio based on that. This off season should be the first one where we actually try to get a competent coaching staff and collect some talent. I have no idea if Caserio is the right guy for the job, but he probably should get one more shot at it.

I would follow what SF did post Harbaugh. Now, posters need to remmeber, one of the absolute best talent evaluators in the NFL, McCloughin was fired after assembling that roster, Post JH, they turned the reigns over in house and failed. They then tried Kelley and he was fired after 1 yr also. Then they hired the wonderkid, pre McVeigh who have shown he's a better coach than the wonderkid McVeigh and for the most part, they have been in the mix, minus a star qb. Caserio is like BOB at Penn St. Sometimes , the guy who get you out the mud isn't the guy to push you forward. I would fire everyone except the special teams coach and hire a gm or hire the coach, like Payton and let him do what he do and run the show. If that happens, nobody would fault Cal or the McNairs in their decision. From a personal pov, I would hire John Dorsey and let him do everything and get out the way also. He's shown he can evaluate players at the highest level at multiple organizations. Something has to change and although I'm cool with Caserio, the Patriots way of operating just aint doing it for me. That model has only worked in NE with Hoodie and Brady.

There is a big section of the Pats fanbase that want Belichek gone too. He was a mediocre coach before Brady and has shown the same thing since Brady left.
I don't think with the salary cap hell BOB left us in that there was much different Caserio could have done the only thing I would have rather seen was signing young guys and hope you find some diamonds in the rough instead of all these vet JAGS that were just what they were roster fillers.
This off season Caserio is he stays is really on the clock to getting some talent on this roster because they need to start winning some games and I think they should pick a QB just to get the fanbase excited again.
He found Tavierre Thomas/O/Tremon Smith etc... So it's not like he hasn't found any diamonds in the rough.

His name slips my mind, AJ somebody. How did Foster waste away on the practice squad when he was undrafted and turned into an all pro?
He was the best RB on the roster and was stashed on the practice squad most of the yr. The last 2 games that yr AF got to play and his talents shined brightly.
