That's why a good prosecuting lawyer would cut you in the first day of jury selection.
That's fine. & I would be upfront about it as well.

But, let me be sure I understand what you guys are saying. If I ran a pest extermination business & some rich affluent person came to me, while I was servicing his house, & said, "Perform Oral sex on me, or I will make sure you never get another contract in this city." You all believe a person could possibly feel obligated to perform such service? Without any other threat of violence?

Preposterous

You don't think men have been doing similar things to women in the workplace for decades ?

The threat of being ruined professionally is just as threatening , if not more so than being physically threatened , particularly for a young , single mother which many of these women were.
The physical threat walks out the door with him , the threat of professional and financial ruin is dependent upon his actions after the fact.
The threat of their career being ruined and the subsequent loss of income is quite real.

That threat coming from someone like Watson - with his reputation at the time & "credibility" as an influencer with millions of followers ? How many commercials has he been paid to pitch ? Companies pay this guy to endorse their wares because of the gravity of his persona.

Who are these women's clients but other athletes - Watson's peers of whom he has their ear .... Yes , they could easily feel capitulated.

Hell we have over 30 women making claims against him and many argue its nothing more than a money grab by a bunch of sex workers. They are being drug thru the proverbial mud right now as a result ....

And lets not forget that there are multiple victims who state he used physical force.

Most of these women said they had not worked with NFL players before & were hoping Watson would be their entry into that market.

They can decide then & there if Watson is expecting this, is this the kind of business I want to be a part of.

Let’s not forget I’m asking for proof of coercion other than slandering a business.

It doesn’t matter what you or everyone on here believes about whether or not a person would feel obligated to perform such a service based on that threat. It matters if a threat was made and how the individual faced with the threat feels.

Of course it doesn’t matter what you think. I said if I were a member of the jury.

This part of your comment, where you ask all of us about our belief indicates that you think it matters what us folks believe. You even emphasized it with “Preposterous “. I was responding to that specifically.

What you hypothesized sounds like economic blackmail and if that exterminator was a single mom then yeah it could happen.

These quotes support my earlier statements on the league letting Watson "act on the hold out threats" before placing him on the CEL.

Placing him on the CEL before he actually shows up is just not good for the Texans franchise and gives him exactly what he wants - not having to honor his contract.
Once he does show up - that's the smart thing for him to do - he will immediately go on the CEL.

The league (Goodell) is doing the Texans right in this situation.

Some of them had , others hadn't and hoped Watson was their entry point to those high profile clients.

Now consider that "key" is now extorting you .... yeah , one might feel compelled to capitulate.

The proof begins with 30 something complainants all making similar statements along with the text messages where he's essentially trying to clean up spilled milk.

I can easily see 30 something convictions of indecent exposure. I can't see one rape conviction when slander is the only threat.

……and being that this has been made public, what is the exact evidence that exists or has been presented, besides a statement/accusation from one side of the aisle? It’ll be difficult to convince a jury with accusations alone b/c Hardin and Watson will flatly deny the accusation unless some hard evidence is produced. If this evidence existed…..Hardin would be pressing Watson to settle out of court.

Under Texas law (and just about every other state too) you cannot "extract consent" by threat or coercion.

Its not consent when its under duress.

Suck me or else <insert whatever you want> is not consensual.
Understood.

If I were on a jury, & I'd probably be cut at first pass, but if I were & the only "force" they alledge is slander, I'm voting not guilty.

If he forced himself on a few of them, is that’s considered rape?
And yet, if I'm understanding correctly, he did not use any "force" as it's traditionally been defined by law. Only in the past few years, since the me-to movement, has a new interpretation been used, and that is more accurately described as "coercion".

But this is, in Watson's case, a pretty gray area. Again, if I'm understanding correctly, Watson did not, to use your words, extract consent. So, a conviction would not be for committing a sexual act, but for an unconsummated attempt at coercion. This is what is going to be difficult to prove. Did the exchange of words actually fall to the level of coercion, and if they did, why didn't he force the issue?

This is so convoluted and I haven’t been paying much attention to it anymore, but out of curiosity how did “slander” enter the picture? I thought the force was sexual assault and not slander? I doubt a big time defense lawyer would get involved with a slander case.

The NFL has interviewed some of the women. The tweets from Josena Anderson, show me that Goodell doesn’t want to help Watson out in any way. They still are in fact finding mode means they are waiting on HPD

Right, I could understand if she were employed by a corporation & Watson was her superior. But in this case, she is an independent contractor who can refuse service for any reason. & she's not going to lose any clientele she already has (professional athletes) because of Watson's threat, since she has no professional athlete clientele. I'm speaking of the one who alleges she was forced to perform oral sex.

As far as we know, the one who alleges she was forced to perform oral sex says if she didn't Watson was going to bad mouth her "business"

It makes you wonder what the Texans FO may have told Goodell about the situation and what they knew at the time and what they may have been forced to do (trades, etc) to try to get DW to straighten out. People seem to forget the Texans side of the story.

I hope we find out one day.

I'm curious if the owner knew about any of this stuff before giving Watson that massive guaranteed contract. Some speculate that he did know and that's why Easterby was hired, but I have not seen anything confirming it.

Because we all know what it means if McNair did know and signed him anyway. . .

I'm with TK on this. I don't get the Watson "threatens" to block her entry into the market argument. What happens if he refers other players who will expect this extra service? Does she want that clientele or having to deal with guys like Watson?

Also, thinking about this. If the masseuse doesn't provide the extra services and let him know she will go public about his behavior. If she goes public, doesn't Watson have more to lose than the masseuse? Again, not trying to minimize this issue, but these masseuses are well aware of the sleazy people they will encounter and to think that in that moment, the only thing they can think about is the loss of potential income seems just as wrong.

To be fair. I don't think McNair knew about his behavior. Anyone implying he hired Easterby to fix this problem are full of it. At the contract signing, Easterby was right there beaming like a proud father. I'm not buying the fairy tale that Easterby rode in on his white horse to save the Texans from the heathens. Easterby was just as busy as Watson trying to find his version of a happy ending (organizational power).

I would agree that mcNair is unlikely to have known the sordid details But that probably means Easterby also didn’t. I don’t know anything about the guy but I’d doubt he’d be smiling at the contract signing if he knew…and what should he have been doing? Frowning, staring at the wall? Maybe he was just happy for DW.

Nor do I. I do believe when they heard he was probably involved some way in corroborating the rumors. If DW is found guilty he does deserve time. Regardless of the outcome I prefer him gone for quitting on the team.

tbh, I tend to agree. I think he's a dumb owner, but that level of dumb would actually be a bit shocking.

Although, I would not be surprised if they had heard vague rumors about Instagram girls simply because I'd heard about those when Hopkins was unceremoniously traded away. Maybe they were just blinded (and perhaps willfully ignorant) about their Golden Goose player for obvious beneficial financial reasons.

Like I said, I'm just curious as a fan, but cannot claim to know much of anything at this point.

If it ever comes out McNair knew and signed him anyway, the Texans will need a brand change. New name, potentially owner.

So it’s not rape when it’s forced. That young lady who said he threatened her career if she didn’t go down on him was flat out lying.

4 and they didn't like it and refused to continue and that's 4 of the 22 civil and 8 (?) Criminal complainants. They are not talking to Watson and are no longer talking to the complainants so where exactly is the fact-finding mode that they are in? I do agree that they are waiting on HPD.
