Texans random thought of the day

You dont know this.

His talent level would fit excellently with what BOB wants to do. Mahomes even without Reid has generational talent (Rodgers like) and yes Reid has helped him reach that level but the gifts (Which DW4 and most other human beings dont have) are and always have been there.

God I wish the Texans weren't so dysfunctional and RS would've given up the 3rd to get Mahomes. That one decision is going to set this franchise back atleast another 5 yrs regardless of who the HC is.

I love Mahomes and wanted him in the draft. However, Watson won me over. I think he is just as capable. The only difference in my mind is this: Mahomes and Watson are in a foot race. Mahomes is wearing track shoes (Chiefs/Reid) while Watson is wearing steel toed boots (Texans/O'Brien).

DW4 doesn't suck, he was a top 10-15 QB at the end of the yr. But he's not Mahomes and all of the DW4's as good as Mahomes IF crowd will never admit this.

He’s not Mahomes, who cares.

and he’s better than 10-15 lol.

He’s good enough to shine on an offense featuring one of the dullest minds on any NFL team as OC.

Shoot I could win with Watson as QB.

What has DW4 done to win you over? In 3 yrs he's regressed. Going into yr 4 there is still a debate if DW4's worth 35 mil per yr. You should know this for sure by now. Kinda like the Chiefs are sure about Mahomes and on the other end of the scale the Bears are sure about Trubisky.

What makes you willing to gamble 150-160 mil on this guy after seeing his play at the end of last season? It's a bad bet. IMHO But hey, what's another 5 yrs of mediocrity amongst friends.

Great analogy bud. This is the best description

No I just dont like the narrative that if DW4 was with Reid he would be doing what Mahomes has done narrative around these parts. It demeans Mahomes talent/leadership qualities. DW4 has nowhere near the natural talent level Mahomes has and DW4 could only hope to do as well with Reid as Mahomes has.

Do you think Mahomes would do better in BOB's system than DW4 has? Do you think Mahomes has done better than DW4 would do in Reid's system?

I just dont like the DW4's as good as Mahomes crowd and all of their IF's.

I don’t think Watson would have near the success in Reid’s system. He doesn’t have the same ability and Reid unlocking his ceiling still wouldn’t bring him into Mahomes territory.

I think most reasonable people would agree with that. But I think they would also say you don’t have to take shots at Watson to prove that.

I think Watson is better built for OB’s system as it is currently designed. Mahomes would have way more INTs and sacks.

But I think if OB could ever put the offense on the field that he’s trying to build on paper then he would be a fool to choose Watson over Mahomes.

Disagree, he wasn't even top 10 for the last 7 games last yr. Dull/sharp whatever. I'm not paying this guy 35 mil per yr. More excuses, when is DW4 going to improve his weaknesses. Of course you probably dont think DW4 has weaknesses and all of his faults are on BOB.

You sure have a high opinion of yourself, good thing is if they dont re-up him and DW4 doesn't get injured with the new weapons on offense they should know what they have with DW4 going into next offseason. Hopefully they dont make the mistake of re-signing him before the end of this season.

He is 24-13 including rookie season (16 games) and has a passer comp of 67%. He has taken Texans to both postseasons he completed 16 games.
QBs with those kind of stats get paid.

He will get paid, but hopefully not until after this season.

Amazing he was able to put up those stats with a mouth breather as his OC.

Yes, Mahomes would be perfect for what BOB wants to run and I can guarantee you 51-7 wouldn't happen with Mahomes under C. There's a reason BOB wanted Mahomes in that draft and a reason RS didn't draft Mahomes.

Mahomes has more natural ability and has better leadership skills. He's a guy who in 2 yrs has lead his team to an AFCCG and a SB victory. Giving Reid all of the credit is shortchanging how great Mahomes has been the last 2 yrs.
Mahomes may have more natural arm talent but there is no way you can say he has better leadership skills. His resume speaks profoundly of the position Andy Reid has placed him in. C'mon man, when speaking of Watson you make it seem that its all or mostly on him when referencing the KC playoff loss. However, when speaaking on OB in regards to the KC playoff loss you state they (the Texans) got beat by the better TEAM. To be honest, I haven't followed Mahomes that much but is his development that much more than Watson? The games I have watched he is throwing to wide open WRs or to a spot that he knows they will be there due to the speed of those WRs AND Reid's routes in his plays. Flip the QBs and Mahomes will probably have the same results here as Watson. You absolutely cannot devalue the difference in the HCs. The gap between the coaching ability of Reid and OB is light years greater than the gap between Mahomes and Watson. Watson is the QB and he deserves to be extended, now that insane amount of money is a product of the NFL itself.

The funniest thing about this entire post is when you realize how many teams in the NFL would pay Watson.

I agree with most of this but I believe Watson would be lighten up the league to if he was with KC. He wouldn’t be sack as often since they have a top 5 offensive line. Another example: Watson’s rookie year, dude was on fire in spite of the piss poor offensive line play. Reid would probably get the same exact results if he had Watson

Spot the freakaziod on. I agree 1000%. People have to factor in everything, especially coaching.

And I would be surprised if it is anything less that 40 per. If you get him done for less you have done well.
Sure, he wasn't perfect down the stretch last year but you have to take the whole body of work into consideration.
You also have to take into consideration that he can only get better. It's in his dna to succeed.

even funnier when these guys put on their kneepads for OBrien after year 6 and then have the audacity to hold Watson to task after 2.5 years? LMAO.

Watson is gonna hit this team for 50Ms per year and I'm gonna love every minute of it!!

O’Brien would trade him for a 3rd long before that happened.

I don't think he'll get that much but I bet that will be the starting point. He's probably told his agent to ask really big. After seeing what Tunsil can get on his own the agent must be licking his chops right about now.

I dont like some of the down and distance calls BOB makes. However It didn't seem as though BOB truly trusted DW4 last yr. This yr with the new speed outside and the best slot in Texans history. With Kelly calling the plays hopefully DW4 improves his issues, because there will be guys open. Hopefully we see more Atlanta DW4 and less Tampa DW4.

True, I don't know this. That's why I specified "in my opinion".

But I'm simply making a claim, similar to your claims that we can't win a SB w/ Watson. You don't know that either, but I understand we're all just expressing our opinions.

I actually think DW4 has shown he is very good when he has the pre snap reads and knows where to go with the ball, and when the play breaks down and he creates. When you make him read, he can take time to process and gets itchy in the pocket and starts that shake and bake. So I see this 70% on Tim Kelly to do what he needs to do with offensive sets and motion to make his pre snap read very clear. For the second case, the OL holding up will help him a lot and he needs to calm himself in the pocket. So Tim Kelly, OL getting more solid, and DW4 staying calm could really make DW4 shine. Over time I expect him to continue to progress on reads, but this is what this guy sees. I just have not seen BOB make the pre-snap as simple or the down and distance calls right, and is too predictable. Tim Kelly is my wildcard

Let them have at it. But give me a good package and I would take it. After this yr Rodgers is going to force his way out of Green Bay and this is the way I would go. Rodgers has another 3-5 yrs of greatness in him.

After 3 yrs how much do expect DW4 to improve calmness/making reads. BTW, I wouldn't bet on this happening, but I'm really looking forward to next yr.

He needs to cuddle up with Tunsil every night and feel protected. Tunsil can remind him I got your back and that the turnstile known as Chris Clark is again on the couch. Play calling Rhythm and getting some time because of play calls and better protection should undue some of the damage

Not only that, KC needs to hurry and get a deal done with Mahomes before OB blows the process all to hell with a 3 year $130M deal with $115M guaranteed for Watson.

Really? His leadership appeared to be lacking in the last NFC Championship Game

LOL, best team won, occasionally Rodgers can pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Do you think Rodgers will become available after 2021 and would you make a move to get him. I look at the Rodgers situation alot like I see the Manning Schaub thing. Difference is Rodgers should be able to play another 3-4 yrs.

Keep OB around for another 5 years and you'll be treated to a published Doctorate thesis on mediocrity. This man has done far more to prove his inabilities at every position he's chose to wear the lead hat at. Talking about regression....his ultimate high IQ offense has done nothing but suck the life out of every QB who's played for him. Again, I'm running OB's arse out of town far sooner than Watson's.

OB got a free pass b/c of RS, OB got another free pass after his own handpicked GM, BG. Now some in here want to give him another free pass b/c Watson wasn't his handpicked QB. He's done nothing to justify another free pass. On the other hand, Watson has been hamstrung by playing exclusively for OB....yet it's time to run him out of town b/c he hasn't overcome OB's shortcomings as a HC/ OC and won AFCCG or SB....the man has been good enough to save OB's arse for 3 years while the defense sucked. That's why OB hasn't talked about running his meal ticket out of town.

Aaron Rodgers is under contract until the end of 2023. Either way, no disrespect, but these hypothetical trades for future HOFers that people discuss are a bit ridiculous. The odds of one of the greatest QBs of all time coming here are extremely unlikely. You could literally discuss player in the league going anywhere. Aaron Rodgers has no ties here and no rhyme or reason as to why he’d wanna leave GB to retire as a Texan so I find this a bit of a fairy tale more than anything.

They just drafted his replacement.

He's going to get the Favre treatment.

"they sent a message to 36-year-old Aaron Rodgers that his playing days in Green Bay were probably limited."

“Public niceties aside, my sense is LaFleur, fresh from a terrific 13-3 baptismal season, simply had enough of [Aaron] Rodgers’ act and wanted to change the narrative,” Bob McGinn of The Athletic

"According to the article, Rodgers’ “passive-aggressive style” has caused issues in the past and was likely a contributing factor to Mike McCarthy’s firing a year ago."

If he does leave GreenBay, I could see him in a Jaguars uniform.

I think the Texans will have a better record this season than either the Patriots or Tampa Bay.

I give you NE but I dunno about Tampa …. they could be pretty solid.

And really , I don't think this Texans team got better this offseason while division rivals made improvements …. particularly Indy getting Rivers while Tennessee made it to the AFC Championship game last year and only got better …. Jax is a wildcard with their QB situation but they have a solid team around Minshew.

This years Texans could finish last in the division ….

Even if thats the case, and Jordan Love is their starter in 2021, there is no reason or justification to believe Rodgers would come here. Sure, its a hypothetical situation, but you could discuss virtually any player coming here or elsewhere in the future. If we part ways with Watson, the most likely scenario is replacing him in the draft or signing a mid-tier QB until we find our future QB.

He gets a pass because of RS in my book. Tell me which QB's did he pick out and which QB's has he had to develop? Gaine getting fired was a HR problem. DW4's shortcoming are holding the team back. IMHO The reason he hasn't talked about getting rid of DW4 is because 1. DW4 sells tickets. 2. They aren't going to find a QB better than DW4 until after the 2021 season.

Dont want to talk about ways to improve at the QB position I see.

Ok, so leaving Green Bay is a strong possibility. Any discussion of him coming here though are way too premature and unwarranted.

I do, but I think discussing Aaron Rodgers coming here is FAR too premature and unwarranted.

Talking about any QB coming here is far too premature, in fact it's 5 yrs too premature. The Texans are stuck in a bad situation for the next 5 yrs. A QB that's good enough to win games against avg defenses but not championships.

Why not? LOL .. If I were Deshaun I'd use the Laremy Tunsil school of thought. Why get handcuffed for a bunch of years? Sign a 3 year deal at 50Ms per. Comes out cheaper in the long run for the team, and gives Watson an out if this thing goes to hell.

I can see short contracts like this getting more popular with players and teams alike for the reasons you state. Gives the player a chance to get back into the FA market while still young, and allows the team an easy out if they don't live up to their potential.

LMAO, talking about possible upgrades in the future is in no way premature. Is talking about Watt's possible retirement way to premature? There was athread started about it. Maybe you should wander over there and let your thoughts be known in that thread too.

DW4's going to be re-signing and I hope this is the way both the Texans and DW4 go about doing a deal.
