Man it has been a while since I broke out my Texans Talk Fingers.
Good to be back.

Cesario moved up before the Day 2 run on wide receivers. With the trade down with Philly, it was basically a net wash and we picked up a first round WR if not for the ACL injury. After his time in New England, we should know Cesario is very familiar with Alabama talent with the Saban/Belichick connection. I am a big fan of Metchie and feel his Ceiling and Floor is better than every other WR drafted tonight. Just one opinion, but I think Nick read the room brilliantly here and got the best talent outside of the big names that went round 1.

Metchie wasn't going in the 1st rd under any point in my opinion

The more I look at Metchie the more he reminds me of those patriot slot receivers...

To me, on film, he just looks solid upon first impression...He doesn't look extremely fast...doesn't look like he's going to make a bunch of people miss when he has the ball in the open field...

But he catches the ball well and his ability to get free off the line and his overall route running really stand out. I'm warming up to this pick more and more.

Casio Watch is doing his thing...

Please explain how Metchie doesn’t fit the first round Alabama WR mold please. No way he falls outside of 32 picks if healthy. Injuries happen, but ACL injuries are not the same now as they were 10-15 years ago.

All those guys who you mentioned were 17yds per catch or above and 4.4 guys.

When healthy Metchie ran between 4.45 and 4.5. He averaged 16.7 his sophomore year and 11.9 his junior year when Bryce Young averaged 8.8 per throw. Mac Jones averaged 11.0, and Tua averaged 10.9. If you watched a lot of Alabama games, Bryce Young did not have the deep ability this past year of his predecessors.

I see him as a solid round 2 only sorry

How did Williams avg 19 ypc? I don't think he's going to be a bust, but the offense isn't going to be explosive at all. So everything will be compressed, roll coverage to Cooks and make someone win over the top. Not to mention, he's coming off an acl. To be fair, I wanted Williams with the 13th even with a acl because he's a td waiting to happen. Metchie is a possession wr imo and from what I seen. Even another guy coming off acl Pickens is more explosive. You need speed outside in this league unless you're going to try to small ball down the field.

? I'm just saying I am not feeling the pick. And he is tiny. Pro system good thing, but the rest I don't like. My post was a simple list. The only pick I have not liked so far
By all means don't like the pick if that's how you feel, that's part of what draft day is all about. I'm just pointing out that the reasoning should matter and a sub 6 foot slot receiver ain't much of a reason.

Metchie had 13 more targets, 400 less yards, 18 more catches, and 9 less ypc.

The theme of the passes thrown his way wasn’t lost on Metchie when asked about it Oct. 19.

“Yeah, I guess from the beginning of the season I’ve been getting a lot of shorter routes,” Metchie said. “A lot of bubbles. I guess that’s just the role that I have to play. Going week-to-week whatever our game plan is, whatever the role I need to play is, that’s what I’m going to do.”
Don’t forget the OC of Bama this year. Our favorite BOb. Very defined roles for his receivers like Fuller/Hopkins. Hopkins was our chain mover and top target, but Fuller was always more explosive.

NOT saying Metchie is Hopkins, but I still hold firm no way he makes it out of the top 32 if the ACL injury didn’t happen.

Hopkins was 17 ypc in college. I have no problem with a possesion wr, they have value, but a injured one you moved up to get and with the players still available is a beyond curios to me. In NE, they had problems drafting wr's. I don't know who made those picks, but this picks kinda put it on display.

That is why I linked the article. It was “schemed” that way.

The average depth of Williams’ route on catches is 14.32 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, according to SECStatCat.com. For Metchie, that number is 7.56 yards. In the four years of the site tracking these numbers, Williams’ 14.32 is the highest among Alabama receivers while Metchie’s 7.56 is the lowest among anyone No. 2 that given season.
The junior from Canada had a much different role a season ago when Smith was a Heisman winner. Averaging 16.7 yards per catch (compared to 10.8 this year), Metchie’s 35-yard catch rate was more than double this season’s at 9.3%. He had touchdown catches of 78 and 63 yards in the Texas A&M game on deep bombs from Mac Jones…
Metchie’s longest reception of the year is the 46-yard touchdown pass he caught on the first drive of the win at Mississippi State.
Metchie had that 17 YPC you are looking for in 2020. But in 2021 they (BOb and Bryce) neutered his ability with play calls and scheme.

My least favorite pick of the draft, especially in light of the draft capital. 6 picks for two “meh” receivers in the Caserio era. Makes zero sense, less then zero sense if that’s possible.

You took a huge and unnecessary risk st 3, then you give up your mid round picks to move up to take another injury risk for a guy that doesnt have a single special quality?

Are we sure Captain Jack isnt in charge?

Made 0 sense to move up for Metchie. Pickens was there and if they stayed pat, they could've had Pickens or Pierce

Can't say I'm feeling this one. Hopefully I'm wrong, but this is the first pick (with the trade) of the Texans' draft that I truly dislike.
I'm in 100% agreement. It's the trade up that I dislike the most. If the guy doesn't make it to 68, there were other slots that would have been available there.
Ran a pro style system
Yeah, but I wouldn't call O'Brien's a good pro style system.

Here's Lance Zierlein's write up on Metchie,

The most important value Metchie brings… getting open quickly. He is going to be a reliable safety outlet for Mills. How many games did the team play last season where they couldn’t cross the 50 yard line until the second half because they couldn’t sustain drives? Metchie gives them a reliabl option to move the chains and stay on the field longer.

I agree I would have waited until 68 but they moved up to get their guy right when the run on WRs started which means their guy (Metchie) likely would have been off the board and the same people complaining about the pick would be complaining about Caserio being “out maneuvered yet again!”

Caserio is picking his guys and maneuvering the draft pretty well. That’s all I ask for at this time. We can debate semantics but I like that he is aggressive to get the people he thinks are fits for this team.

2 Caserio drafts, 6 picks given up for 2 WRs.

I do like Metchie much better than Collins though. Would he have been there at 68?
? We had 13 picks I think. We have chosen 5 and we have 5 left. Unless I’m using the wrong starting point we only gave up 3 picks net?

Maybe. If we ended up with Pickens or Sky I doubt anyone would have said anything. I don't think anyone was thinking Metchie

We have
Derek Stingley
Kenyon Green
Jalen Pitre
John Metchie
Christian Harris.
I believe we still have 6 left, but that will change as NC will try to move up for better prospects.
Nice that we still have chips to do that at this point.

Moving up for better prospects is the best thing to do with so much draft capital behind us.
I would have been disappointed if he just sat back with all those picks and did nothing. Getting those three extra picks for Green will reap dividends now. Will be interesting to see who he targets.

We started the draft with 10 picks after the trade with NE before the draft. I like all the picks but not the value, especially for Green and Metchie - I just think we could have done better. And we still need edge and RB.
I have no doubt that Nick will use the later round picks to move up to approximately 150. We will come out of the draft with 7 or 8 players.
I was hoping for a draft more like the Jets, who are nailing it.

I like Metchie, very productive and the type of slot guy I would expect Caserio to pick,

With this said, I wish Caserio would stop picking guys coming off of serious injury. How is Metchie's rehab coming along?
They say that he should be able to return by June.............6 months post repair. I'd say that would be pushing things too fast...........that's when bad things happen.

Again, a WR post ACL where studies show an expected drop in performance and longevity.

I will post a scarier statistic about players and ACLs in the Injury Thread shortly.

Nick in the presser said dont listen to Metchie, he will play when ready. Was good to hear there is no push for the kid even though he says ready to go in July
