Poll - Who should Texans take @ #67?

Who should they take?

Did you mis type Strong?
No, very early in the game. What I do like about Howell is he went from high school and started NC first game as a true freshman. No one has ever done that for NC. His high school stats surpass those of Trevor Lawrence. Much of NC success the last two years can be attributed to Howell. Another guy I will be keeping my eye on is Cincinnati Bearcats QB, Desmond Ridder.

Forget QBs, WRs and RBs, teams that control the line of scrimmage are the teams that WIN! Why I subscribe to rebuilding from the inside out. Meinerz dominated at the senior bowl and 33 reps he is plenty strong and ran a sub 5.0 so he's plenty fast.
Winning in the trenches is indeed key but Texans pass rush last season was turrible.
Fix the Dline and that also helps out the D backfield.
The oline will be much improved from last year.

Hopefully a trade of Dashaun will allow us to accomplish improving both sides.
True but I really can't see it happening until next season now.
If it does before then, it will most likely be after the draft unless someone drops a bombshell on draft day. But it will still need to be a strong offer.

I agree and think it will be a strong offer or we will just hold him. I can still see a post June 1st trade that includes players drafted next week. We still have several days for movement on the claimants charges.

At this juncture the best thing that can happen for the Texans regarding DW4 is for the Commissioner to suspend DW4 without pay for the 2021 season.

What are you talkin about? The best thing would be nothing at all.
DW4 is done as a TEXAN. He wants no part them and they want no part of him. It's Over! By a full year suspension w/o pay, they don't have to pay him, he doesn't play subjecting himself to career ending injury, his 5 year salary cap friendly remains intact and his full value is enhanced at the beginning of a new league year, 2022 when there are more knowns and certainties as there was this past Jan & Feb.

I agree that W is done for the Texans but I want as much as we can get for him and that entails no suspension from the commissioner as well as no prison time. A post June 1st trade spreads his dead money over two years. I understand your thinking on eliminating the 21.6 dead money cap but that does not bring players to the roster.

What he said. A year suspension does nothing but hammer Watson’s value. Which has already been diminished. Besides, no way that happens in 2021. Watson will not have these cases run through the courts by then. And if he settles, there will be a gag order. The most realistic outcome will be Watson on the exempt list. Where he will get paid.

The best way to maximize DW4 value is to trade him weeks, months before the draft. 2021 draft has passed and is now a none issue, not going to happen.

So in order to maximize DW4 value is to trade him just prior to the 2022 draft is the best option. A suspension w/o pay preserves his $10MM 2021 salary and moves it to 2022 (increases value) and keeps his 5 year contract intact starting in 2022. If Commissioner puts DW4 on exempt list the Texans must pay him lose that year of his contract (creates less value).

If DW4 is only suspended for 6 games he can come back and get paid for sitting and not to mentioned if he decided to play he could get seriously injured which could really diminsh his trade value.

The $21.6 million in dead money creates value because the trading team does not have to pay it. Eat it, it's worth it. It doesn't bring players to the roster but it does create additional draft capital which means more and better players.

A year long suspension not only preserves DW4 value but increases it. Think of it this way, the Texans have the #1 pick in this years draft and will take Trevor Lawrence and trade DW4. The bidding and auction for DW4 would be off the charts and the Texans could end up with another Top 5 pick and a whole lot more. The same could happen in 2022.

A year away from football will NOT diminish DW4's ability to play QB or his value. It may be better in the end depending how desperate teams are for a QB beginning in 2022.

There won't be any prison time.
Both sides appear to be working toward a settlement and Watson would be wise to take it.
He will still likely be suspended by the NFL.

This is what I think would happen if there isn’t a conviction. If we trade him (which I think we will eventually), I think the Eagles or the Bears would be prime trading partner candidates. I think we’d have 2 top 15 picks in 2022.

If you're trading for DW4 ask yourself these 3 little questions;

1. Would you rather trade for a 4 year contract or a 5 year contract?

2. Would you rather DW4's first year be a 5 year contract with a salary and cap hit of $10MM OR a 4 year contract with a salary and cap hit of $35MM?

3. Which one has more value?

Value increases when there are known knowns an certainties like when the beginning of the 2021 puzzle was complete. The puzzle to the beginning of the 2022 league year has mostly missing pieces and an enormous amount of uncertainties that could double the value when they're actually known. You are making decisions to trade DW4 on supposition and guessing instead of actual facts. What if your suppositions and guesses end up in a dumpster fire?

I just want to use everyday of the next six waiting for the draft and a possible settlement. Also it is a possibility that Houston could have a team pick for them in 2021 draft and didn't make the deal after June 1st all the way up to September.

Another possibility I posted elsewhere is that Philadelphia could trade us Bennett and 3 round ones in 2022. If I were the Eagles that is what I would offer and keep 1.12 + 2.37 this draft.

Well I think and hope you are right on Prison but that is still just an opinion and we don't know until it is resolved.

You are aware that he is under contract for 5 years correct? If I were to trade for him it would be now where I would only pay for 10.5 million base salary for 2021. That is what I have been advocating for.

Unless there is a settlement prior to the season, Watson will end up on the exempt list. No trades if this happens.

Everybody can have a dream I suppose.

Caserio has a deep hole to dig out of after DW4/BOB screwed the Texans org.

That would be my preference. I also prefer a suspension w/o pay vs being exempt and getting paid.

I really hope through different avenues they take all of his $$$$. Maybe that will humble his azz. Then maybe he will become the QB many on this MB think he is. Unfortunately this probably will happen with a team other than the Texans.

I told one of the guys that worked for me yrs ago, he was a great guy and was going to make a great employee for somebody else 1 day after he grew up. It was like I was a prophet. I could see the same thing happening with DW4 if he can change his lifestyle and his approach to the game.

Did the simulator and got RB- Javonte Williams, NC at 67.....then C- Quinn Meinerz, UWW in RD4. Not totally out of realm of possibilities based on the players I watched going off the board ahead of both players.

#67 - Quinn Meinerz OC plug and play for 10 years.

love me some Quinn Meirnerz, but sure seems more in the mold of a Raider.

Have three teams I'm playing role of GM for in a different market but always going to take Texans if offered. All the options listed up top are off the board by pick #67 so realistically player is going to come out of a deep positional group, like OL, CB or WR.

Terrace Marshall Jr., WR LSU 6-3 205

Big target catching radius type who has elite size/speed. Scored #3 in RAS among WR Class, with 9.77 out of 10. For those who are wondering what RAS is, its your Relative Athletic Score based off measureables (size/weight) and testing (Explosion, Speed and Agility). Ja'Marr Chase tested just above him 9.81 so he has elite traits. Think replenishing WR position early a must going forward and would pair very well with Cook. Another comp would be DK Metcaff, Seattle WR out of Old Miss, he scored a 9.66 RAS so you get the picture.

If Marshall drops to 67, that draft pick better be in to the league in nano seconds.

I read that Marshall got a red flag on his knee at the medical checks.

With that said, if it's not to bad I would pick him. 1st rd talent in the 3rd rd.

making with deep WR class, that is a strong possibility why he is there #67. You haven’t lost a step steelbtexan good to see you stay on top of things:logo:

If RB- Javonte Williams, North Carolina somehow finds himself still on the board at 67.....do you pass him up if WR- Terrance Marshall, Jr, LSU is there as well?

36. MIA Mecho Javonte Williams RB UNC
38. CIN Fleet Terrace Marshall WR LSU

I would believe this to be a more accurate representation of where they’d get picked. Like I mentioned, based on where I got JW in the sim....it wouldn’t be that unreasonable based on the players being picked through 66.

This provides a more realistic window into actually how the draft will unfold. Plenty of trades too. Did not expect Payton Turner to be available #67 but it’s close, real close. Some good corners still available, couple tackles, lot of guards/centers, run on WR has began. Texans have lot of late picks, see if Casero packages those to move up?

Williams can run, catch, and he rarely fumbles. Good vision and "runs like a tank but has more shimmy than you'd think". Even though the Texans are set at running back this season, both Ingram and Johnson are on the wrong side of 30. Phillip Lindsay rounds out the RB trio that will all be free agents in 2022.

I'd take Williams with no hesitation.

early 2nd not early 3rd. is where he’s slotted.
