And Caserio can't threaten to keep Watson on the roster and pay him $35 million to not play. Mutual self destruction keeps Caserio from playing that card.

It shouldn't be an issue. Watson should be able to find a team Caserio can deal with.
Caserio got a few days left to bluff.

Free Agency is about to start & he’s got $16M to play with.

If I was Caserio I would get a deal in place, then tell Derrick where I'm going to trade him. Then tell him if he doesn't waive the NTC that he will not be paid anyways because of a suspension. So keeping him on Kirby is no sweat off Caserio's back. This will tell Caserio how badly Derrick wants to play ball next year.

I had a thought out lengthy reply but deleted somehow. sigh. Will try again.
I like Moore but do not see him hanging around after this 5th season when he can grab $ in off season. Burns? Now you talking; I looked at him last year as a possible trade & would not only take him but try to extend during the later part of 2023 to avoid his 5th year costs.

Chinn is a must! I compare him favorably to Hamilton and he has a year in NFL so know what we get. Combine He posted 41-inch vertical jump and a 138-inch broad jump to go with a 4.45-second 40-yard dash. Chinn also did 20 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press.

My position: Burns, Chinn, Moore +1.6 plus round 1 in 2023 and 2024.
THIS ALL DAY.
Please let that trade happen.
Then go offense in the draft.

And that's where Nick has the leverage. Leverage against the team that gets the green light to trade for Watson. That team will feel the urgency to make the deal ASAP in order to restructure contracts and still do what they need to do in free agency.

Agreed

It’s a huge oversight that there wasn’t wording in the contract that meant it was waived upon the player requesting a trade.

Another wording that would have helped would be for future bonuses to be contingent on loyalty.

IE, you request a trade and you remove a chunk of guarantees from your contract, meaning that as a team we now don’t lose this massive cap hit to trade you.

But it seems like the balance of power has shifted somewhat, if Watson wants to get back on the field, and also with the QB market having been moved on a step, he has reason to work with the Texans to some extent to get there.
I think DW release of NTC will depend on if teams like Giants and Jets are interested.

I don’t think the league will take any action. Why would they? There will be no criminal charges, it’s as if he did nothing wrong.

The civil suits are going to play out as disagreements between consenting adults. Accusations of rape are going to be deemed “baseless”.

We’ll pay more attention to the trials than anyone else.
The bar for League player discipline is very much lower than the requirements for being placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List.

Irrelevant. 18 months or so now & Watson obviously hasn’t crossed the threshold.

Unless something new is uncovered…. eh

Then go offense in the draft.

They will be willing to trade Chinn

They are willing to trade anybody but Burns.

Give me Brown/Chinn/Henderson and #6. Plus a 2023 1st/2nd.

Draft Walker in the 1st at #3 and Sauce at #6. Then draft ol/skill positions for the rest of the draft.

Imagine a draft that looks like this and this is certainly possible,

Rd.1 Walker
Rd.1 Sauce
Rd.2 Green
Rd. 3. Salyer
Rd.3 Pierce
Rd. 4 Jelani Woods

From everything I've seen since Lovie has been hired, this is Lovie's team. From the Caserio interviews I've watched after Lovie was hired IMO Caserio appears resolved to doing what he did in New England, orchestrate the scouting department and scouting reports. Preparing them for Lovie and his staff review. Caserio appeared OK with this because this is what he knows. Nick is an administrator. He is not a manager. Lovie and his staff make decisions on FA and draft picks and Caserio will be responsible for making it happen. IMHO.
I liked what Caserio did last year in the draft, he found talent in the later rounds. I don't know what Lovie will do or what his track record is. Caserio runs the scouting dept. so he should/will be the one with the insight.
I hope they sit down as a group and come to a consensus on an agreed upon draft board and possible trade downs.

Panthers............they could drop their offers down significantly.
This is what Caserio is trying to avoid. He is trying to get Watson and multiple teams to commit to a known bidding war for his services. I don’t believe Watson gets traded if he tells Caserio there is only 1 team he will go to and thus Texans have no leverage against said team. That’s where I put my foot down and tell him kick rocks we or the NFL will just sue and suspend you. We are getting a massive haul for you period. But again wouldn’t be surprised if the Texans screw this up like JJ, Clowney or Hopkins and take a late first, second and a couple of so so players lol.

This is interesting as hell to me. If anybody cares to chime in, are y’all reading this as Caserio requesting Deshaun to completely waive his NTC altogether? Or for any particular team before even negotiating?
Yeah why doesn’t the NFL just tell him that they won’t suspend him but the ball is in his court as he always wanted it. The Texans, in partnership with the NFL have offered you a contract and you accepted it within the terms of the contract. If you won’t honor your contract fine but the Texans can suspend you without pay…breach of contract. Your contract never gave you the future right to choose your GM and HC. if you want to get paid in the next few years it’s up to you. Agree to any trade they make otherwise sit for a few years. you can sit on your NTC but at your expense. Bye bye.

Why would the NFL do that? You seem to forget Goodell works for all the owners so while it may screw over the Texans it helps another team and therefore another of his bosses. It’s why the NFL rarely jumps in on trades between teams.

Also he’s not in breach of contract. His contract says he has a NTC so if he doesn’t want traded then that’s within his contract. At that point if I’m the Texans I make him play.

The Texans can't force him to play if he has an "injury" of some sort. Unless the NFL takes action against him he'll keep getting paid whether he's playing or not.

Disagree. Will see how he fares against the Personal Conduct Policy.
This entire sordid affair is so unprecedented. I could see Goodell giving him a 10 game suspension, he appeals on the basis that he sat out 17 games and a year of his career.
After the appeal, he gets suspended for 4-6 games and the NFL spins it that he was suspended for the equivalent of 22 games. One for each civil case.

Are we talking gunpoint?
Before pushing the matter, you hire an investigator to record his off field activities. You inform him he's going to start and you film his on field activities as well as continue filming his off field activities. If he refuses, he'll be in breach of contract. If he feigns injury, you send him to a specialist. You then sue him for breach of contract. Bottom line, you play hardball until he agrees to a trade.

But you can haul his *** into court.

For what? If he's got a tummy ache and can't play, they can send him to a thousand specialists and they'll never find anything. Like me, they'll just say "oh, guess what, you got IBS. We don't know what that is, but since we can't find otherwise a damn thing wrong with you, that's what we'll call it". Injuries can be feigned and will be gotten away with. There's nothing the Texans can do except get rid of his ass or pay him, one of the two.

Your thoughts (or anyone's) on 1.6 if this were to occur? Draft or trade down? I like many guys in mid round one and upper half round two.
Well, I still say go all out on offense for Mills.
3 OT NEAL OR EKWONU
6 CB AHMAD GARDNER
37 WR GEORGE PICKENS
68 RB KENNETH WALKER III

Build an offense for Mills. If he doesn’t excel and grow with these guys, we have a ready made offense for the next QB.

Draft defense the rest of the way with Burns and Chinn as the centerpieces in your scenario.

I believe a suspension is without pay. He was paid for those 17 games. So, they should not count.
