2021 Texans disarray or chugging along?

Unlike the WCO or Coryall, or whatever. The EP doesn’t have staple formations or methodologies. It’s not about what they do. It’s more about how they communicate.

think about how the Patriots offense changes depending on who is on their team & who they are playing.

I’ve been reading up on the Saints offense because I always thought they ran an EP system. & readingPeyton describe it, it does sound EP. He talks about concepts, he talks about many formations, same play. & the play calls sound EP.

But yes, it also has a West Coast flavor.
You can't have a discussion like this with 76 even though Payton learned at the feet of the guy the offense was literally named for.

Did you watch the games are or you reading a stat sheet.

6 games and counting.

You think he played well against the Bills? LMAO
Watched every minute of the game. What did OB do on the very next offensive drive after the scoring drive. They, OB/Kelly, call 2 runs into the pile. That is not the way to keep the offensive train on the tracks......instead, let's derail the momentum right away. That is 100% OB play calling and if it was Kelly, then OB has Kelly wearing an ear piece so he can receive the play call.

Get it from his peer (Callahan, who spent time with Payton and Gruden on the WCO).

Callahan specifically calls it "the Sean Payton West Coast Offense".

Earhardt was Parcells OC and Payton learned under him.

The Saints aren't running the WCO is my point.
Start from here:

Go to full coaching history.
You'll see that Payton broke into the NFL coaching rank with the Eagles, where Gruden and Callahan were already employed.
Payton learned the WCO there.
Look at the Eagles team page, it tells you the offensive scheme a team run.

Next, go to the Giants team page.
When Payton arrived there, Jim Fassell was already the HC for two years, and he was running the WCO.

That was why Payton got his new gig.

You just confused yourself by assuming that Parcells was with the Giants then.

Payton & Erhardt timeline

Payton began his coaching career in 1988 as an offensive assistant at San Diego State University. He made a series of assistant coaching positions at Indiana State University, Miami University (offensive coordinator), Illinois, and again at San Diego State (running backs coach), before landing a job as the quarterbacks coach with the Philadelphia Eagles in 1997

1997-1998 Payton was quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles and worked with offensive coordinator Jon Gruden and offensive line coach Bill Callahan. In 1998, Gruden and Callahan left for the Oakland Raiders, and Eagles head coach Ray Rhodes and Payton were fired.

In 1999, Payton was hired as the quarterbacks coach for the New York Giants and was promoted to the role of offensive coordinator in 2000. Jim Fassel was the HC when Payton was hired.

Payton joined Bill Parcells and the Cowboys as an assistant head coach and a quarterbacks coach in 2003. In 2005, he was promoted by Parcells to assistant head coach/passing game coordinator.

Payton was hired by the Saint in 2006.

Erhardt was hired as offensive coordinator by the Giants in 1982. In 1992 Erhardt left to go to the Steelers.

Erhardt announced his retirement on January 12, 1998.

Unless I'm just flat out missing it I don't see where Payton ever coached under Erhardt & he only worked with Parcells from 2003 through 2005.

I'm sure there are all kinds of cross-overs / influences as these coaches spent time with one another over their career.

Fassell, for example, is a direct descendant from the Bill Walsh coaching tree, but he also spent sometimes with Bill Parcells.

I always admired you here. Not because you said something I agreed with but because you said something you believed in.

This time we part ways. Obrien is the problem. I have no faith in this season.
The main reason, yes

The only reason, no

Down by 17 in the 3rd qt, not unreasonable to come back, yet the offense averaged 27 second after snap to run a play. That put them 18th. Look, its hard to be aggressive when you're a counter puncher. Thats what O'Brien offensive game plan has been since he's been here. Under Kubiak, you know that if you couldn't stop those zone runs, it was trouble. Since O'Brien has been here, teams don't believe they have to stop anything consistent because they don't do anything consistent. Again, nothing looks like nothing. Their run action dont look like their pass action. He doesn't highlight anything to make the defense adjust. Looking at this roster, especially on offense, this should be 11 personel with Akins as the TE. They should kill the middle of the field with him and work everything off that.

It is getting harder & harder for me to tell one from another since most offensive schemes are always evolving & incorporating pieces from other styles including college ball.
Professor ButtChin clearly has NOT gotten the memo!

Want to bump this with a win behind us (play on words)and one day before taking on Tennessee. I think Texans played much better but realize Minshew played a role in Texans win.

A sloppy win will not satisfy me. I say team still in disarray but a solid win against 4-0 Titans with minimal injuries would push me to chugging along with a smile. Last week probably just "He's gone" whether you for or against #4. This should be another step up for Dashaun increased stats or not; he should have a very good game moving more detractors to his side.

Derrick Henry an entirely different back than we faced last week. He tweeted he was so focused on stiff arming the DB he wasn't aware of where he was. He will focus on yardage this week. If we can hold him to less that 4 yards per carry, we should win even though Bills did and lost.

I did get a question answered on Scharping. Kelemete took LG away from him...according to Tim Kelly. I didn't see it last Sunday but I'm focusing on Kelemete Sunday. Perhaps injuries made him look like why you use Charmin last season.

Where for art thou Gareon Conley?
