What is Watson's value in a trade?

LOL. Me too. That should be the theme song for this forum.
What song is that ? ....

I kinda thought Complain by Kings X fits this place well. Hell , it should probably be current America's theme song.

And hell dUg Pinnick is one of my alltime favorites ....

Ozone disappearing in the sky
Bud man asking us why ask why
If I could find my magazine this bug would die
I complain

China boy standing up to a tank
Southern boy living in the house of yanks
If I can't seem to get my motorbike to crank
I complain

Complain so much easier

Small kid begging for a crumb of bread
Next kid bloated lying nearly dead
I wonder what to take for my aching head
I complain

Lots of people crying for a little rain
Whole nation learning how to live with pain
I don't know how I'm gonna clean this little stain
I complain

Complain so much easier

Black man singing Mississippi blues
Africa starves a little baby drools
I'm trying to figure out all the basketball rules
I complain

Mr. Rush Limbaugh giving me the facts
Treetops falling and the newsman yaks
I'm thinking about Carter
And how I'm gonna be taxed, hey

Complain so much easier

Why not? We’d be eating something similar for Watson, meaning what they lose in dead money they regain in Watson’s contract. For them it’s a younger franchise QB, for the Texans it’s a QB who can get a sports massage in state. Win-win.
Only 5 m for DW but I'm not against it

As the 2021 season progresses and teams build up losses and quarterbacks either are injured or show their lack of productivity Watson's value will increase. For me if it is a trade with a team that can offer significant players such as Miami I would want the trade to happen sooner. If it is a team like the New York Giants with basically high draft picks I would prefer to wait until after this season to complete a trade.

You know….if Mills has another solid performance, the same might be said Taylor. Teams with a QB1 need may not be to proud to knock on Caserio’s door in regards to Taylor’s availability. Texans might be able to hold out for a RD3 or RD4 for Taylor…..if there’s a team truly in need of a QB1 better than their current options.

I could see that possibility and Taylor is on a one-year contract. A trade would also save us about 3 million on the cap.

I don’t see it that way. The more losses build, the team starts looking at next season. You’re going to need a winning team with something to play for to lose their QB. A team on the verge of moving on from that QB anyway, like Pittsburg, Atlanta, or New Orleans.

Miami keeps losing, there’s less pressure for them to do anything now.

Out of curiosity. Whether it's Watson or Taylor. Why would a team trade for a QB 4 to 6 weeks into the season? Besides the Patriots trading Garoppolo to the 49ers before the trade deadline, I don't recall a QB getting traded at the deadline and contributing. Even after Garoppolo was traded, it took 4 weeks and a bye before he made his first start and it lead to a 6-10 record.

This late in the season, I don't know what value a new QB brings to the table for any potential trade partner.

I only partially agree with you on Miami that Miami is in a short time period Of making the decision. Ross should be thinking " Would DW have kept us in the game against Tampa Bay and would he get us wins 2 and possibly 3 of the next upcoming weeks."

Teams like Detroit, NYG, Denver and perhaps Jets should be squirming.

Even if all of his legal issues go away Watson’s value will never be as high as it was before these claims were made public so not sure much incentive for teams to dive in long-term until this mess has a bit more clarity.
And you are welcome to your opinion but that does not mean it's correct.

What are you guys going to talk about when the trade deadline passes and he's still here ?
Surely they'll takl about his value increasing when the next window opens up.

I'm waiting for the, "they should have traded him before the trade deadline" when he's indicted & the Texans get nothing for him & still have to count $40M towards next year's cap.

If the Texans are so sure he's going to jail they should void the extension before it's too late & cut him loose.

I'm sure he will be spending much more time in the Sexual Assault thread.

When he's not conjuring up some unrealistic possible trade scenarios this offseason.

I'm waiting for this too.

They're hoping he doesn't do time and they can recoup some of his value.

This is the risk the McNair's are willing to take. IMHO

Texans could try moving the majority of picks back so the proper time is given for a resolution to be found.

In Miami’s case, they keep Tua but give up picks over the next 3 drafts.

2022: RD1
2023: RD1, RD2, RD4
2024: RD1, RD2, RD3

The picks in 2023 & 2024 could be looped into some type of protection plan for Miami based on how the Watson situation plays out. Texans & Caserio get their RD1 in 2022 and backload the trade in 2023 & 2024 when the Watson mess should be in the rear-view mirror.
Just read an interesting article on the ESPN site about the Texans situation and the potential of trading Watson.

1. As I mentioned in other post….a trade of Watson will essentially depend on Goodell giving his blessing to the receiving team that Watson could suit up and play until there’s more conclusive evidence found that would lean heavily towards Watson being found guilty. At the moment, Watson has not budged in regards to his willingness of seeing this situation play out in court. To date, the NFL has found nothing conclusive enough in their own investigation to place Watson their exempt list. Because of Goodell’s lack of action…..it’s left this situation in limbo. I think if Watson is to be traded, both Owners and GM’s would have to sit down with Goodell and find out what he would do if Watson was traded and the receiving team was planning to start him within 3 weeks. If Goodell’s is willing to wait on the NFL making a decision until after depositions in February 2022, Watson could be traded.

2. Caserio and the Texans have to know that if Watson is to be traded while his current situation is in limbo, then they could still get a healthy return provided they’re willing to meet the receiving team halfway in regards of the risk being taken on. The Texans need to get out of this situation before Watson’s new contract kicks in and he’s to be paid 35M dollars guaranteed. This is a dookey sandwich that neither team would want to eat the majority of.

3. I still feel like Miami is the team who would be willing to green light a trade for Watson before the deadline if Goodell is willing to let him take the field this season. The Dolphins have a favorable schedule going forward and a true QB1 could be the difference maker. The Dolphins would have to feel pretty sure that a 9 win season could still get them into the playoffs.

4. If Miami is the team….Texans are more likely to get a player or players to consummate the deal this season and let the agreed on picks come into play if the case is dropped by the 2022 NFL Draft or if the case is resolved (found innocent) by the 2023 draft. A provision for a guilty verdict should be predicated on the time of confinement. If less than a year…..picks would come into play for the 2023 NFL Draft.

5. Texans could wait until after the depositions and try to trade Watson during the 2022 off-season. There could be several interested teams if Watson’s situation is looking favorable. Texans could be in the drivers seat while entertaining offers. I could see the Giants and Eagles as the teams Caserio would rather deal with b/c of their potential draft position and picks in 2022. There will surely be more teams but they’ll need to add high end young players still on their rookie contracts to include with a package of picks since some of those interested teams draft position may be later than the Texans would like.

If a team trades for him, they'll be bound to that $35M figure.

The way I see it, the only way out is for the Texans to void the extension & 2021 is the last year of his rookie contract. They can then tag him & put a 1st round tender on him. Then it's up to the new team to negotiate a new deal, which he's not going to want to do.

The Texans are pretty much in a no win situation & it gets worse the longer it drags out.

I’m good with your direction but what is the basis for voiding the extension?
