I was under the impression Josh Allen was killing it this year, like he finished last season. But, listening to Texans all Access last night, I find that he didn't play all that well in two of the three games he's played this year. Last week appears to be an anomaly.

Of course I think everyone is saying to start him on your fantasy team this week, with good reason.

But I wonder if we can generate enough pressure to get him back to bad Josh.
I know it started from here.

You're were already trying to bait by suggesting there's a bad Josh Allen this year, which makes zero sense to begin with. :ahhaha:

Did you see the part you quoted where I said, “I was under the impression Josh Allen was killing it?”

It was not me who said there was a “not so good” Josh Allen that played the first two games. That was a Bills reporter. & Josh Allen.

First off.
When you quote a source, we need a link.
We need to qualify the source.

Some local reporters are young.
Some cover more than one sport.
Some cover more than just sport.
Not many of them are really knowledgeable about football.

But, listening to Texans all Access last night,

The Bills took the lead with a long run.
Then on the second drive, Allen was 4/5 on the next drive plus a run for 6 on third and 5.
He capped ít off with a 5yd TD pass.

That's all they needed.
Doesn't matter if the RB lost a fumble on the next drive.

On their last drive of the half, the Bills got the ball back at their 9 with 1:15 left.
Sure, he was only 1 of 4 to end the half but that was because they tried to push the ball downfield to attempt a long FG, which was missed.

He completed another bunches of passes and a TD to start the second half.
The Bills went up 21-0.

That was more than they needed.

His IAY was 9.6 (Intended Air Yard per Attempt) for the game as compared to 5.3 dink and dunk for Brissett and negative 1.5 for Tua.

It means that he was pushing the ball downfield rather than dinking and dunking like the Dolphins' QBs.
Ok... no, I didn't respond to any of this. I don't see what they've got to do with the argument.

These are Josh Allen's own words after the game he had a QBR of 35

"I wish we could have put on a better show for the fans and obviously that's not how they wanted it, nor us," Allen said. "Hopefully that next game, we'll be able to go out there and give them something they like."

He knows he had a bad game. His coach knows he had a bad game. & the reporters in Buffalo (I believe the one Deepee interviewed is actually employed by the Bills) know he had a bad game.

I don't see any place where he said he had a bad game.

The writer was writing about a loss.
He highlighted the QB, but he never mentioned the 4 drops; one with the receiver wide open on 3rd and 14 that would have gained at least 21 yards near the Steelers 30.
One missed scoring opportunity right there.
And of course, it was recorded as an incompletion.

There was another long pass, again on third down that the receiver failed to secure the ball; just leaving it out there for the defender to jar loose.
Another scoring opportunity missed; another incompletion recorded.

The reporter didn't mention the blocked punt that resulted in a TD for the Steelers either.

Allen wouldn't throw his teammates under the bus, just like most QBs wouldn't. They all say they can play better.

What was he supposed to say after a loss?
Throwing his teammates under the bus.
I know you're just trying to stir the post. :brando:
Yep. no point in talking sense to some people

I’m not going to pretend to know what goes into QBR (which is some made up stat by ESPN), but he had 314 total yards, 1 TD and 0 INT in that game. Guess thats awful.

The writer that you quote here write about all the teams in general; even if he had watched this particular game, I'm not sure he watched it closely enough.

I still don't get where the 35 QBR comes from to start with.

I've traded too many barbs with TK; he knows I don't mean to be offensive.
I don’t think you’re being offensive. Never do. Although I rarely understand what angle you’re trying to argue.

honest question, would you rather Josh Allen score a 35 QBR against Houston Sunday or an 85?

Doesn't matter.
It's going to be a loss.
I'd rather the two teams play to their capability and that the refs call an even game so we may have a better idea who's who on the roster.

We don't have a Tj Watt, so we probably couldn't pressure him into that kind of performance.

He also stated that playing hero ball wasn't going to get it done, so he's probably not likely to make that mistake again so soon.

However, Stoerner said (today on 610) that Josh doesn't have it in him to dink & dunk it all day. & if we can frustrate him to take those shots at inopportune times, we may have a chance to keep the score low.

I don't know if I believe that.

I don’t see that either but going 30-51 58.82 cmp% in the first game . Then followed that with 17-33 51.52 cmp% is not good. Last week he was back on his game. Sometimes it takes a few games for these players to get going. Shoots even ole Patrick Mahomas, the crowd favorite isn’t playing his best ball as of yet.

I predict another great game from Allen, throwing at least 3-4 touchdowns on us this Sunday.

You get a better idea when you watch the game.

So what if he throw an incompletion on first down, but complete a pass on third down good enough to move the chain. (He did it twice in the Dolphins game).

So what if he throws an incompletion on first down but then scrambles for 6 to move the chain on third down.

So what if he throw an incompletion on first down but then throw for a TD on third down.

So what if he throws an incompletion on third and 3 with 17 seconds left in the half.
The ball was still at the 35, in FG range.
He didn't turn the ball over or take a sack.

I was able to watch the game when I was out in the field. He played poorly and so did his offensive line. Sometimes it happens to even the best of them.

I was talking about the Dolphins game.

In the Steelers' game, the receivers dropped 4 balls (including two long ones); they were officially recorded on ProFootball Reference.

Because you don’t understand “not as good” as it relates to stats vs in-game performance?

The “not as good” performance you mention, included a 35-0 drubbing where his offense scored on darn near every possession.

His TD’s were down because they handed the ball off 3 TD’s in the red zone instead of passing. His yards were down because the Bills defense kept getting Miami turnovers which created short fields for Buffalo’s offense.

Stats are tricky, with a small sample size.
Stats can also be manipulated.

No Jordan Poyer and likely no starting nickel back Taron Johnson in the Bills’ secondary should help Mills a little in what is still a tough matchup.

Frazier will he dialing up the blitz early until Mills gives him a reason to adjust. Lets hope the rookie finds his hot reads and doesn’t have a repeat of that Delpit safety blitz blindside smashing tomorrow.

The Texans attempted two screens in the first two series. The first, Tytus whiffed on a block that would have freed Ingram for a huge gain.

The second was batted down by Shaq Thompson.

I don't know why they didn't try a few more

I assume Blacklock’s snaps will be taken by Demarcus Walker. Cunningham’s by KGH.

Jimmy Moreland and Scottie Phillips now down with the bug going through the locker room so wonder who will replace them for the handful of special teams snaps they got last week? Maybe some people getting healthy this week will make that work itself out.

The number one thing I want to see this week:

Progress in the running game. I just hope there is production at some point. Not asking for a big 70 yard td run but would like to see some nice chunk plays 10+ yard runs!

I really hoped putting tunsil and Howard on the left side together would make them dominate there. Neither seem all that nasty in the run game though.

Hopefully it is just a matter of them developing some chemistry together but Howard in particular has disappointed me with his inability to consistently make blocks at the second level. A good screen play to Ingram last week got squashed because he didn’t make it to his man for example.

Howard said this week, that he's still learning the LG position. Same could be said with Scharping at RG and you have a new C/RT. The OL is trying to jell against 4 of the top defenses in the NFL in 5 weeks. The slow start really isn't surprising particularly with a very inexperienced rookie at QB.

I really wonder what some posters expectations are?

I hoped putting a top tier lt next to a 1st round pick might garner 2-3 yards when needed.

Those aren't high expectations.
They are when you've got a new center and a guy who's played very little LG. With this said, if Howard isn't playing better by say week 8-9 then while not a terrible player Howard can be labeled another of the BOB/Devlin busts in relation to where Howard was drafted.

None of these guys are rookies & None of them are scrubs. At least we're hoping they're not.

Tunsil is mentioned as one of the best by people who aren't particularly Texans fans. Britt & Canon have played on championship teams. Howard was a 1st round pick. Scharping was a 2nd.

We're not talking about high level technique. We're saying you're on the 2nd level, you got your hands on your guy, block him.

It's like if the ball hits the receiver in his hand, it should've been caught.

In this case, they're whiffing on too many blocks.

Maybe Howard just isn't athletic enough to do what you're asking him to do? I certainly dont think Scharping is athletic enough to do what you're asking them to do. How they play matters, not where they were drafted and right now Howard especially and Scharping aren't good enough. Can they improve with time playing together? I sure hope so.

According to Stathead's database, which tracks point spreads back to 1978, there have been only 36 NFL games with a spread higher than 17 points. There have been more than 10,000 NFL games spanning 43 seasons since 1978, and only 36 have had a spread as high as Bills-Texans.
What is it with the Bills and Houston teams? We seem to get together now and then to set new NFL futility records.

I don't want them in Austin now.

My research shows there's been at least 47 games with a spread of 17 or more. And that's back to the early to mid 80's. Patriots (11), Rams (6), Cowboys (4) and Bills (4), have accounted for 25.
