Man, this reminds me of when we had the first pick and people were going on and on about do we draft Burrow or trade down and get someone else?
I am very happy we took Burrow #1 overall, but when viewing with 20/20 lenses, it's arguable we should have traded down and took another QB later.
That being said, there's no telling if the other QB options would have had the same level of success in our system.
Regarding the Texans, I've mentioned here many times that I believe in the philosophy of, "If you don't have a franchise QB, you try to get one".
So with that thought, the Texans should take one of either Young or Stroud and make their stand with them. It no longer cripples a team to get it wrong.
I really enjoy the draft, although 99% of the talk leading up to it is useless. I also really enjoy playing around with the mock draft websites.
For example, I routinely go to the pro football network simulator and draft as the Texans because you can make trades on that one.
Earlier, I had the Lions offer to trade up to the #1 pick from #4 and they were targeting CJ Stroud.
I accepted the trade offer and got the Lions #4, #15, #46 and #60 this year, along with their 1st round pick in 2024.
Here's how the draft fell from there for only 3 rounds, as I start to get lost on players beyond that at this point in the season.
#4- Bryce Young, QB, Alabama- The teams at 2 and 3 didn't need a QB and I went ahead and took Young, pairing him up with Metchie from college together.
#12 (From Cleveland)- Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU- Give Young another BIG receiver and playmaker.
#15- Tyree Wilson, DE, Texas Tech- I don't think much needs to be said in adding a high end talent at the DE position.
#32 (Miami forfeit their 1st rounder)- Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah- Yet another playmaker to make life easier on Young.
#46- Siaki Ika, DT, Baylor- Running mate for Wilson, who is a monster of a man (6'4, 350lbs) and is disruptive in the backfield.
#60- Tommy Eichenberg- Highest rated LB and thought some help there wouldn't hurt. (Confession... total homer pick as I love this kid)
#64- Brandon Joseph, S, Notre Dame- I really like this kid at the safety spot and add some help to the secondary.
#73- Mechi Gardner, CB, LSU- A taller CB prospect to add to the competition, although I just missed on the Center from Minnesota there.
Mind you, I'm not saying this is anywhere near a reality, but it does give perspective at what "COULD" be had should they decide to trade down.
AGAIN, I'm not saying this is what SHOULD happen. It's just fun to play around with it.
