Texans random thought of the day

I really don't get the the obsession or inferiority complex among certain Texans' fans that they feel the need to continuously pull from the Patriots staff? When has that worked for any other team besides the Patriots? They make it seems that the only way to win in the NFL is with former Patriots.
It's pretty hard to ignore a successful franchise.
Wanting a piece of it is not a difficult concept to grasp.

But, that successful franchise had arguably the greatest HC and QB in NFL history. If you don't have the HC and/or the QB, what's the point? Again. If that success it's not a difficult concept to grasp or is so easy to achieve, tell me why it has not worked for other franchises.

Never. Ever.

Ignoring history is apparently easy to do.
More than anything. It smells of desperation, laziness and a lack of vision and leadership. Instead of putting in the work to build your team, you're constantly trying to take shortcuts to mimic the Patriots. I'm tired of these ex Patriots and their pointless reference to culture and the unnecessary glossing over the lack of production from these ex Pats.

Yes, we saw that with O'Brien for sure, but he was a dictator.
Mcdaniels was certainly trending towards dictator status in his short time with Denver. He quickly alienated Jay Cutler who demanded a trade when reports prematurely came out that Cutler was on the market pripr to anyone telling Cutler. Ownership tried to mend fences but the damage was done and Cutler said he did not trust McD and would not play for him. This led to them having to settle for Kyle Orton for bulk of Mcdaniels’ time as coach.

He also helped ship Brandon Marshall, at the time one of the top young WRs in the game out of town. Marshall was admittedly an immature headache TO-light player.

The Broncos got a pair of 1st and 2nds and one 3rd for two of their core players. But McDaniels wasn’t around long enough to get to take advantage of that draft capital.

Being an older wiser coach now one would think he could handle locker room dynamics outside the Patriots better.

What lack of production are you talking about? Burkhead or Amendola?

Now the truth is coming out. Hate of all things Foxboro before Caserio even gets a chance to get his vision in place. I dont know what Caserio's is or if it's going to work. But I'm willing to give the guy a chance to get his people in place before I start to make that judgement. I do know I liked the Collins/Jordan/Lopez draft seeing as how Caserio didn't have his 1st/2nd rd picks.

I can’t think of any Texans fan that believe as you say. In fact, the one here suggesting McDaniels will make a good HC isn’t suggesting McDaniels comes here.

I think McDaniels will do a good job on his next HC gig if it’s not New England. I think New England will continue to dig a hole for themselves if they keep chasing what they used to have

Which one of those guys were former college graduate assistants with little to no NFL experience who were hired by the Patriots?
I would say as organizational leaders Robinson/Dimitroff/Newsome had very little experience. Newsome said Belichick trained him.

Texans have been talking culture from day one. That’s why David Carr was the first pick ever.

Texans obsession with culture is what is bringing the Patriots to Houston. Not the exPatriots bringing the culture

Vrabel says hi.
Never a Patriot coach. Newsome was never in the Patriot org. Why don't you include Brady while you're at it?

Newsome built that Ravens SB roster from scratch. Two leftovers from the Belichick days (DE Rob Burnett and Mat Stover, the kicker). Why are we giving Belichick credit for Newsome's success?

Start listing the ex-Pats failures. It's going to take awhile, I don't expect you to finish before Wednesday.

True,

But now that Belichick has found his QB the Pats should be good for atleast 5 more yrs. They currently have the 2nd best record in the AFC. Those that said it was all Brady are wrong. New England isn't going anywhere. This isn't saying the Pats are going to win the SB this yr. I do believe that Jones will end up being the best QB in this class and McDaniels has done a fantastic job developing Jones.

Before getting with Belichick, Dimitroff was a scout in the CFL and NFL. Before becoming the Titans GM, Robinson was Director of player personnel with the Bucs. Newsome learned just as much from Belichick as he did from Ernie Accorsi.

My point is the guys you are mentioning had other experiences and influences besides what they learned from Belichick and the Patriots. It just feels like you are wishing for the Texans to duplicate the Patriots success without Brady or Belichick.

IMHO, while the Texans have been fiddling around with becoming Patriots South, they have missed out on Shanahan, McVeigh, LaFleur and others.

I'd like to hear Culley's version, but we know that won't happen.
After the Texans' 21-14 loss to the Jets, Culley didn't want to discuss details of the incident.

"It was my decision," Culley said. "We'll keep that internal."
From the Chronic

Has anyone noticed the guys the Texans have had issues with (Roby, Omenihu, Cunningham, King, Reid) are on the defense? Is this a fractured squad? Has the defense turned on Culley?

We're giving BB credit because Newsome himself said BB trained Newsome and Newsome learned how to become a GM under BB's tuteladge. This isn't hard to understand. As far as the failures go I would say Pioli/Quinn were the only GM failures.

Exactly what have the guys you've listed won. Other than BOB hire and RAc/Vrabel there really hasn't been any other coaches on staff. The true problem with the Texans since their inception is they haven't had a GM who could evaluate talent outside of the 1st rd. Caserio's last draft gives me hope that this may be changing.

I'm sure Newsome learned some things during that time in Cleveland. Belichick learned things, too. He did a crap job as GM there.

The question is: Why hasn't the Patriot Way been successfully exported? That's the Patriots 2000-now. Belichick has trained many, many coaches who have tried to transfer that success to other organizations. Where's the results? The Belichick tree is fruitless, unlike the Walsh tree.

Seems like a bunch of the old BOB guys.

But, yes, I think today is the final day before Culley starts to lose his team and that's not a bad thing.

Is Vrabel from the O’Brien tree?

I hoped (when they brought Caserio here) that Caserio would be eager to do things his way & not try to copy what’s been done in New England.

We’re not New England & we never will be.

Sadly, so far that’s all we’ve seen.

Sadly the File Clerk way is the Patriots way. It's the only thing Nick knows. He has been baptized, indoctrinated, programmed, brainwashed, socialized in all things Patriots and nothing else.

Again, King is not an ex player from the O'Brien regime. And I don't think these guys were loyal to O'Brien, anyway.

Wasn't the whole idea around hiring Culley about building chemistry? Let the coaches coach, and Culley would be the guy to glue everyone together? Well, that's not happening. Is it a big deal in 2022? Considering most of this roster is gonzo, maybe not. But, when is the good karma going to show up? Do we need more Jack in the locker room?

Again? Please make it stop. You've been schooled several times on Vrabel and Robinson. Vrabel was never a Belichick admin and Robinson's record is disappointing at best.
I've been schooled in what happens when there is bias. Dimitroff/Robinson/Vrabel made it to SB's/AFCCG's. That's what I learned in NFL school.

Exactly what has he done so far that's the Patriot Way?

We dont know what he will do in the draft really, but he certainly didn't do Patriot like things when he traded picks to move up and pick Collins. Did he do any lasting damage losing a 5th rd pick for starting level WR or a bunch of late rd pick swaps? Did he really damage the franchise by extending the leaders he wants on HIS team? (Cooks/Tunsil) Unless you think the Texans will be playoff contenders before 2024. LMAO

In short, Caserio has done very little like the Patriot way except keep around leaders he wants the young guys to learn from. He also has done no damage to the franchise at this point. What he does over the next 2-3 yrs is what Caserio should be judged by, of course your minds already been made up and isn't going to be changed.

King is the exception and there's a reason a 2019 pro bowler was on the market for so long. Bottom line is these are the guys who haven't bought in and I wouldn't expect them to be on the team next yr. Gotta take out the trash and then build the team. This year was the taking out the trash and tank yr. Not that they were trying to lose on purpose.

You brought up Newsome, but then you don't acknowledge the Vrabel/Myer connection.

Why?

And how did Belichik train Newsome?
He was just a HC.

Accorsi had been the Browns' Executive VP of Op and GM for 8 years before he hired Belichik as the HC and retained Newsome in the FO.

He was the one that trained Newsome on how to be a GM.

And after Ohio State, Vrabel came to the Texans to learn from RC.
The only thing he may have learned from OB is how NOT to be a poor HC.
He knows well enough to sracth the EP system and instead employed the WCO with the Titans .

They have played solid in most of the games this season. But Culley and that offense on the other hand. Good grief they couldn't even get past the 50 yard line in the second half against the freaking Jets. And I'm sure they're questioning why they changed the offensive line up.

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
There is a misconception that McDaniels is a great play caller. Make no mistake that Belichick is in Josh's ear telling McDaniels what he wants done. There is pregame meetings and planning where Belichick directs and instructs McDaniels on the game plan that Belichick wants called. So occasionally McDaniels may ask Belichick if he wants fries with that order.
I cannot agree with this insight. McDaniels has been on the job long enough and enjoyed enough success that I’m 100% certain Belichick has no problem letting him run the show offensively.

If this were not the case, McDaniels would be looking at his exit strategy where he could become his own man…..and it wouldn’t necessarily have to be as a HC. As I stated, since that isn’t the case and based on the money the Pats are paying him to stay around…..they and Belichick see him as the heir apparent.

This season, McDaniels has proven with Mac Jones that he can get QB’s ready for the NFL.

Solid in most of the games? Really?

They've given up the 6th most points, 4th most yards, 2nd most rushing yards, and 2nd most 1st downs. Their only saving Grace is turnovers and the fact that the offense is that much worse and taking a lot of the heat off of them.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
I don’t see much chance of moving away from the Belichick coaching tree anytime soon given where this franchise is at.
I like what Klint is doing with Cousins in Minnesota. Could happily fast track him on board and hope that Gary would come along for the ride in an advisory role. Keep Lovie at DC and we’d be looking much better.
But there is zero chance of moving away from the EP offense right now, it seems that even Culley didn’t have the power to install his own O here.

I think a lot of this board was done with anything Patriots related after a few years into OBs tenure. There were the letterman jackets, the Mallett trade, the Garapolo heist, the OB “death by a thousand cuts” torture, the Caserio ransom, and the clear evidence that there is a lack of success from anything coming out of New England not named Brady. And then we are stuck with the Preacher.

I know I was tired of anything Patriot related and wanted a different GM. Namely Dorsey. Seeing what he did with the Chiefs and Browns it should have been a no brainer.

I think we need a two-three years before making judgment this isn’t going to work Caserio.

The odds are with someone to predict and be on the side failure. That’s the easy way.

I think Josh McDaniels is very good at doing exactly what Bill Belichick wants him to do. If he wasn't that would be his exit strategy. I'm not naive enough to think Belichick has no say in the game plan or how he wants the Patriots to attack the opposing defenses. I'm not sure many have stubbed their toe as bad as McDaniels did in Denver. They couldn't get rid of him fast enough.

That's the point it isn't the Patriot Way.

Those guys were added as backups/leaders for the young guys.
If they were drafted by the Patriots, that's the Patriots way. (Caserio traded for Cannon when he was going to be cut). What is also the Patriots way is Bob Kraft spending $159MM in FA to clean house, rectify and overhaul the roster the previous Director of Player Personnel (File Clerk) put in place. What is also the Patriots way is the GOAT, Tom Brady despite all of his previous successes' bails on the Patriots because the talent level has gotten so bad, they can't win.
