Watson’s a top 5 qb. Do you agree?

Right now Kurt Warner is commenting on Jared Goff & Kyler Murray struggling to handle pressure. He is showing how there is an answer in the scheme. Showing open receivers. Then showing what they did, which was a bad answer to a bad situation.

I’ve never seen him do this kind of video for Watson. It’s possible I missed it. Have any of you seen Warner literally showing open receivers Watson should have thrown to, to better handle pressure?

What the heck do they see in David Johnson in practice to justify putting him on the field?

They split him out wide a couple of times, like they did Duke the last two weeks. & it was a matchup we couldn't win. Had that been Duke that matchup would have been in our favor.

Da. Johnson better be one of the cap casualties come the offseason .... he's been a total disappointment.

As for Watson , he made several big plays but he also let quite a few easy opportunities go. I think the all22 will be hard to watch this week.

Ball has to come out quicker.

Heck of a way to lose a football game ....

That will always be the case with Watson... and I like it! At the end of the day, he put his team in position to win, but his teammate(s) let him down.

I think we all like the big plays .... but damnit , those negative or net zero plays have to be reduced.

I'd give him a pass for this one but Cooks , Coutie and that practice squad WR played pretty well. They beat man and found soft spots in zones.

There was a LOT of underneath stuff that was there for the taking and true to form , Watson forced the deeper stuff and it cost him on multiple plays / drives.

Even on the safety , there was a crossing route wide open .... I'm not gonna hold that one against him cause the rush was hot and heavy but it was there to be had if he got it out fast.

Its not very often you see Watson hit the top of his drop and let it fly ...

I know some of you think I'm overly critical and was thinking today what the reaction to my take on todays game was gonna be here .... and I know exactly what's coming cause everyone thinks he played well today but the reality is he was his own worst enemy and defenses are still playing to keep him in the pocket , the Colts were no different.

Much of the pressure he faced today could have been avoided by taking the layups.

Have at it .... I know what's coming.

I think the coaches have been avg while he's been here and the talent around him has been good enough. What bothers me is his playing style hasn't changed at all in the 4 yrs he's been in the NFL. I dont see this changing anytime soon. You do with a new HC. Nothing wrong with this Fact is as of right now DW4's not good enough to bring a Lombardi to Kirby right now regardless of who the HC is. IMHO

You think differently and that's OK. I dont think that you're one of those WOF that puts how DW4 plays above the team like some on here do. We just have to agree to disagree. Good thing is we will know who's right or wrong in a couple of yrs. (God willing)

If guys like Dilfer, Flacco, Foles and Brad Johnson can win a Super Bowl, Watson is good enough

I have no qualms w/ your takes. You want a more conservative approach to the offense, while personally, I want a more aggressive approach. I'm not going to argue Watson played a perfect game, or even a near perfect game, but considering the circumstances... extremely happy with his play today.

Agree. At some points in the game, the top 4 WRs were missing. I have more of an issue with the game plan. Where were the TEs? Why are we back to running plays with WRs all at the same yard line, no quick plays? Today felt like one of those game plans where they did not have a defined plan to attack the defense. It felt like a "read and react" game plan instead of a proactive attack at weaknesses on the Colts defense.

On today's post game show, Stoerner said sometimes, Watson starts his progressions from one side of the field and something gets open quick on the other side of the field. Sometimes, his progressions are to look deep and things open up underneath. It's all about the progressions and it's hard to just say something is open underneath without understanding the progressions on the play.

I dont see how you could be happy with the offensive output in the 2nd half of today's game. Is the bar really set that low?

There were quick passes open today. The problem is the same as it's always been. He's slow in reading his progressions consistently. Until this speeds up it will be more of the same. I would've said this even if the Texans had won today.

Yeah ... He's good enough. Those guys were very fortunate to have great teams around them.

Watson , not so much. For this team to win , he has to be lights out. Its like every play is a critical one .... so it really magnifies when he does make a mistake , even a small one.

I just hope they get the HC / GM hires right and turn this mess around.

True, I dont see how the new regime can turn it around for at the soonest 3 yrs.

My only complaint was his approach to the situation when he was in the end zone. I thought he luckily avoided the safety on the down before he actually got sacked. But there he was doing the same thing again.

I know he’s a smart kid, but nothing he did on that possession was smart.

Imagine if he wasn't a smart kid.

And no, I'm not saying he's dumb or the S-Word.

Are you worried about the Colts offense. I'm not

just putting it out there that our offense are not the only ones that scored zero points in the second half today. Defense adjusted for both teams in the second half.

I'm still suprised they couldn't blow out this 31st ranked defense (or something)

Maybe we can trade him for Russell Wilson. Oh, no, that guy sucks too. Never mind.

Speaking of the safety. Look at Fulton and Martin on that play. How does Fulton get five yards behind the entire DL on a passing play? When you consider the pressure came from the middle, who did he block?

I understand Watson's thinking on that play. It's 3rd and 11. He clearly sees Akins to his left. I think he saw the linebackers headed up field and thought he could hold off a little longer to let the middle of the field clear out so Akins could get YAC. And it looks like it would have gone for a decent gain, but the protection broke down a split second earlier than it needed to. Could it have gone out earlier? Maybe. But he's taking a 5-step drop there and he braces for the sack almost immediately after that last step.

Fulton stayed with his guy too long

I don't think it is just Fulton here - you have Nick Martin blocking air (and loosing) he is still staring at one man rushing and being double-teamed, by the time he checks the other side of the line the rusher is already past him, where he falls down (from blocking air). Yes, Fulton stayed with his block too long. But Martin is the weakest link on the line in my opinion.

Because we needed 11 yards for a first down. You're typically not going to get 11 yards on a passing play that requires only a 3-step drop.

The final play against Kansas City last year (regular season) came on a 4th and 3. This play was 3 steps and ball out. The drop was obviously going to be different if it was a 4th and 13.

You have to give the Colts defense credit. They seem very familiar with the Texans' offense and tendencies. @Corrosion is correct on how they are rushing to keep Watson in the pocket. However, what gets overlooked is the Colts were able to generate pressure with only four DL and then allowed LBs to drop in coverage. If you look at many of the plays, multiple WRs are going into the zones and two WRS are easily defended by one defender who is ready to jump the passes. As a result, Watson is holding the ball to allow the WRs to either get between the LB and DB or find the soft zone. Here is a good example of how the Colts were defending the pass.

Deshaun Watson is a bonifide franchise QB and Steelbtexan is a dumbass when picking QBs, dude was coko for Blake ******* Bortles..

Bottles was Texian's guy, not mine.

If you're going to call me names atleast get your posters straight who you're trying to disparage

Whatever happened to the attack the post not the poster rule around these parts?

If I want to find a way to place blame on DW on that series, which appears to be the game here, it would be on that 2nd down play. Looks like an easy, routine pass to DJ. Pick up the easy 5 yards, make it 3rd & 5, and you eliminate the possibility of a safety.

What was going on at 1st down? Don't know, need the all-22. Need to keep in mind who the receivers are. Guys not getting open, or possibly running the wrong route, wouldn't surprise me.

On 3rd, I don't know how you place any blame on DW. As the QB, you never expect guys to rush up the A-gap untouched. Especially on a non-blitz.

Calmer head this morning. Still disappointed in his approach in that situation. I understand we can't run the ball, but what was Tim Kelly thinking?

They're not paying Martin enough to handle those intricate stunts.

You can't take a safety on that play.
