Brandin Cooks to the Texans

I'm not saying what BOB wants his team to look like is what I want the team to look like. He correctly got out from under Clowney's contract demands and Nuk's too. Then he rebuilt the WR corps with the type of WR's we wants on HIS team. The WR corps now more closely resembles the Chiefs and you think this is a bad thing. I'm hoping for the best, it seems like you're hoping for the worst.

No where in my post do I mention anything about hoping for the worst. I'm just surprised you have been so quick to assimilate into the NRG collective about culture.

We can’t pay Hopkins but now 4 of our top 13 cap hits this year are WRs... And getting paid more than all of them is the guy we took back for Hopkins.

Oh and BOB definitely has a type..
Fuller - 6-0, 186, 4.33 speed
Stills - 6-0, 194, 4.38
Cooks - 5-10, 189, 4.33
Cobb - 5-10, 191, 4.46

True,

This says BOB wanted Nuk off of the team and while this was about $$$$/length of contract, it wasn't just about those things.

Like I said this isn't about what I would do. For instance I would take chances on guys with character concerns in the draft and FA. (Looking at you Aldon Smith.

This is about the culture BOB's trying to cultivate and me as fan hoping this all works out.
Happy? Ecstatic? Just because we have an opinion doesn't mean we want to see this team fail. So forgive us if we are all a little hesitant to crown them champs in April given the fact that we haven't had a reason to be optimistic since football came back to Houston.

How you got this from my post is beyond me.

You must be going stir crazy or something.

Lmao at these excuses but when it comes to Watson we’re hearing a different story. Cook had 4 good games and 12 bad ones. Lol

So this is the way it's going to be, your world revolves around DW4.

Cooks has a very solid track record that speaks for itself. He's played on winners everywhere he's been and with 2 GOAT's. If all of the WR's stay healthy and your guy doesn't succeed then that's on him.

Cant wait for your next blame it all on a brother post.

Cook and Johnson are returning to their pro bowl level while Watson is regressing because of 5 games. Unreal.

Cooks will be fine. Why do you think he cant return to form? Much more than 5 games. But hey, there will be no more excuses if the WR corps stays healthy and this is a good thing. IMHO.

Agreed on DJ, he's got alot to prove.

Continue on with the negativity

BOB acquisition trade = Fair Market Value + 2 rounds overpayment
BOB forfeiture trade = FMV - 2 rounds underpayment
This is the formula other GM's are using.

How do you figure this is and what's fair market value? Who determines this? I think the Cooks trade was fair value.

Read CnD's thoughts in the injury thread if you need comfort when it comes to this trade. Plus I take comfort in Cooks only missing 2 games in 5 yrs.

And paying someone who had 42 receptions last year 12 million a year is just me being foolish? Hopkins had 104 receptions at 12.5 million last year.

But let's send him on his way?

@thunderkyss

The obvious answer is less.

Dude ranked 95th in the nfl with those receptions (tied with 4 others) but you guys wanna pay him a mint.

Spin it how you like. We overpayed.

If you take the collective salary of every other player in 2019 who got 42 receptions and divide by 4 (total others) you dont get 12 million a year...

You get 5.452 million per year in salary. And I didnt do the research but I'm willing to wager none of them had 5 concussions.

I'll give you some leeway. I'd stomach 8 million a year and maybe a bit more.

12 is a joke.

It’s the other way around. Don’t try to spin it on me. We all know the real deal.

Let's review what was in question...

I described Brandin Cooks as overpayed with injury concerns.

I've followed suit with post that justify that. I didn't go out on a limb to say it.

Let's trim the fat @JB. You either find this statement to be accurate or you dont. Where do you stand?

I think you and others are letting your hate overcome your common sense. You're ignoring his career to put all emphasis on his last year on a bad Rams offense. And I'll go with CnD's analysis of his concussions. He doesn't have near the injury concerns you are trying to portray

And do you find my post outrageous or agreeable?
I don't think it's either.

Not outrageous, you think we are overpaying him. But to compare him to JuJu on his rookie deal is hitting below the belt.

I don't agree with you. You know these contracts aren't based on a single season. Career wise, it looks about right to me.

Now the question I have is why did his production (as well as Gurly's) drop so drastically.

I like your post. But again the issue in question was my previous quote:

"Brandin Cooks is overpaid with injury concerns."

Is that or is it not accurate?

It's been discussed why this happened. The entire Rams offense sucked.

I read somewhere it was 8 mil this year and if he doesn't produce they can cut him with very little cap ramifications.

I think last year was an outlier. I'm actually very happy to get a wr with speed that's only missed 2 games in the last 5 years.

Your skirting the issue. Over payed with injury concerns or no?

To me it is not accurate. To you it may be

I dont think my opinion is off kilter and I have yet to see anyone tell me why such a simple statement is wrong.

I hope your right and he out plays his contract with far more then 40 ish receptions.

I'm not rooting against the team. I just dont like this deal.

Some are trying to blame the young quarterback for that. Some are trying to blame the offensive line.

Gurley never recovered from his injury.

That's right up Obrien's alley. Remember he told AJ he was only getting 40 receptions. So with all of these weapons we have it's a good chance Cook will only be targeted 40-50 times.

Ok you don’t like the deal, fair enough. However it’s your reasons for why you say you don’t like the deal that I’m having a hard time understanding. At first you said it was how much we are paying him but you said you would be fine with 8 million. Well 8 million is how much we have to pay him so what’s the issue?

Next it was injury history which I also had a lot of concerns about so I asked the resident expert. I know you read the post so it seems that his injury history is being over blown and that he’s not any more at risk for a career ending injury than any other player. So if injury history isn’t as big a concern, according to a medical professional who is usually very tough on NFL doctors, then what’s the issue?

Ok then it was that it cost us a second round pick. I know many on here have said we could have got him for a 3rd or 4th but when asked where those numbers came from the only answer is basically out of thin air based on the idea OB always over pays so in other words their backsides. What is fact is that Pats gave up a 1st for him and then Rams gave up a 1st for him. I don’t believe he would have been worth a 1st this time but based on his value history a 2nd seems right on the mark so what’s the issue?

Finally it was his production dropped off but so did Gurly’s and every other offensive player on the Rams this season so maybe there was a bigger issue. Personally I think it’s Geoff who seems to have started phoning it in since he got paid. I will agree with you his numbers aren’t as high as Hopkins but part of that is Watson targets Hopkins 3 out of every 5 passes. Not saying I blame him, I would target the WR that makes QBs look good to, but it does bloat Hopkins numbers. So if his last season, where every Rams player looked bad, isn’t a representation of the player what’s the issue?

And that doesn't justify a 12m a year salary...

But let's keep that a secret

again, salary is only 8m for 2020

Read an experts note on Cook

EXPERT NOTE
The fun part is trying to figure out who will disappoint out of the Rams WR trio if they decide to continually target the TE or if the TE targets were mostly due to Cooks absence. What I hadn't realized is that Cooks only missed 2 games(Basically 3). Despite still being around the TE revolution still happened, and the consistency of the WRs suffered. Almost 2 less targets per game for Cooks in 2019 vs 2018. Passer Rating when targeted: 2019 - 88.1, 2018 - 115.9, 2017 - 106.9

Did you read your own post? You make an argument and follow it with a disclaimer again and again and again.

Is cooks overpaid? Does he have injury concerns?

Those are simple questions.
