Brandin Cooks to the Texans

Devil's advocate here - but wrong in what aspect? You more than most want BOB gone, if DW has to dump the ball off 20 times a game like you say (over-exaggeration) then doing so and not performing miracles would bring BOB's exit about faster?

Wrong in terms of trying to score points. If Watson ends up doing that then he'll get criticized even more.

I’m sure a pocket passer (O’Brien’s preferred type QB) would have fared so much better in that particular situation.

HOLY CRAP! That just gave me deja vu of the first game in 2017 when OBrien was miffed about being handed Deshaun Watson, and he pouted all summer camp and didnt allow Watson to get any run with the 1's and then I saw Tom Savage drop back for the first time that year and knew immediately he was doomed.

I've not been more distressed as a fan then that moment. It reminded me of my old junior high coach dropping back in QB drills! LOL

Besides Manning, I'm not sure those guys meet the prerequisite for that mythical OB QB. They hold onto the ball, move around too much and since they are right handed, they even have a tendency to drift right.
I mentioned Manning because it was his Houdini act in the SB that allowed the Giants to win. I'm pretty sure the Pats didn't see a QB just standing there in the pocket when Manning made that throw to Tyree.

YEsssss!!! The "drifting right" analysis/hypothesis I almost forgot about that gem! Nice!

If everybody stays healthy the OL will improve. They do need to add a couple of depth/Developmental guys.

The Texans need a RG in the worst way. I'd give Martin a pass for 2020 if the Texans could obtain a top RG athlete in the draft. If Martin is still getting rag-dolled this season.....this is the reason I want Cervanka in this draft as well. He'd have this season to learn the system and could be ready to replace Martin at Center in 2021.

2020
LT- Tunsil
LG- Scharping
OC- Martin
RG- Wlson
RT- Howard

2021
LT- Tunsil
LG- Scharping
OC- Cervanka
RG- Wilson

Watson didn't even have time to drop back ley alone set his feet. Both blockers got beaten so badly on that play. But this dude wants to blame Watson. Wow I might need to do what Earl is doing.

That play has been discussed alot! And even Watson explained how he recognized the blitz, was going to throw to his hot route, but the receiver stumbled. Combine that with the RT getting easily beat, there really weren't any options for him but to go into Houdini mode. Yes, follow Earl's footsteps. Just not worth it.

I don't really dislike him. He was awesome at one point. I just think the Rams dumped him because he's not good anymore

I understand being upset at the value given up compared to Cooks production last season.

I understand the optics, it looks like we're trying to replace Hopkins with a guy who barely gets had 500 yards receiving last season.

I understand we could have gotten a 500 yard receiver with 2.57 in the draft.

But I'm not sold on Cooks not being good anymore. Before last season he was the Rams leading receiver, going up against #1 defenders. Before that he was NE's leading receiver (maybe next to Gronk).

What injury history he has, is concussions some of them suspect. Concussions don't make you slow & has no long term effect on route running. So I'm not sold on him not being good anymore.

He still lead the Rams in YPC. & I think that may have more to do with his production than anything. I haven't watched the Rams, but it sounds like they weren't as explosive as they once were. Without Gurley, with poor pass protection did Goff become a check down machine?

A guy I really like is Hunt's Teammate Dotson. You can probably pick him in the 4th or 5th. That guy is nasty. I didn't really look at him until he was picked in the 5th rd of the TT mock draft.

I also didn't look at Hunt because I dont think the Texans will be looking at OG at 40, but that guys going to be a stud. Huge guy that moves really well.

Hopefully so. Perhaps they really just wanted out of his contract and he's still pretty good

Why did the #texans make the move for WR Brandin Cooks with such a deep WR class? Here’s what I’ve gathered.

Also remember with this offseason playing out in a fashion we’ve never seen, there is a thought rookie WRs might take longer to get up to speed. Cooks knows the system pic.twitter.com/A1VA10Rhsv

"Texans didn’t think they could get the right WR they wanted at 40th overall and thought Cooks was the safer prospect. Some teams are thinking the better WRs will be gone by the end of the 1st and early 2nd round; Texans not expected to take WR at 40th overall"

8 mil isn't that much $$$$ for a guy that's very good and knowing the team wont miss a beat when WFV gets hurt again. Cooks is a high end WR2 that has a few games a yr at high end WR1 numbers. What Cooks really does is threaten defenses vertically which opens things up for other guys.

He is one concussion from being done. So I am not sure that is any safer than Fuller.

Like the dump off to Duke on the GW drive against the Bills. Short pass, Duke makes a guy miss on 3rd and 9. 1st down.

If DJ isn't washed he can do this on a regular basis and with more speed at WR the defense should be stretched more so there should be more room for DJ to operate.
Laugh out loud you’re beloved new wide receiver group is about to get broke up again as they’re talking about trading steals and Kiki.

Half of O'Brien's plays still look a lot like this, just with slightly better OL and Watson being able to escape.

The other half are runs up the middle.

You’re exactly right!

I remember someone joking many years ago after it became apparent how bad O’Brien’s offense was that he needed pro bowlers at every position to make the offense work.

We will see about that, I didn't know you can see the future. How about sharing those winning lottery numbers with me.

BTW, I hope they don't trade Stills. Would you have a problem with them trading Coutee for a Hyde type RB?

They really miss Welker.

Basically, because we gave up too much for Tunsil, that forces us to give up too much for Cooks.

I didn't know they played the Cards last year.

Last year the ol was totally different than that garbage ol.

I’m gonna cry if Wilson is there and we pass on him at 40 unless we take hunt later.

Not predicting anything. Like I said there is talk about it now according to a source. Now how reliable the source is o don’t know.

With all that maneuvering, there are two incumbent wideouts who look like the odd men out, according to Aaron Wilson, the Texans beat writer for The Athletic. Kenny Stills and Keke Coutee are candidates to be traded (Stills) or released (Coutee) between now and the beginning of next season, Wilson reports.

Have you read CnD's thoughts on this. Sorry but I value his opinion on this subject much more than yours.

You can take my opinion with a grain of salt that is fine. The dude contemplated retirement over the concussion thing already. You know they get easier and easier to get and usually more and more difficult to recover from. I wouldn't be surprised to see him Austin Collie the heck out of the league if he gets another one.

This is a possibility.

But Doc posted he's recovered from all of his concussions by the next day. Grade 1 concussions aren't serious. I haven't read anywhere that Cooks has contemplated retirement.

Yea, so pay Nuk maybe?
No because it was just not the increase that Hopkins wanted but the precedent established for other players who could also then demand an increase in the middle of their contract. Not attacking you riblets but we have to look at the overall picture not just part of the picture. Issue with McNair shutting this down was not a just about paying more money to Hopkins.

Mussop can you offer any link to possible trades of Couttee and Stills? I am very interested in that! Thanks.
