All encompassing 2022 draft thoughts thread

watching fans get hype over prospect visits is funny as hell to me. I don't think it has any bearing whatsoever on who they really like as Most of these teams are already settled on the grades for these guys..especially this close to the draft. I think Most of these visits are just to prepare themselves for trade scenarios.......... ...& for some of the local guys that a lowly team scout has talked the GM into taking a look at to consider as a very late flyer and/or post-draft signee for the practice squad...You can tell by the names on the visits list. Most of those guys are off brand.... or guys who several teams have been rumored to either be in love enough with to trade up to get if they slip even a little (Sauce, Hutchison, Walker) or have fallen quite a bit but maybe not quite enough (Stingley, Hamilton, Thibodueax).

Nope, I got you on the the injury part with Kevin Johnson, but you don't draft a corner because he's a good tackler. Thats what your dl and lb's are primarily for. You draft a cb in the top half of the draft to cover wr's. Its not different than drafting a wr to block. Nobody care Tyreke can't block do they? At 6'3 190 is big enough to tackle other wr's and 200 lbs rb's with good pad level. A 6'3 pro pospect is different than a 6'3 regular dude walking around the street.
You really are prepared to try to compare him with NFL CBs like Deion and Revis?

And, of course you ignored the main point of my post...........Kevin Johnson's college non-injury history.

I guess my question is, will all 32 teams need a team of P.I.'s scattered across the country? Or will the NFL do this on a collective basis?

Looks like the answer to question #2 is no. At least not adequately. I've already penciled Wyatt in as one of the Cowboys 4 5th round picks.
He's not going to fall that far. Those teams aren't running from that especially if they think he's a probowl caliber player.

I bet they mix it up else a team figures out a pattern and guess who they're taking.
Most teams probably have it down to a 75% probability.
Sure they do. They also can't draft everyone they bring in. Still, teams are running their own mocks as we speak. There aren't a ton of surprises on draft day.

We'll see. I will say that's a pretty bold statement considering a total lack of knowledge of the accusations. Unless you know something we don't.
Besides the character thing, I'd be just as worried of taking him in the first round just based on the fact that he has no proven pass rush experience/skills...........he was always taken out during passing plays.

Its the nfl. They tend to overlook things if it can really benefit them. He will probably got to KC or teams like that who draft talented football players regardless of accusations

I can already see members complaining about Easterby and the Calhouns on draft night when the Texans don’t draft Wyatt and his teammate accused of rape Adam Anderson (along with the 31 other teams allowing them to fall further than their talent indicates they should be drafted).

Texans current depth chart shows a low personnel situation at DT. Getting Davis and Ridgeway certainly adds some top notch talent at a position of need but a couple of guys who could be outstanding at crushing the run and potentially being able to get after the QB…..could see that coming more from Davis. Both could be disruptive in the passing game by getting those long limbs up in the air and forcing QB’s to throw around their big mitts. As for their size…..as long as they can move and do the job they’re asked to do, I doubt Lovie has any concerns as to what size those athletes come in.

Lovie has been around long enough to show a preference. And I haven’t seen any large NTs on the prospect visit list. I have seen Thomas Booker (6’3” 302) and Logan Hall (6’6” 285 can play DE or DT).

Also DE is the far greater concern with Texans feeling good about Collins (recently re-signed), Blacklock (recent 2nd round pick) and Lopez. And their prospect visits show that as well with far greater time spent scouting the DEs in the early and mid-late rounds.

Hall is interesting as a lde or sub package dt.

I’m with you on Lopez. I think he’s going to have a nice 2022 season, now that he’s got an NFL season under his belt. I’m not sold on Blacklock b/c he’s failed to play up to his potential. I also liked the Collins signing and what he brought to the DL last season. He should be even better this season now that he’s had a season in Lovie’s defense.

I still like the idea of adding DE Cameron Thomas (SDSU) to the DL. A solid “get after the QB” type.

I would swap out the Ridgeway pick for a MLB.

Your article is dated 2 days ago. But it's amazing how this Lions website 3 days ago conveniently entirely leaves out his ongoing Oct 2021 rape charge while pointing that his 2020 assault charges were eventually dropped and that Wyatt is just caught up in pre-Draft disinformation.

NFL mock draft: Detroit Lions select Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia
After drafting two Georgia defenders in the first round of the POD community mock draft, the Detroit Lions grab a third at the top of round two.

Devonte Wyatt’s 2020 arrest

First, I want to address some exaggerated reports I have seen about Wyatt’s off-the-field character stemming from a 2020 arrest. These potential issues have been brought up on a few draft websites, as well as by POD readers in our comment section.

In February of 2020, Wyatt and a female companion were allegedly in a verbal argument on Georgia's campus that escalated to a point that he kicked open an exterior door, causing damage. The police were called and the end result was three misdemeanor charges assigned to Wyatt: “family violence, criminal trespass, and damage to property, according to the Clarke County Sherriff's website”, via the Athens Banner-Herald.

All three charges were dismissed a few months later, and the following statement from the prosecution was given to the Athens Banner-Herald:
“After carefully reviewing the evidence and consulting with the alleged victim, we decided to dismiss the case in the interests of justice,” Athens-Clarke County Solicitor General C.R. Chisholm said Friday via email to the Athens Banner-Herald.
These recent reports offer a reminder to readers to be sure they are reading trusted sources rather than draft websites moving too quickly without gathering all the information.

For example, in this case alone, it was reported that Wyatt had multiple incidents of violence against his family, including assaults. But in reality, he had one alleged incident with multiple (three) charges (all dismissed). One of which was elevated to “family violence” because the female involved had lived with Wyatt on and off, and there were no assault charges filed.

Additionally, one website claims to have spoken with an NFL general manager, who told them that Wyatt’s character red flags were enough to take him off their board. Maybe that is true. But as noted in this past weekend’s mock draft roundup, it’s lying season in the NFL and teams are often putting out false information with the hopes of creating a situation that benefits their team. There is no motivation for teams to tell the truth this time of year, so these reports need to be questioned as much as they are to be believed.
*************************************************************************************************************

Because the charges of the 2020 incident were dropped by no means negates his character issues..........we should have already been made to understand this by our very own recent example very close to home.

You know what's even more amazing? That he was playing college football. It just goes to show anyone that when it comes to winning something, that's all that matters.

If you are not charged you are innocent.

Signed,

Deshaun Watson
That's not what I was inferring.

I read that 3 charges were filled on a single incident when he kicked his gf's door in. When the police showed up Wyatt and his girlfriend had already made up and were walking out of the building together.

A little bit different situation than 22 women charging Derrick with sexual assault.

I’m not sold on Blacklock b/c he’s failed to play up to his potential.
It was a bad sign when O'Brien didn't put Blacklock on the field after using the 2nd in the Hopkins trade to draft him. This season, Blacklock will have his 3rd d-line coach in 3 seasons (Jacques Cesaire '22, Bobby King '21, Anthony Weaver '20). 3rd time's the charm or 3rd strike for Blacklock?

He plays faster than his 40 time. He’s 6’4. You can’t compare him to some of the 6’0 guys that are 20-30lbs lighter than him.
So I dunno using that logic would a 6'8" 260 lb safety unable to break 5.0 in the 40 even if he's faster than his 40 time
also be a top prospect ?
Hamilton is just slow, much too slow to be drafted at 3 overall ! What's gonna happen when and if he's matched against a 4.4 WR ?

I didn’t say I would draft him 3rd overall. But I do think he would be a great addition at 13 if he was still around

Are the Texans considering drafting Gardner at #3? Or are they trying to entice a team (Giants, Seahawks) to move up for Sauce?

Guess we'll find out next week.

To me the pick at 3 is a combo of talent and what the team can get in later rounds.

This draft is deep at DE and CB. Not so much on QUALITY DAY 1 STARTING OL.

To me it's about drafting a cornerstone type of player. A player who will be a great player for the next decade. I really don't care too much about what position this player plays.

For me….3- OL, 1- TE, 2- DL, 1- S, and 1- LB…..8 players in the trenches would be excellent.
