Welcome to Houston David Culley, Head Coach

The way I see it. If the Texans trade DW4 to the Jets and draft Zach Wilson, Watson will be more successful over the next 5 years. If the Texans keep DW4 and the Jets draft Zach Wilson, Wilson will be more successful over the next 5 years. This sums up my feelings about Cal, Nick, Jack and Dave.

How close is an Asst. Head Coach to a Coordinator? He has been Asst. Head Coach for 3 or 4 years and interviewed in 2014 when BOB was hired. This guy has plenty of experience and could put an offense in like Baltimore ran. Let's give him a chance before we bash him too bad.
That's Greg Roman's offense in Baltimore..

Culley was in charge of coordinating the passing in that offense..

The passing..

in that offense..

I thought the reason we turned around 2018 after 0-3 was our great culture? TEAM first character guys that never quit. They keep talking about this guy and culture like we just had Jimmy Johnson (without the winning) here w/ guys doing crack in the locker room. All BOB brought us was culture and AFC South championships. The culture problems didn't happen until Easterby went into action. What exactly is supposed to be different? BOB without the cussing?

What bothers me the most is that we have to give away 2 third round draft picks for an unproven HC, making it a little harder for him too. Why do we always give away draft picks?

Easterby = Little Finger/Cal = Fredo Corleone
Lol, who in the hell knows if EB is going to be a “good HC” and Culley won’t be? And making pronouncements on what kind of job Culley will do before he’s even coached 1 damn practice...lol, some of you guys are ridiculous....and I see it’s about time for me to take another hiatus from this board..
I hope I’m wrong. I hope that a 65 year old journeyman LIFELONG POSITION COACH with ZERO NFL play calling experience, ZERO NFL offensive coordinator experience and ZERO NFL experience as the Head Coach will be better than any of the other candidates. Stop being so soft, we’re disagreeing about a coaching hire not dividing Palestine and Israel.

I’m not sure I possess the vocabulary with which to properly convey all my feelings about this choice.

It smacks of “Hey look, we’ve got another fine upstanding Christian dude who says the right things!” He’ll make a nice bookend for Easterby and Caserio.

Never been a HC at any level.
Only real coordinator job was at UTEP.
Last job was passing coordinator for a team that had the 32nd ranked passing attack.
Gets to start his first HC job during a massive rebuild at 65.

Honestly, I wish him all the luck in the world, he’s going to need every iota he can get... and better coordinators than seem to be available at this late date to help him.

Don’t know anything about him but his age. The Bucs hired Arians at 68 but were only a few pieces away.

The Texans are a lot further away. Do you really want to rebuild a franchise with a 65 year old head coach? Asking for a friend.
let's see how much he is getting per season. He might coach through 2022 and then be replaced.

What could have been...the ******* incompetence of this team.
Imo you're jumping the gun buddy. Job 1 is to get Watson back in the fold. He's already "said" who we hire doesn't matter.

The Texans did what they did & now it's time to see if 4 responds favorably.

If he's out, you're correct. 100% correct. But if comes home, they did something right.

But Culley, why the hell not EB? Or Eferblus or whatever his name is.
NO ONE had Culley on their radar, NOBODY!

Andy Reid was a “lifelong position coach” and was never an OC....he in fact was actually a position coach longer than Culley has been before he got his 1st HC gig with the Eagles.same for Harbaugh.

John Harbaugh was a ST coach & never called plays in an NFL game (even though he’s a former qb) before he got the Ravens gig.

Also Neither of those guys had been HC’s before.

These are 2 of the better HC’s in the game bro. Me thinks you’re the only one being soft b/c your guy wasn’t picked.

Ravens were ranked dead last in passing last season and the Texans hire their "Passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach."!
Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
Remember when the Titans hired that Vrabel guy after his defense finished in the bottom quartile of every defensive category?

Then his team beat our team. Then they got to the AFCCG after we were bounced out of the divisional round (as usual)?

How has Culley ever excelled in his career to deserve this job? He's been nothing than a position coach his entire career! never been a OC or DC...ever!

please remind me how old Reid and Harbaugh were when they were hired as head coaches.
Culley has been a member of AARP almost as long as they’ve been head coaches.

Yeah....none of y’all were thinking anything was wrong with the Ravens passing game in 2019 when LJ8 threw for 36 TD’s and was the mvp. now that we hired the architect of that passing game and the Ravens took a little step back last year, it’s a problem...funny how that works.

I don't know what to think about him either.

But to clarify, he was assistant HC in Baltimore & before the Bills gig he was assistant HC in Kansas City.

Speaking of which, wasn't Harbaugh a STs coach?

Culley checks a lot of the usual Texans corporate boxes here

Watson has had positive experience with him. (if even matters)
Cal (Christian)
Easterby (not power hungry)
Nick c. (solid respected football guy)
NFL (minority hire)
Texans fans (underwhelming and easy criticize)
Sums it up perfectly.

Took a LITTLE STEP back, really?

Who gives a rats ass how old he is? Carroll was 60 when he got the Seahawks gig and still shows more energy and enthusiasm on the sidelines than fat ass Andy Reid has ever shown. Kubiak was younger than him but was on the sidelines having a coronary on national TV. If the dude can coach and get it done, who the hell cares if he’s older than the average HC.

The Texans aren't giving away picks those are comp picks at the end of the 3rd rd.

BTW, If RS ever gets hired as GM do the Texans get comp picks?
