2023 NFL Draft Order

Rounding out as I expected Houston 1.1 and Browns 8 to 10.

I can see a double trade down from one to three or four and then that spot traded down again. If we don't come out of this with at least three firsts in 2023 I'm going to be disappointed.

I'm hoping for two 1sts and two 2nds in 2023 and the Texans 1st/Browns 1st/Traded for 1st in 2024 so Caserio will have the ammo he needs to trade up and get his QB in 2024.

With the less than stellar play of many of the veteran quarterbacks this year it seems to me that more will be coveting our earliest pick. I’m hoping that NC parlays that into several additional low round picks and also hope he finds a way to sign some established younger vets. Maybe take a flier on another qb in the later rounds..

If the Texans were in the 2 & 4 spots and didn't get a very strong offer to trade down, they could possibly select Carter and Anderson. How freakin' sweet would that be?

If those spots stay the same I would thing that #2 spot becomes attractive to various teams.

Would Seattle want to jump ahead of Carolina to get the QB they want and just swap the number 2 for 5 and maybe an extra pick?

If Detroit picks a QB then all of a sudden whoever is left Fields/Stroud my command a nice trade.

I think however we will pick at 3-4 and the trade from CLE will get us a pick at 8-10.

I think 2 and 4 will both be attractive should the Texans decide to trade down

With the way Geno Smith is playing I doubt Seattle has any intrest in trading up

You mean Young/Stroud right?

I don't think it stays at 2 & 4 either, but I do believe the Browns pick will be in the top 15

Yes - I meant Young.

What is playing to our disadvantage is the only other team that may be willing to trade up for a QB is WFT and ATL. These mediocre QBs in SEA, ATL, WFT, and NYG are hurting our trade potential.

We may be stuck.

Why everyone fascinated with trade downs vs acquiring premium players?
speaking only for me Texans need players everywhere and high quality can be taken deep in next draft; not sure why you think "premium" players limited only to top 5 selections? Texans projected 1.1 and 1.4. I will be dropping a top 15 NFL mock soon with my choices for Houston through round five.

I don't, but premium players are more than likely high drafted players. If that wasn't the case, why have rounds of a draft and grades, right? If I can get a player who grades out as a all pro/pro-bowl caliber player vs solid starter rotation player, I'm taking the all pro caliber player. That's not to say there haven't been players who have been misgraded or misscouted later in the draft who turned out to be of that ilk, but more times than not those guys are in the top 2 rounds of the draft.

Revamps the DL in one draft. I wouldn't be opposed to picking Ika in the 2nd. Can you imagine a DL of Carter Anderson and Ika, that's a game changer.

Sign a LB like Smith in FA and that side of the ball would be immediately go from a major weakness to a strength.

If Caserio gets lucky he could draft these guys and Mingo, Kincaid in the 3rd and trade up for Stromberg in the 3ed.

I would consider that to be a great draft and it's very doable.

I said this last draft, we can pretty much go BPA right down the line. There's nothing we HAVE to get because we HAVE to get almost everything.

So let's just hope that our scouting department is good enough to figure out who those BPAs are.
They did a good job last year.

If Carter is there I'm not trading down.
I dunno was Carter playing yesterday ? I watched a little bit of the Georgia game and didn't hear Carters name called ?
How 'bout them 'dawgs ! You guys realize that's where Jimmy Johnson picked up that expression for his NFL team, right ?

Carter made a few plays in his 1st game back from injury. Last year he was the best DT on a team that had 2 1st rd picks Davis/Wyatt that are currently doing very well this year. Yep, give me that guy.

I didn't know that. Very good trivia question.

Yea I know you like this guy Steel: hey do you like him enough to draft him before the 'Bama edge guy Anderson ?

I worked for a year for Delta in ATL back in the 90s and met a lot of Georgia grads while there and they explained to me
that they've been say "How about those Dawgs" for years at Georgia games and that's where Johnson picked up the phrase: "how about those Cowboys". Pure and simple plagiarism.

Yes

POTUS is more of an authority on this subject than I could ever be.

There’s a chance we may get 2 and 7, and the 7 spot may move into the the top 5. :breakdance:

You’d be surprised what can happen between now & then.

Zach Wilson doesn’t appear to be the answer at QB for NYJ. Looks like QB is back on the menu for them.

They could be a potential trade partner if they are willing to move on from Wilson. Doubtful that happens.

That could be two top draft picks at QB that didn’t work out from them. Darnold and Wilson.

Don’t forget Geno.

He has developed into a franchise QB but it took, several destinations, OC’s and Head Coaches to bring out.

Seattle is the biggest surprise, on good side, I didn’t see coming. They did it by trading Russel Wilson, nailing draft picks (bookend tackles and bell cow back to name a few) but it’s the reconstruction of Geno. He’s a gamer, everything you need to lead a team into the playoffs.

I take a different lesson from this- I think there are probably a lot of QBs that could succeed in a better situation (like Smith is doing). Too much energy gets wasted on finding the perfect guy, when a good enough guy in a good situation will do the trick.

Good enough will get you into the playoffs. Good enough won't win championships.

I would say Stafford, Foles, Old Manning, Eli Manning X2, Big Ben X2, and Johnson were “good enough” winners in the last 20 years.
I consider most of those to be better than good enough.

Most were 1st picks of their drafts for a reason.

Stroud or Young are very likely to be 1st overall picks, and for a reason. Does that make them better than good enough?

If Young can stay healthy I believe he can become a top tier QB. But that's not a chance I wouldn't take, given he's probably less than 6'0 and less than 200 lbs.

If we do not have to take a QB to replace meals, I want as many late round ones and early round twos as I can get.

1 and 13…

Primarily being competitive, finishing with the #1 pick, having a functional cap situation, and a somewhat exciting QB Class with QB needy teams sitting behind the Texans......this could make the draft as exciting as a playoff game......or two. I really didn't care whether the team won 1 game of 4, so long as they were competitive, even with a very incomplete team....that would be a win in my book.

So if the draft were today I like Carolina #2 trading up for Houston's #1 to get the QB they want in exchange for their #2 in 2023 and the 2nd RD in 2023 OR their #2 in 2023 and their #1 in 2024.
Why not trade with another team like Seattle or Detroit and get more pics or both and probably still get a great player with their highest pick even if that is the Cleveland pick?
