Sexual Assault Suits Against Watson

I didn't ask DJohn for his opinion.

I will ask you again, what's Buzbee done that's unethical in his representation of these clients?

Two come immediately to mind, saying that FBI was investigating which lead to Hardin response.

Two https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...ct-with-tony-buzbee-regarding-deshaun-watson/

I don’t understand why the Texans are playing these bullshit games with him. Why are they letting him use their facilities when he has no intention of playing for them?
Because the Texans have no intention of Watson ever playing for them, again. Letting Watson use the facilities may help keep him in shape and help his trade value. Whenever that happens.

I guess, but he's not really doing anything, at least nothing he couldn't be doing in his own backyard and posting on his IG account.

No sir. Other women have gone to HPD who have not filed a lawsuit. They have nothing to do with Buzbee. So even if he were to settle he is still ask risk to be charged
Sure they went to the police...AFTER public scrutiny for filing those anonymous lawsuits and the situation appearing to be a money grab. And even then it was originally only 1 lawsuit back in May, which was months after the lawsuits filed. Those other women you are talking only recently filed. And still to day...ZERO charges against Watson has been filed (let alone any convictios).

What's the difference again between victim blame and Watson blame?

Because Watson put himself in the position 50 times

Every study that has ever been done trying to determine the rate of false reporting of sexual assault has shown only a 2-10%
incidence. The FBI's own statistics demonstrate those determined to be false after investigation at 8%.

There was something like 6-7 women that went directly to HPD without a civil cases, back in June or earlier IIRC. Zero charges being filed at this point means nothing. Convictions? Not sure how you would have that before charges being filed.

People calling Buzbee's actions unethical, while defending DW's right to due process is kind of funny, but mostly sad.

You don't like all the comments by the lawyer, you tired of hearing about it? Guess who is the root cause of it all, so blame DW because regardless of the legal outcome he is the one that set this shitshow in motion with his unethical behavior.

Hardin said that Watson spoke to FBI back in April about the alleged extortion involving a massage therapist and, I believe, another man. Hardin provided their evidence of such communications back in March. If there were something to his allegations, the FBI investigation would likely have produced results by now.

Hardin admitted he first learned of the FBI's investigation (inquiry, whatever) into Watson from the Buzbee interview this week. So this investigation is new, and much more complex.

That's the way I understood Hardin presser, too. Not sure if it's a new investigation or just ongoing, expanded and all-encompassing. No reason to think that only one side could have committed a crime in this sh!t show.

Charges will be filed after this hits the grand jury.

Victims accusing someone of abuse is not the same as others with minimal or no evidence blaming the victim or the abuser of anything. Your report does not address what I said; seems to be a lot of that on this MB.

Speaking only for myself I have never said that Watson's Behavior was not unethical. However I expect those in the judicial system including LEOs, investigators, attorneys, and the judge if necessary to be ethical.

You are OK with those I listed breaking laws [for example] to prove someone has broken a law?

Demanding that Buzzbee and Hardin be ethical while Demanding Watson or any accused has due process is not funny or sad..it is constitutional.

It is sad to me that you think the opposite. Is there a reason you want DW to be excluded from our basic rights? Are those rights just for you and those you choose?

The FBI and the Houston police are 2 totally different entities. However either the Houston police or the Harris County Sheriffs dept is investigating or rumors of this going to a grand jury wouldn't be happening.
That has nothing to do with what I said. I said both Attys should not say anything. You just said it is OK because the investigations are ongoing...

I said, this is America and it used to be the people could say whatever they wanted. I will ask you again what has Buzbee said/done that's been unethical?

Just because you dont like what he's saying doesn't mean he's been unethical. I think he's done a great job of representing these women and I cant wait for this to go to trial.

False. 1 went in May. And the remaining only recently filed...just a few weeks ago. All did it at the same time, and not independently at the time of each alleged incident.

And I'm guessing your point isn't that there's strength in numbers?

This is incorrect.
So what are the facts?

The first criminal complaint was filed in mid March, then the 2nd the end of March. Since then the criminal complaints have trickled in.........totaling 10, with the last 2 not being party to a lawsuit. There is an 11th that is being prepared, and from what I have been told as it now stands an additional 2 may be filed in the future.

I thought that was what I heard. I knew someone had filed a criminal complaint shortly after the first wave of civil cases. Meaning that HPD has 2 options according to a friend who worked for HPD before going to private security.
1- Lump them together and investigate all at once.
2- Take it case by case for investigation.
If they have/are going case by case, that is worse for Watson. Seeing March is the date of case 1. Which is not only separate from the others that Buzz represents but has more chances of a single or multiple cases becoming charges. If investigated as a group, due to some not becoming in until recently. This could cause HPD to feel the majority are "just following along" and not probable as legit.

We will all have to wait and see. Right now it seems HPD is investigating each sperate. Possibly with the plan to perhaps tie them all together after each is investigated. Otherwise, I would think a charge would have been made or case dropped by now (just a guess based on a former HPD investigator).

Some of the criminal claimants were fueled to go to the authorities after being deeply bothered by Hardin's statement that all of the alleged victims were "liars." And after mulling over the disturbing statement at length, they made the decision to press forward with the criminal complaints.

How on God's green earth did you leap to those conclusions about me. I am not okay with anything you suggested I was. I didn't demand anything. It's sad because people that are concerned about Buzzbee's ethics don't seem concerned about DW4's unethical behavior. Where I come from you don't adjust your morals based on your desired outcome.

I would keep going, but I sense it might not be the best expenditure of my time, suffice it to say I believe in all human rights across the board, and across the world. In fact, the whole response is based on DW4 violating other peoples basic human rights. Not sure how you got to those conclusions about me, but it's not true.

quote one post that has defended Watsons alleged actions.

not his right to defend himself or innocent until proven guilty. Show one poster on this board who doesn’t have concern for the allegations from a basic human rights position.

you guys are ridiculous to me around these parts. Defending ones ability to defend themselves and saying you think the allegations are ok are two wildly different things. Stop grouping them together.

That's not even what I was trying to convey :sigh:

But since you brought it up. You either have underlying ethics that guide you no matter what or ones that are fluid based on what is technically legal in situation "x". Plus there's the whole court of public opinion context we have been posting in throughout this thread.

Good deflection. The bottom line is not a single person has even come close to saying what Watson is accused of is acceptable.

When you write a sentence like this you are establishing guilt. "His unethical behavior."

Could be the cause of your arguments.

Fundamentally there are only 2 groups here:

-So many women have made claims he must be guilty.

-The justice system has a process. Wait and see.

It's not more complicated then that.

Also Harden's crap about the FBI investigating extortion is a total falsehood , they are investigating Internet crimes - the use of the internet to lure victims AGAINST Watson.

There aren't just two groups here. You're conflating and boiling down some groups that don't belong together:

-So many people have made claims, so he's probably guilty.
-So many people have made claims, so he is guilty.
-The people making the claims are lying and guilty of extortion.
-The justice system has a process, let's wait and see.
-The justice system has a process, but it's skewed to favor rich men so he's probably going to be cleared whether he did it or not.
... and probably several more I've overlooked.

Ok. I can see that. But, will any of these charges result in Watson seeing one day in prison? I see suspended sentence, probation, consoling, and community service.

What will the NFL punishment be? 6 games? A year? More? That's where the real $$$ will hit Watson.
Once those charges hit he will lose the rest of his endorsements. Don’t know if he will be convicted or not, but the uglier allegations will come out.

Yes, basic ethics like honoring a contract you just signed. But I'm not in either group, it's not that simple. But in the end, the justice system does have a process and we do have to wait and see. And I am okay with that, and I have never had an issue with due process. But between now and then this is the discussion, and not to acknowledge what we know to be facts at this point doesn't make sense to me, it's pretty obvious he doesn't have a strong moral compass.

Watson is the only one in this case who lost his moral compass? Every woman who’s filed civil or criminal lawsuit against Watson operates their lives from a moral high ground?

Outside of “she said-he said little” there’s been no absolute evidence presented publicly except words of accusations. So, which group stands more firmly on the idea of moral high grounds hasn’t been proven in a court of law at this time.

I’m with Lucky on this one. I don’t think there’s any physical evidence to fall back on outside the first shake-down/blackmail move in this whole mess. Watson may be found guilty of a lesser charge. With no priors and solid community work in his background he probably gets some probation time, counseling, and community work. The civil cases would take a hit in this outcome and payouts, if awarded, may not be what Buzzbee and his clients were looking for. The NFL probably shelves him for 6 games to appease NFL fans.

A smart Watson would then come back to the Texans and waive his “no trade clause” so the team is free to move him to the highest bidder…..otherwise, the team could wait for his 6 game suspension to conclude then bring him to practice and announce that he’s the starter for the next game….if Watson refuses to suit up, Texans can suspend him without pay for conduct detrimental to the team. I wouldn’t even let him near the practice field, in the event he’d fein an injury. Texans need only inform Watson that they can do this far longer than he can afford to.

If this case concludes in a suspension for Watson…..I see the Eagles and Dolphins as the first teams to call. I see the Giants as a far horse if Jones still can’t get it going. If Goff doesn’t flourish in Detroit, they might become an interested team as well.

You won’t see any evidence publicly until after he is charged.

No. He won’t. You lose Nike, say goodbye. Nobody is going to want a human trafficker on their team. And that’s if he avoids jail. In which he also has to avoid being charged by the FBI. Again it’s too much working against him.
It's funny, Nike has been dodging human trafficking accusations for years. Doubt they would take on this type of additional "attention."

So an Insider is leaking information from the FBI to you? If that is correct, that is part of the unethical I was referring to that seems to be going on in this case. Otherwise you know no more than we do of what the FBI is investigating.

Attorney and former police officer Charles Adams Speaks On The Emergency Rustin Hardin Press Conference On The Deshaun Watson Legal Battle

"For Rusty to be complaining about Tony going to the media or social media is so incredibly disingenuous because Rusty has been a master of media manipulation since he entered the realm... but Rusty has to try to silence the discourse, his client is a creep.

"For rapists — and I’m not saying he’s a rapist because I wasn’t there — for rapists it’s never about the sex, it’s never about the availability of sex. It’s about the control, the power, the domination. And if you look at these allegations it sounds like he has a problem with sexual domination.

"I will tell you from somebody who has investigated sexual assault claims, somebody who has seen it from a variety of angles whether it’s as a police officer, a lawyer, or a judge... I believe these women. And I don’t believe in the concept of believe all women.

"But when you look at this it looks like he is, and I’m sorry, it looks like he’s a predator. Personally I don’t think he has any business on the Houston Texans, I don’t think he has any business in the NFL."
