Texans random thought of the day

It would be incredibly dumb to frachi OBJ, especially in the Texans current situation.
Not just that. But his career is trending to be a poor man’s TO. He lit the league on fire his first three seasons but has now nuked two locker rooms while not performing like a #1 WR should since the 2016 season.

I doubt he has the success he did from 2014-2016 again for any season of his career. Doesn’t matter if a team with a top flight QB pick him up (looking at you Packers). He’s too volatile and is always just one temper tantrum away from another team just cutting him to rid themselves of the diva.

I bet he missed that tackle, Just like Kirksey did last game. I'm thinking that was CnD's point.

Great pic BTW
I think he missed the tackle because he was out of position more than the club on his hand.

Still, I've seen plenty of LBS play with clubs. Most though shouldn't. Matthews, or Ray Lewis are still better than most, even with the club.

Kirksey ain't in that group

Mathews said he felt like he was playing with 1 arm........which he was...........he said that playing with that "stinks." And he missed 4 games, before he ever was allowed to play with the club...........and he played exactly like he had a club...........

He originally broke his thumb in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions, and underwent surgical repair. He came back, and after a few games of subpar play, he re-broke it and was out the rest of the year including the playoffs. He underwent another surgical repair of his thumb and swore that this time he would adhere to a longer conservative and very cautious rehab.

An Oregon safety just made an interception with a club on his right hand.

But that was a "body" catch with little significant dependent on his club hand.

If someone doesn't understand the significant debility a none-lineman player has playng with a club hand. I won't be able to convince them and won't waste anyone's time trying to explain it further.

Not that we don’t understand, just saying the Texans aren’t the only ones who have made that same decision.

That may mean that other teams make dumb decisions as well, but there it is.

I wonder how many Super Bowl teams say it was the Bible study that brought them together to help them win?

Serious question.

I know Kurt Warner was a religious guy. (I would be too if I went from sacking groceries to winning a Super Bowl) But was he, Isaac Bruce, Marshall Faulk and others coming together in bible study?

Any other team that quite possibly contributed to the recipe to success?

I know that when Reggie White was on the Eagles/Packers they had many players in their bible study group.

The thing is, when one player after another has left this organization recently, they're not talking about wanting to stick around for the bible studies...or anything else for that matter. Just the opposite. And Cooks has been outspoken about the work ethic being poor over the last two years.

Maybe the environment isn't "toxic", but it also isn't one of winning football games.

BTW, I don't have a problem with religion or people getting involved in fellowship with those that share like-minded views on the subject. I can say, just for me specifically, I'm very turned off by those who try to recruit me to their religious beliefs. Not saying that's going on with the Texans but it might explain some things.

Speaking of Reggie White and bible study. Here is a good article on how White changed the culture of the Packers. My point again....Player(s) create team cultures and this is another example.

https://archive.jsonline.com/sports/packers/reggie-white-created-winning-culture-b99123135z1-228879211.html

Now Reggie and I were very close and I was kind of a clown and Reggie was pretty serious. And I said, "Reggie, if you want these guys who go to the clubs or hang out — the younger generation — to come to Bible study, you have to come down to their level."

You see, I was still a young guy and my generation went "Bible study? Nah, I'll get some extra sleep." Most guys didn't even know how to open the Bible.

But Reggie thought if he could get on their level, then maybe. Now, every Thursday night, pretty much everybody in the league goes out, drinks, has some wings. Just being a guy. So Reggie went to a watering hole that we would always go to which he never did. Hell no. Reggie was in bed at 7 o'clock.

But he got to that establishment early, one of the first guys there at like 6 or 7 that night and he stayed until like 9. And the guys, they saw that and now there was an incredible connection. Well, the next morning, there were like 40, 50 guys at Bible study. Before that, he had maybe three to five guys there.

And that's when I knew we were a team. We couldn't win until we were together. He was being one of the guys that night, but you also realized if he was making a sacrifice by being somewhere he really didn't want to be, you should probably get to Bible study. He just wanted to show the connection that if we can have camaraderie here, in the bar, we can have camaraderie there at Bible study.

Texans have done nothing from inception thru 2020 to create a new image and/or culture that would lure mid to top FA’s towards their organization.

Texans have had to pay stupid money on lengthy extensions or make horribly self-screwing trades to keep their own FA’s or bring in other talent.

This shite-show is known NFL wide by FO executives to players on the field. The Texans have been so desperate for any kind of positive, they’ll go out and over pay for an over-the-hill former star thinking they can squeeze another stellar season out of them.

Caserio inherited this mess and to be quite honest, I’m surprised he ever took the job. If Cal has agreed to let Caserio run the rebuild then 2021 is a mulligan. I still think Caserio had a decent draft and those players will probably be keepers. I also believe the coaching staff and Kelly were there for appeasing Watson in the hopes he’d be willing to suit up……didn’t happen so I think this group is out come the end of the season.

They had something going on the two years in which they had the best shot to sniff the big dance. We knew exactly what their identity was during that particular time.

I've been an avid NFL fan since the Luv Ya Blue days, which is around 4+ decades, and I have never ever heard of a front office creating a so-called "culture" before they have anything else in place.

Culture is the by-product of a winning team, but the Texans appear to believe they can put the cart in front of the horse because they are special.

Fans and players are clearly not buying the BS, so I expect the marketing company to go into overdrive pushing this bush league agenda. It's what they do.

I tried to tell people this back in 2010. Can you remember the ridicule I took for this line of thinking?

I worked for major international corporations, and believe me, I had corporate "culture" shoved at me constantantly. This crap is a product of modern liberal ivy league business education. I did notice a trend where "old timers" ignored it as much as they could or were allowed; but youngsters coming out of college were all into this stuff.

Texans have signed former Panthers / Denver / Oregon RB, Royce Freeman. I’m good with this latest signing. Went back and looked at Freeman’s Broncos career and it basically appeared as though he was given a 3.5 year reprieve from carrying the load. RF was an absolute successful workhorse in HS (700+ Touches) and with Oregon (1,000+ Touches).

Texans should be giving him the ball in a manner that would give him flashbacks to his Pre-NFL playing days. I just hope that his 3.5 year reduction in playing time may have added some tread back on his tires. By the way…..he left Denver averaging 4.0 yards per carry. RF has a name but if defenses go to sleep on him and he returns the favor with a few impact runs…..it could help whoever is under center.

I hope sharing carries with Freeman is the trick that makes Phillip Lindsay productive again.

Yes, Cal and Easterby and their quest for the right culture are products of liberalism... LOL

Caserio needs to bring in James Ferentz to play C and give Morrisey a chance at OG or vice versa. Cant be worse than McCray. Ferentz actually looked pretty good filling in during the Pats Covid OL Texans game.
He’s a pretty good example of player picked for right scheme. Brought into the NFL as a UDFA for Texans OB’s first and second year. Got cut and stuck with Pats for 4 seasons as quality depth. Certainly should’ve stuck around in Houston considering the alternatives.

Speaking of quality depth. Did anyone catch that Greg Mancz was scheduled to start at C for the Dolphins but was injured? I guess he was a better C than Martin.

Ferentz, Quessenberry, Jones… just a few that have been here but are now starting on good olines. Mancz starting also, for a while, then got hurt.
A couple of weeks ago, due to injuries to their LT, Kendal Lamm was starting for the Titans. So, that game had ex Texans Lamm, Jones and Quessenberry starting on the OL.

It's a fun fact, but I don't know what to make of it.
