Head Coach Candidate (Lovie Smith Hired) 2/7/22

Maybe the Texans want to be the first team to hire a black woman as HC, but no black women have scheduled interviews?

Mulaghetto’s clients all have that “I’m a star” type personality and are full of themselves. I hope we don’t hire any more of his clients ever again!

Looks like MulaGhetto is back pedaling now. All we heard for months was that his two clients, Watson and Flores, had been in constant communication coming up with a way to get signed ti the same team, and now they don’t even have each other’s phone numbers? I call bullsiht! I hope Caserio goes after them and whichever team signs them will have to cough up some draft picks!

Uhhhh. Ok?

it's a mystery

My ethnicity is also a mystery. :boxing:

I'll wager your father was a witch doctor from the north sentinelese island who stowed away on a cargo ship and your mother sold trinkets in a South American harbor city.

Anyway.

The Texans next hc?

I really don’t want my HC this involved in the offense. Rather he hires a guy to take care of this kind of thing.

That’s the ONLY saving grace I cold see about a McCown hire is if they keep a Lovie as DC maybe hire Pep as OC or an even better OC if one is out there and McCown focuses on just clock and game management. Not saying it would work or it’s a good plan but it’s the only chance I see.

If this hire happens it really shows the arrogance of Cal. He has no clue other than making this game about selling culture. Several young potential coaches with coordinator positions available and this guy is a finalist?. Not to mention all the drama and laughter craziness from last off-season & Cal wants to create more stupidity in considering this hire. SNL is Ready to jump all over this…

I don't know how you sale a locker room or any free agent on a guy like this.

Way off but A for effort. I say the next HC will be O’Connell or Gannon. At least I hope one of them will be the next HC.

How do half the coaches on the team with a dozen plus years of experience buy into a boss like McCown? He'd need to be exceedingly charismatic and that should be obvious in any interview.

Execuse me a minute while I look for youtube McCown videos...

LOL! I was going say the same thing. Since this coach is going to stand on the sidelines giving high-fives and taking care of all the butt patting while Caserio handles the game, hire one of those female sideline reporters as HC! That oughta make a splash around the league. Last one I remember was Jane Kennedy (I just dated myself!) but I'm sure they have some newer ones down there.

Is this still the official hc thread or do you 2 actually have names in mind?

At this point we might as well let Caserio grab the clipboard and be the HC. Feels like thats the natural fit. Nick loves to play toss, be on the headset, control, etc. let Jack be the “get back guy” and hand out Gatorade. A heavenly fit all around.

Considering the Texans job opening and our current candidate pool, I'm not sure it matters but I'll ask anyway...

Why does she qualify to be a head coach?
She can breath and chew gum at the same time and she's been around football longer than McCown.

It’s called money, and if they actually start to win then the locker room will fall in line. Pretty much every player that played for the Patriots hated it and the “Patriot way” yet expel took less money to play there. Hey because they were winning and it was their best shot at a ring.

I dont know if Josh would be a good idea here. I have zero to base that on. I just wish he would get some run as an OC or another type of coach before getting the HC

Here are the public approval ratings for each known Texans head coach candidate survey by 610 Radio. There may be other candidates not covered in this survey. This just goes to show that this forum is a pretty good indication how the fans in Houston feel. At least the fans that listen to 610 sports radio. You can read the entire article here.

JONATHAN GANNON, Philadelphia Eagles DC (interviewed 1/18) - Yes: 39.6% | No: 60.4% | Votes Cast: 979

thats not public approval ratings, that’s a damn Twitter poll.

I can call plays too. Doesn’t mean I should.
Your asking why it matters if some back up QB who’s never set foot on any field in any capacity as a coach of any kind should be calling plays for an NFL team?
It’s laughably stupid.
And McClowns playing career isn’t something to be bragging about either. He’s a career backup.
This is absolutely idiotic if he’s hired, and is indicative of the moron owners and their personal views and clearly has nothing to do with experience or coaching as he has zero experience in both.
Not saying I think Josh should be the pick, but probably don't need to call a 20 year NFL player who played with a hamstring off the bone Mcclown. It ain't his fault someone is offering him a job with no experience, so let's use the fun names on Cal and Casserio if we all need to vent. On his playing career, most coaches in the NFL were crappy players. They could not cut it, so Josh used his marginal talent to stick around for 20 years, I see that as a positive to build his knowledge, network, and respect of many players. I think those lower talent guys know the game well and better than some guys that are uber talented who get away with less effort. Probably sounds like I am defending him or the pick, I am not, just wanted to add .02 and refocus the vile at Tommy Boy

As opposed to what, a phone or online poll? It is not meant as gospel truth. Just something that I found interesting.

it wasn’t intended as a criticism toward you as much as the typical media approach of throwing something up on social media and acting like the results have any meaningful, scientific value.

as for this potential hire, I have no clue why they would drag out a hire of McCown so if they want him they should just pull the trigger (as obscene as I find it). Makes me think they are still waiting to see if Flores gets the NO gig.

So first they overpay. Then, they underpay. Presto! Championships. :trophy::trophy::trophy::trophy::trophy::trophy:

You’re right that it’s the mediocre players that usually make the better coaches. But even those guys get some experience before getting the top coaching position there is. McCown has never done the grind, the loooong hours, of being a coach at any capacity. And he could potentially be going straight to head coach where he’s not only in charge of it all, but has to do all the media stuff as well, press conferences, and all of that jazz?

Not to mention McCown reportedly turned down an opportunity to get some experience last year.

If the Texans go this route, Cal simply doesn’t give a **** more than we already don’t think he does.

Not sure what you are talking about, during the golden era of Brady Patriots never overpaid and in fact cut or traded a lot of guys while they still had value. Having the GOAT in his prime let’s you do things like that.

Ok I think I see what's going on here, because when it comes to Cal & Janice I beleive there's a method to their madness.
You know we are supposed to stay away from politics but I need to brush by the subject to explain what I think the McNairs are up to.
You all know we very recently had a person hold very high political office in our country who absolutely no prior experience politically speaking
in public office. Now you see what that sly River Oaks twosome is doing.
They found a person with absolutely no coaching experience to coach, to operate their NFL franchise, but NP,
because at the end of the season when the Texans have performed miserably and built up a losing record coach McCowan with a rabid crowd of Texans fans
in tow will protest the very credibility of the leagues final standings which show the Houston Texans in last place in the AFC South.
And you really thought that Cal and his mommy didn't have a plan ?

Ok, so the plan is:

Phase 1 - Get GOAT QB
Phase 2 - ?
Phase 3 - :trophy:

Was just given this info: Caserio has been trying to broker a package deal for Gannon as HC and McCown or Kevin O'Connell as OC. Maybe AHC titles, too.

Not sure it'll work. Not sure how Gannon works with Lovie (who Cal wants to keep)... very different mindsets.

Something I could get behind more so than anything else I’ve heard out of them recently. Though I still don’t like that the inexperience of McCown is still in the mix.

Of course, do any AHC titles mean that Gannon is short lived as HC? If so, why even bring him in, and more importantly, why would he take the job?

Not sure how Gannon agrees to an OC who has never coached and is being pushed hard as the next HC by a senior member of the organization.

If O Connell is the OC at the Rams, and going on HC interviews why would he leave the Rams who may have him under contract to just be an OC with a vastly less talented team. Doesn’t make sense.

It doesn't make sense. But, it seems like Caserio is at least trying to stop Jack from engineering the McCown fiasco.

Who wins this battle of wills?

Not sure how it’ll workout as I just don’t see why Kevin O’Connell would make a lateral move from a awesome team to a shiat team. O’Connell and Gannon are my top two candidates for the HC gig, so I’d be ecstatic if Caserio managed to hire both guys! I just don’t see it happening. I guess the money and the Assistant HC title could make it happen? Hmmm, loving this.

Maybe there was a typo.

Maybe it’s with Gannon or O’Connell as HC with MCCown as OC with the assistant HC title.

I’ve always called him McClown and will continue to.
And your grasping desperately.
He has no business in any capacity as a HC and it’s a laughably bad take.

I thought Josh McDaniels was a given??? A done deal! If not Josh, then Mayo was supposed to be in the house. What the heck is going on out there? Was this a double case of thanks but no thanks?
