Amazing that Belichicks "clerk" gets all the blame for the Pats poor drafts.

Whatever blows your dress up I suppose.

:coffee:
Again, I think it’s “poor drafts” when you’re looking at individual players. Ever since I saw Tim Brown play both sides of the ball... I knew they were doing something different there.

I mean guys like Vrabel, Ninkovinch, the slew of RBs, Welker, Amendola that were basically JAGs anywhere else becoming champions... I mean, it’s different & they were looking for something else when they had Captain America under center.

& yeah, it’s a scary thing when “culture” becomes a buzz word around the facility &you don’t have Captain America.

This just shows how great the coaching is over there. They knew how to coach up guys to fit their brand of football. Even with Captain America, he had to be coached up first. Props to Belichick and Company for being able to teach their scheme to their players no matter where they were drafted.

The obvious reason as to why Bob Kraft fought to keep Caserio is it was after Nick had done most of his preparation of setting the Patriots 2020 free agency plans and the Pats NFL draft board. Bob simply didn't want that Patriot information out of the building. As we all know, top level secrecy is the Patriots Way.

A second reason is after so much success Bob Kraft and his Patriots became complacent. After hiring Eliot Wolf as a consultant maybe Wolf explained to Kraft there was a major flaw in the way Nick Caserio was approaching free agency and setting up the Patriots draft board. Wolf showed Kraft there was a much better way to do this. Kraft bought in and change the Caserio way of preparing for free agency and the draft. The results were dramatic and why Kraft felt he could throw Caserio under the bus for Pats FA and draft failures and disappointments over the previous 5 years.
Or Kraft had the Jilted massge parlor envy syndrome.

Kraft is a bit of a hypocrite.

Keep your eyes closed, your ears plugged and your bag of excuses full. How many times can you say massage parlor envy? A bit of a cheap shot even for you. If that is your response every time the name Bob Kraft is mentioned, you ain't got nothing.

I dont need nothing and my eyes/ears are far from closed.

I just try to bring a little massage parlor humor to the MB, gotta LOL since the Pervert/Cal put the franchise in the position it's in.

BTW the reason Mills was drafted is not so much his talent but because he's a good Christian boy. He gets the Janice McNair and Jack Easterby seal of approval. As David Culley, a good Christian, is the antithesis of Bill O'Brien, Davis Mills, a good Christian, is the antithesis of the pervert Deshaun Watson. (Do you see a pattern here?)

Folks may not remember how embarrassed Janice was with all of O'Brien's vulgarity in Hardknocks, Janice is even more embarrassed by the Pervert's multitude of sexual deviant escapades. Janice McNair will be embarrassed no more by the Houston Texans. She can now attend her gala balls and charity events in peace. This is the new mindset of the Houston Texans, exorcising and casting out all the dastardly evil ways that has infiltrated the Houston Texans. Can I get a hallelujah and an AMEN?

I was sooooo hopeful Caserio could have pulled off a pre draft trade of the perv and had that 2nd pick to acquire the BYU kid considering he is extremely talented and as a bonus he’s squeaky clean and that would make the McNairs all giddy.

I still have no problem drafting a kid in the 3rd who graduated from Stanford with a lot of upside.

I have no idea.

Are Kubiak/Capers/BOB Christians. To me this doesn't matter if they aren't doing a Christian litmus test when it comes to acquiring talent.

Janice should be embarrassed that what came from her loins got in bed with a Pervert.

They are not going deep conversation into religion like that but it’s best to PM. If you think they’re out of bounds with what they have typed.
To the point, the conversation is not about religion. It's about the McNair's hiring & player selection process.

& if there's an issue with a post, reporting it would be nice. But we've always been open to self moderation when done in charity.

So far I've got the score as a tie - Texansballer74 1 point, cuppacoffee 1 point on whether Bill Belichick is a great coach or not.

Now, about that Davis Mills guy...

McClain stated the other day that Mills will come into the pre-season as the 3rd quarterback on the depth chart, behind Taylor and Driskel. That wouldn't surprise me and it also wouldn't surprise me if the depth chart remains that way going into the season opener. That would be indicative of the large experience gap between the 3 quarterbacks. But I think it would make a lot of fans unhappy.

TB74 and I are usually in lockstep about everything Texans though.

Mills progression should be an interesting story line this season. I'm hoping we got a steal.
Hope is about all we Texan fans have right now.

From comments by OTA observers, and acknowledging that practices were without pads, there was a clear distinction that Mills was a far superior talent over Driscel. I agree that going into camp, Driskel will be #2, but if Mills is to be our future QB, he will beat out Driskel going into game one. The #3 QB gets very few snaps during the season, so if he can't beat out Driskel, his chances for further improvement in the Texans offense will be limited. I'd also say that if he can't beat out Driskel, that will be a good indication he's not our future.

I see a totally different path.

As it stands, Mills doesn’t have the experience to compete for a spot on the active roster. That’s based on a number of starts Bill Parcels would like to see from a college prospect.

I would like to see the Texans compensate for that lack of experience by drilling him on the scout team (playing against our first team defense) & the QB meeting room & prepare him to compete for the starting or back up position in 2022.

& Driskel is pretty darn talented. He had his shortcomings too when he was drafted. He should have those worked out by now & be ready to play.

Between the Texans not playing a game any time soon and my non existent love-life, I needed to see some scoring so I'm just glad you and TB74 gave me that.

I don't see how the scout team is going to help him since the scout team is emulating the opponent week to week. The Texans think Mills has the potential to be their QB of the future so let him concentrate on learning and executing the playbook. IMO Driskel can run the scout team, he's not the future and the expectation should be different.

If Mills returned to school & played another year, he would not be playing against the talent he will be playing against running the scout team. He will be playing against a better group of talent on a weekly basis.

On the scout team he can work on tying his eyes to his feet, mechanics, reading defenses, and all the fundamentals he would throw out the window when his focus turns to winning games.

What the hell does being a Christian have to do with anything? You're getting ridiculous..
That’s his whole point, it appears the Texans are hiring coaches and personnel based on their faith.

Does sound ridiculous to me but not how you meant though.

This might be best for Mills (debatable) but it's not best for the Texans. The Texans need Mills to shine and to take over as the starter sooner rather than later.

Not if 2021 is the throw away year.

Rodgers & Mahomes may not be the players they are today had they started as rookies. & they both had more experience than Mills.

I don't mind if the fans don't know if Mills can play or not. The coaches & scouts will know.

If we were to draft a QB with the 1st overall pick, it will be based on speculation that he can play.

Someone will make that decision based on what they saw. Same with Mills.

Same with Mahomes. Go back & read what was said about him as a rookie. They didn't need to put him on the field to determine if he was ready. They determined he was ready, then put him on the field.

Same with Romo. He wasn't on the active roster for three years before they decided he was ready to suit up.

I am perfectly fine extending Tyrod Taylor if I'm not sold on any QB in the 2022 draft, if we're not in position to select the QB I want in the 2022 draft, & even if I think Mills is ready to be the backup & not the starter.

I don't want to be like the Jags & Titans drafting Locker, or Bortles in the first round just because I need a QB.

I'd rather find a Cassel, or Smith who can help us be competitive until I find a Mahomes, Rodgers, or Wilson

Culley was asked about how He will determine who the starters will be. He said the players will decide that on the field. He said he knows whose ready to play and who isn’t and if not they will try to coach them up to be ready. This TC is going to be amped up and nobody can relax even If they make the final cut.

Well yeah. There was more to that interview. He definitely likes, as head coach, watching the position coaches coach. He really likes his coaching staff and their experience. Goes without saying everyone is involved. He also really believes in preseason games because it’s when the speed of the game rises especially for the rookies. thats the final filter That he takes seriously since “ they are keeping score”.

Back to Mills discussion. 610 in the loop, this 4th of July Friday Weekend, spent abundance of air time discussing should Mills start or sit. Never in Texan history can I remember so much talk about a 3rd rd pick? Which should be a red flag, as to just how ridiculous all this pressure, expectations, bad pick, not ready to start are. He is a 3rd rd. Developmental QB. Period. When there is opportunity to draft a QB with upside at value, Texans should be making that pick every year. Each GM (not Caserio) has failed this franchise of QB development.

Best examples for Casserly was drafting Henson in 6th and turning him into a 3rd from the Cowboys (I’m not looking this up, just off memory so don’t sue me). Smith drafted TJ Yates in 5th and he actually played meaningful snaps when Schaub went down (playoffs). Otherwise, the one hit, was Rick Smith’s move up for Watson. That’s it.

Bringing this up for last time. Pep Hamilton is the Texans QB coach. Last year he was Herberts QB coach. If push comes to shove (Taylor goes down) and Pep says Mills is good to go, then give the man reps earned. If not, he sits, and feed Driscoll to the dogs and let chips fall where they may.

I thought he was saying it would be performance based. It’s all about competition. How they compete will determine who will start... the players decide.
I get what your saying when you put it like that. With Culley it’s more open ended answer, subject to interpretation. Of course they will compete but end of day it’s still a coaches decision, or maybe I’m just fried from the O’Brian way, lol
