Texans Minicamp, OTA’s and Preseason

Of course. Because they can never do wrong in your mind.
They can do wrong but in my opinion they are headed in the right direction and none of the wrong some people think they have done will hurt our team all that much. I don't think it will equate to a lot of wins this season but the team will never be accused of taking games off. I expect some signs that our team could make the playoffs no later than next season.

I'll certainly welcome it if it happens. I moved out of the Houston area a month ago so I doubt I'll have many opportunities to watch this surprising transformation (provided it happens).

I only ask people what their expectations are because I'm genuinely interested in hearing (reading) what they have to say. People here can say a lot of things about me but one thing they can't say is that I bash people for having a differing opinion than myself. Number19 called me "dense" a couple weeks ago for having an opinion, I never do that crap. If I ask someone for an opinion it's because I appreciate and respect their viewpoint.
This yr will be a learning yr for Mills and to see if he's the guy. If the Texans stay relatively healthy and get avg QB play I see 5 wins. The defense will be better next yr because they will be faster and while still not good, the secondary should be better.

We definitely lack blue chip talent but there are some guys that can be productive on both sides of the ball if the coaches play to their strengths. I’m not counting on it but I’d love to see productivity from Blacklock and Greenard now that they‘ll be attacking alot more in Smith’s system. I wouldn’t be surprised if Reid plays much better this season. Offensively, Cooks has been a very good receiver over his career and if Coutee gets his act together he’s shown signs of being a very productive slot receiver. I could see Akins taking another step forward in his development and I also like Lindsay. With competent coaching (finally) perhaps the OL will take a step or 2 forward which would help tremendously

I’m really hopeful that all Casserio and Culley’s talk about competition is more than just lip service and the best players play.
I'm hopeful Blacklock will be more productive in Lovie's defense. I do think talent/depth were big issues. The last sentence was one of the biggest issues with the BOB regime. Playing time was given based on contracts/draft status/FA signings etc... rather than being earned.

You’re good to go Banned. I know how you get down on here. I really don’t have any high expectations for this team. But since we have a new coaching regime and a host of new players. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and wait and see what we have after a few games are played.
I’m looking forward to a fun and competitive season. I’d like to see the offense be the primary reason for any success this team enjoys b/c that sets the 2022 NFL Draft up for a defensive renovation. I’m good with Taylor carrying the torch for the entire season as long as Mills is showing the desired progress throughout the 2021 season in practices. If the OL is becoming a halfway decent unit....I’d probably look forward to seeing Mills go under center for the final 2-3 games so he can get some in-game acclimation to roll into competing for the starting job in 2022 season. Hopefully his progress strikes a need to draft a QB in RD1 off the list and leaves the pick with the defense. A young RB would be at the top of my list in RD2 through RD4. Again, just hoping for a healthy, fun, and competitive season....that leaves the Texans in a great draft position.

I have a good feeling about our team. Win or lose I don't think a lack of effort is going to be a problem. I won't predict that our team makes the playoffs but I think they will be better than expected.
The funny thing is, the people who will be most upset after each game & at the end of the season are the ones saying the Texans don't have a shot & will be picking in the Top 5.

I believe if we see Mills taking snaps this season it will be because they want to get him ready for next season.

Not to "see what they got."

He explained in his post why he thinks it's a head scratcher. For a team with the amount of turnover the Texans have had, I think they could use all the reps they can get.

Another question they were making on 610 is, why are the coaches of a 4-12 locker room even seeking acceptance from the players? Why are they trying to bargain with them? Show up for all team activities or risk losing your spot and getting cut.
Abso-freaking-lutely! That’s how John Wayne would’ve done it.

Ok Graduated in a pandemic yr while playing football.

Tell me since you are Mr. technicality, How many football players graduate in 4 yrs? How many graduate in 4 yrs from Stanford? What makes you think Mills is going to be a game manager? He tested athletically better than the pervert and has a better arm. Apparently he has the ability to be much more than a game manager.
Thank you for the very true post. Also, didn't he score some crazy high score on the wonderlick (sp)? Meaning that he has a very good head on his shoulders

He’s not being objective because he doesn’t like the young man. My thing is you have to at least give the kid a shot first. That shot hopefully won’t be here until 2022. Right now let him sit and learn. And it’s ok to dislike whatever pick, but at least talk about both sides of the coin verses only keying on the part that fits your agenda.
Quoted for truth and because if he can sit and learn... next year we very well might have a steal. High IQ, great arm, can read a D, more mobility than you think, doesn't let mistakes rattle him... He needs polish, but if he gets it he can be very good. To the point IMO that you forget about Oil Boy in short order

I don't know who those people will be but I know I won't be one of them. It's been a long time since I've gotten upset over any kind of game.

IMHO, the Texans don't have the horses to run with the good teams in the league 2021 but that's not going to last forever. I see 2022 as their bounce-back year.

I predict the Texans oline will be respectable again.

Watching Devlins oline the past few years and hearing former players talk about him I can tell fundamentals wasn't something that was drilled home. Which for an oline is basically a death sentence.

This coach won me over in the first few minutes talking about fundamentals, footwork and hand placement. I expect tunsil to look like a best tackle in the league candidate again. I also expect to see some of the young guys take a step forward.

I know the kind of coach devlin is. I've seen them in live action. They are the kind that completely stifle growth and cause regression in a lot of cases.

Texans probably would've been better off with youtube tutorials for the oline Instead of devlin. Another wtf was OB thinking decision.

But I like the way this new guy talks about the position. He sounds like he knows wtf he's talking about.
Exactly. When I think of all of OB's mistakes -- Hoyer, Mallet, Savage, FA's, dumb contracts, trades -- it was his bizarre compulsion to keep Devlin that was the most destructive and revealing. Any one of us could've read a book about O-line coaching and taught those guys better.

If BOB was the GM for more than one season I would agree with you.

The Devlin part of the post I agree with. I said Devlin was going to get BOB fired. BOB's biggest failure IMHO was not being able to put together a top notch staff. While I dont think the current staff is great, Culley has certainly upgraded the asst coaches.

OB was an insecure coach. He wanted lackies more than competent coaches. He didn’t want a top notch coordinator b/c he would view him as someone the team could turn to in the event they were ready to move away from him.

Yep, also why he pushed the front office out the door too.. That's on Cal for allowing it to happen though.

..That is really not the hill I'd die on. The division's incompetence made BOB that. Let's be real here. That is just one of multiple different advantages Billy had going for him.

That stat carries very little weight Steelb
I'm not going to die on that hill.

Just pointing out facts.
