Cal in Casserio's announce said Easterby's role is what NC wants it to be, so I do not believe he has power over NC structurally. Maybe he can influence him with his twisted tongue, but NC wins a power struggle here according to Cal.

Just to discuss, if Jack is number two should he not hire or at least approve everyone 3 and below?
He shouldn't be number 2 under any circumstances. Just like he shouldn't have been helping negotiate contracts or being the interim gm when the other gm/coach got fired. You know who should've been interim gm? The pro personel guy. Know why? Before the trade deadline last, maybe move expiring contracts for players. Who would know more about personel, Jack or the pro personel guy? This web is thick and full of mirrors. As stated in another post, anytime someone ask about Jacks role, nobody can define it. Remember the soliloquy Jack have after Watson signed his contract, but Watson said he really didn't know Esterby? Then when the SI article came out, AJ80 posted on social media about him by name, he disappeared. No words, no goofy speeches.

Jack. Why else would David Johnson, Rex Burkhead, and Danny Amendola be on this roster?
It's called veteran leadership. You need this in a rebuild. Even though DJ should've been cut after choosing not toblock the blitzing S. That sets a bad example for the young guys.

There were only 5 rookies. Didn’t need 40 vets to provide leadership. All those guys (including Cannon) were here because they were friends of Easterby and or Caserio.

Many of these veterans are on one year contracts. Once they leave, does their leadership linger in the halls of NRG? With the penalties, sacks and poor play, I'm still waiting on that veteran leadership to kick in.

I am not going to pretend to know what the plan is but the only guesses I have are:

1. culture
2. Comp picks (maybe?)
3. Veteran leadership
4. So many holes
5. Not enough draft picks

We have two trusted and well-known posters who have inside sources to Texans so why don't we ask them if they have heard anything about cal McNair having either an alcohol issue or being considered to be replaced?
I totally agree with you. I am not the one making the accusation. I am providing the only Twitter twat I could find. Doesn’t look reputable to me. That’s why it’s a sarcastic “dude trust me” kind of remark. The same kind of info you find out from your buddy who says the world is flat.

Ask @Texian He is the one making the accusation. In his words - he saw it on Twitter from a “reputable” source.

I dont think Amendola has played badly. Neither has Burkhead. I'm pretty sure these guys can be valuable as mentors to guys like Phillips/Collins etc....

Or maybe Caserio wants players that can teach the young guys how the Pats train/play/off field stuff?

That first and second he traded away?
Because only picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds can make a team. Got it.

They've barely played. When Burkhead did play, he sucked.

So we are another iteration of Patriot South? We should have hired more Patriot coaches, I guess. At least we have Caserio and Easterby.

If there's one thing I hope Caserio brought with him from NE......the ability to manipulate the draft in the Texans favor. Oh, and before anyone points at 2021.....that was his mulligan draft, even though he had a nice draft with an even higher score available when the 2022 season is complete and we can see how the 2021 picks developed.

Yes, they're going to do things the way the Pats do them. Hopefully that includes after the rebuild that means the end of Not Texans Worthy.

You don't believe that for a second.
If this is the case, then the Texans will never have a winner as long as the McNair's own the team. I said this in 2010.

I was hoping after Bob McNair died things would change.

They have. For the worse.
I agree things are worse but it doesn’t have to do with ownership.

It has to do with a QB who is under investigation and going to court for sexually assaulting 20+ women. A qb who demanded a trade months after signing a new contract.

WHAT? Burkhead has 7 carries for 29 yard and 14 of the 29 yards came on one carry. Amendola is averaging 8 yards per catch. This is either schtick or you have really bought into the process. What have you done to Steelb?

Watson's actions were the nail in the coffin. This was already a dead team walking. And that had everything to do with what Kyle has been responsible for.

That QB didn’t give a mediocre HC the GM job so he can dismantle the roster and give said QB a long term extension the team is currently on the hook for…

That decision is on Cal.

I've bought into needing veteran leadership in the locker room to show the young guys how to work so they can be successful in the NFL. Apparently posters have a problem with the fact that these guys came from Foxboro.

Thanks for moving the goal posts. They were obviously in your way.
Not moving goal post. Making the point that 1st and 2nd round picks matter. And that is what I was bringing up from the beginning.

You don’t seem to think so and a GM can build a team with picks with 3rd - 6th round picks. Because 6th round picks is where the best players are.

This team would be better with a QB with Watson’s talent. We definitely could have one more games than we have. And Watson knew this team’s talent when signing the contract. He knew he had to sacrifice 1-2 years of while the team rebuilt when he signed. That is not asking too much if you are not an aging Tom Brady.

Cal isn’t responsible for his for his off the field sexual assaults. “Allegedly”.

You may not agree with GM OB and Easterby. I didn’t. But Watson did when he signed that contract and thanking them in the press conference.

He is ultimately responsible for his actions.

If you don’t think he or someone is responsible for their actions than we will never agree.

Why isn’t he playing if he signed the contract? Who is responsible for that?

If he was playing we would have a better record. That’s on him.

Everyone agrees veteran leadership in the locker room is a good thing. The disagreement is when posters act like these guys from Foxboro can fart Patriots Way pixie dust in the locker room. Burkhead started 9 games in four years with the Patriots. Since leaving the Patriots in 2017, Amendola has not played on a winning team.

I just think this narrative about every former Patriots (not named Brady) can provide your team with veteran leadership is overstated. It's interesting that the ex Patriots (Amendola, Cannon, Burkhead) are all on the worst performing unit on the team. Now that they have been outscored 119-17 in four road games, maybe that veteran leadership will kick in any minute now.

Add to that, Caserio traded away his most productive veteran (leader) acquisition in 2021 for a 2024 7th round pick. So I have to question whether these veteran leader acquisitions were procured to translate to instilling a winning culture or were they brought in to make it look like they actually cared. Many fans bought into Caserio's dizzying flurry of roster moves during the offseason but the bottom line has resulted in squat from a fans perspective. But from the executive boardroom perspective, they're still making money and I'm convinced that's their bottom-line. That's what it looks like to me. Admittedly, I have no inside sources like a couple of members of this board have, so I'm just looking at it from my humble, ordinary Joe frame of reference. And I'm not sure if I'd believe anyone making money off of this franchise if they told me I was wrong about my views on the Texans ownership team. Cal is a brainless fool that gave the franchise over to O'Brien and Easterby when everybody, and I mean everybody that follows the NFL knew that was a terrible idea.

I expect more of the same in the upcoming games/months/years. They like Kelly as OC and Culley as HC because those guys aren't going to rock the boat. They're going to be here for the foreseeable future, regardless of how bad they perform. And they are really, really bad at what they do.

I don't think that was true when he signed.

Several teams in the league had prolific offenses & bad defenses when he signed. Not as bad as ours, but pretty bad.

That 4 win team could have been a 10-12 win team with two difference makers & a real DC.

Teaching players how to work isn't farting pixie dust.

Where were all the veterans during Jimmy Johnson's Cowboy rebuild? None of this Patriot Way BS works without Belichick or Brady.
If you say so, the Pats are looking like they're going to make the playoffs with a rookie QB.

You're right though they have to find the right HC. This year and next is all about accumulating talent and finding a QB. The vets will be showing the young guys the way. The next HC hire will be the most important hire in Texans history.

Watching games today, it appears the Texans have got rid of lots of talent

Watson signed his contract in September. Weeks later OB was fired in October.

He had to have some idea how bad this team was going to be.

Not only that I am sure there was a game or two that the ball didn’t bounce our way. I remember a center screwing up a snap in one game.

And if it only took two difference makers to get to 10-12 why was there such a rush to get out of Houston? Two players and we are back in it.

Wait. I forgot. Weeks before of him wanting out Watson was being “black mailed.”

Allegedly.

The team he was on was scoring points. Defense was bad. Two difference makers on defense & there were 8 games give or take they should have won.
