Texans @ Chiefs - 2nd Round (And Round 2)

another phenomenal job of isolating strength vs weakness from the FO staff. Good read .. even for the eye test crowd!

Kelce should feast then. Also getting Tyreek, and Hardman involved in the short screen game can be deadly with their RAC ability and breakaway speed. A lot is gonna depend defensively on getting someone to fill in Thornhills spot respectively. Mahomes doesn't have to hit a homerun every throw, the defense has stepped up to the plate this season. He’s been good at taking what the defense is giving him this year, which has led to lower stats. But it should pay big dividends in the post season. Very excited to see how we match up this time around with a fairly healthy team.

I mean I keep hearing you guys pull the health card, and rightfully so, but Houston should be healthier also, especially on the defensive side. We'll see - if its a blizzard - who will feast? If its a war of attrition that will be fought its crazy that this thought even came to me, but Bill OBrien wins that war. You can not out stubborn this man, and if it comes down to 3 yards and a cloud of snow I like our chances. I cant help but think Andy Reid will try to get cute a few times.

If the weather is clear enough to have an unimpeded football game, then of course that favors the Chiefs at home. Texan fans are hanging onto the magic of Deshaun Watson and hoping he has enough to get it done again. Who knows. I think KC defense has become a problem, much more so than early in the year during the first matchup. I remember thinking back to that game and asking myself how the hell this KC team would be able to thrive with that bad of a defense, but they have really turned it around. Houston will throw a bunch of 1st round draft picks at you in the secondary and hope that it impresses someone, but Im not holding my breath. Im hoping that they allow Justin Reid to cover Kelce since he is probably the most prepared to do so, but it may turn into some kind of quarters/ cover 3 type bracket stuff .. again depending on weather.

Man all I can hope for is a good game, but you guys have every tool in the shed to wrap this up by the half. Houston better be prepared.

The Texans don't have a great venue to acclimate to cold weather............even if they practiced outside, the temps have not been that cold during the day. If they were really forward thinking, they would have delayed their week's non contact practices until weather reached its coldest earlier in the week (40s) and played in NRG with the roof open. It's too late now, as the lows are not expected to get below 60 tonight or tomorrow night.
"Forward thinking" ? Cut it out C&D you are cracking me up, but I gotta admit for a doctor you've got a pretty dang good sense of humor.
Remember this is the organization that waited until the last possible moment to do the deal when they had years to reach a resolution to determine how to work something with former star edge player JDC90.

Regardless of how the game Sunday ends. Seems we will be seeing a lot of each other in the post season for years to come. Lots of talent on both rosters. Could be the makings of the new Brady vs Manning.

The Chiefs are still on a Sugar High after a soft schedule. Texans should have won the last meeting 40-24.
Texans 35
Chiefs 24
Soft schedule? What you talkin about? 40-24? You must be new to football. KC isn’t some team that gets beat by more than a TD when they do lose. Check the record, you guys got crushed multiple times this season. Baltimore, TB, Broncos. When we lose it’s a close game. Gonna be a rough one for you after this game I think! 35-24? Lmao, took 5 quarters to beat Josh Allen. You guys have a good team, but coaching is holding you back.

Only took 4 to beat ya'll in week 6....... :). Down our top 3 CBs and our 3rd best recieving threat no less. You guys are a good team & in alot of ways much better than us...but you're not invincible. You guys' best shot to win it all may have been last year when noone saw yall coming.

Come on now....facts. TB did not beat the Texans. Only appeared that way. Ravens and Broncos kicked it around on the Texans.
And it took your Chiefs til the last 30 seconds of the game to beat the Lions (a 3 win Lions team)....so there's that.

There is always arguments about this or that and that's what this is all about. Just don't think your team is gonna go in there and mop the floor with this team. Are the Chiefs better, I'd say yes. But if I'm in a barfight I want my team by my side. This team will kick the hell out of you. We may not win but you're gonna know you've been in a fight. A good ol brawl.

12-4
#2 seed
Yeah we’re not that good.

The Bills game, i fully expected us to win that game. And as hard as it was on my heart, they did it. The beauty in this game for me is that i come in expecting nothing. We are expected to get our doors blown off. Every video from every ESPN talking head show has us loosing this game & if i were a betting man, I would most definitely put my money on KC to win it.

But if we are within 7-10 points late in this game....I'm going to so enjoy watching Reid and KC fans puckering up a little bit knowing that we have a guy under center who can do the same thing Luck did to them in that 2013 wildcard game against the Colts.

Never said the Chiefs weren't any good.
Reading comprehension....it's a good thing.
Pointing out a loss to a 3 Win Lions team when your team lost at home to the panthers. So ready for this game. Hope you fellas make it back to Chiefsplanet for some crow Sunday evening. Look at the whole spectrum. We beat the Ravens, beat the Pats to keep the 2 seed alive. All your team had to do after beating us was keep up the pace and the 2 seed was within your grasp. Instead you got the 3, then took over a full game to beat the Bills while making Josh Allen look like Joe Montana. If you think beating the Josh Allen led
Bills at your house was hard, Sunday is gonna be a rough go.

Eat Crow? Once again, majority of us are picking the Chiefs to win.

It seems like you desperately want to get into an argument with someone that thinks the Texans are better than the Chiefs... but you're not getting any bites.

I'll be cheering on the Texans but I just don't see them getting past the Chiefs Sunday. Our secondary is going to be roughed up I'm afraid.

We'll see what Watson and DHop can do with the ball.

There’s a possibility the Texans & titans could both win. I keep hearing the chiefs defense are good but let’s get the facts straight. The last 6 qbs theyve played were Lock Rivers(x2) Brady Carr and Trubisky. Hate to be the spoiler but they’re about to get a rude awakening. Will Fuller dropped 3 touchdowns last meeting. Also dw is undefeated against top 5 defenses (not saying chiefs are)... leads the league in comebacks (11).... quote after the win last week “somebody had to be great, why not me”. He’s on a mission. This game could get ugly early on for the chiefs. Will be a good one for sure if mahomes plays great.

Somehow, I believe too many are underestimating the importance of the Texans running game possibly being the most important key for a potential win..........even more important this game than our passing game. I am of the belief that where our running game goes so will go the end game.

Get off your high horse. ALL good teams lose.

I never said the Chiefs suck. I said they lost to a team that sucked! As did the Texans. Hell the Pats lost to FitzMagic and the Fins!! The Ravens got boat raced by the damn Browns! You see, good teams lose. It happens.

Again, I never said the Chiefs suck. All I’ve maintained in this thread is that this game is going to be closer than people think.

I’m hoping for a good, entertaining game that isn’t decided by the officiating. And if the Chiefs happen to win I’ll be rooting for them to win the SB. The Ravens and Titans can go pound sand!!

And by the way, if you think Allen’s performance resembled Montana’s, I don’t know what to tell you. It was far from Montanaesque.

Coaching? Our Coach comes from the New England Tree. I guess you have not seen their record the last 15 years..Six Super Bowl wins..Obrian has just waited for the right team to make a run. It starts Sunday ...BOOYAH

Texans will win. Chiefs are a talented team. But their team is mentally weak. Their coach is his own worst enemy in the playoffs.

The way the Chiefs win is if the Texans who’s biggest problem is inconsistency forget to show up. In other words the Texans have to beat themselves.

It will be close for sure, a real slug fest. Can the chiefs. Yea.

But they won’t.

Welcome and I think Fisher being back is going to make a big difference between the 1st time and when they play this time.

Good point about Thornhill. How has Jones looked since he got back from injury? Has the addition of Suggs made the pass rush/Clark better?

Jones has been pretty dominant. Clark actually had a nerve thing in his neck the first half of the season and he wasnt very good until that subsided so he has been more productive recently. Suggs has already got a sack since he arrived. I think he’s basically just a body but one that we needed because our top three DE’s coming into the season are all injured.

All of the sudden it appears Chris Jones was listed as “limited” in practice which is a concern.

Interesting peice here from football outsiders on Justin Reid and the Texans ability to defend the deep ball. Mahomes being greedy really may have been problematic in the last game.

FWIW it looks like the snow will be long gone by gametime on Sunday. Forecast is for sun and 34 degrees. Weather shouldnt be a factor. It does appear this might be the coldest game Watson has ever played in but these types of temperatures arent going to make much if an impact.

I kinda wish it would snow because Mahomes seems to love it. Says its helps him grip the ball better and he has been outstanding in extreme weather games the last two years.

Something everyone forgot last time we played. Players need to execute and be great.

So many missed opportunities to score:

The Chiefs got some help here. Will Fuller dropped a couple passes that could have been touchdowns. DeAndre Hopkins couldn’t come up with a catch near the goal line, and on the next play Charvarius Ward one-handed an end zone interception. Rookie Juan Thornhill also collected an end zone interception (though knocking the ball down would’ve given KC better field position than the ensuing touchback).

IF any team takes another team lightly at this stage in the season... the entire staff should be fired in the offseason.

Unfortunately I don't see them looking past us, but it's a good thing DW spent the offseason being baptized in the Jordan.... cause we will need a miracle.
What sucks is that on paper in most positions we are as good if not better than the Chiefs but their head coach and most of their coaching staff is better than ours!

Look for us around here it's like this (I see a ugly ass kid, I mean ugly ! But their parent sees their "beautiful" baby. Ask that parent if their kid is ugly and they will say know. But we all know that no one can think something that ugly is cute, even their parent). We are that parent and the Texans are ours soooo you can't come to us calling our kid ugly and expect us to fully agree ! We will defend this team and root for this team, that should be expected when you come to our house for play time....

To be honest, the Chiefs schedule was fairly soft. Your division was weak this year, with every other team finishing under .500. You also struggled against our division (AFC South) finishing 1-3 (loss, to us, Titans, Colts). You only beat a handful of "good" teams (ie. Vikings, Ravens, Pats, etc.) this year and all those wins were by 7 points or less. The Chiefs were far from impressive this year.

We had the 3rd hardest SOS, Texans has 5th. So by your calculations if our SOS was fairly soft then Texans must have been marshmallow? But none of that matters anyway this week. It’s win or go home. Teams we played this season don’t matter to this game. Hopefully whoever wins this one can go into Baltimore and win one more with not many injuries. Win or lose I’ll be back here after the game.

Chiefs fan here. Both of these teams have pluses and minuses. Likely whoever has the ball in the last 2 minutes wins.

Agree Chiefs defense is improved but played a softer schedule down the stretch. It only needs to be a little better than last year and it is. Offense seems dialed down from last year. Maybe it is teams adjusting or KC adjusting. Part of me says Reid is getting Mahomes to play small ball more to control the clock a little better. Interior oline is a hot mess with starters that are simply not that good. Thus the poor run game.

Texans. Thrashed KC first game and that was not because of injuries. Both teams had injuries. I think the KC D has improved enough to slow that down a little. The Texans have enough weapons to score often. Watson is a star for sure. Watson is also a living sack. He runs into two or three per game. Everyone gives him credit for the GREAT ESCAPE last week and forgets the other 3 sacks he took from simply not throwing the ball way. They also forget that it was an equally awesome run after the 10 yard pass. When Watson learns to throw it away he will be unstoppable.

Bottom Line. Well matched teams. It will likely come down to turnovers, special teams, penalties and in game injuries. Should be an exciting game. I hope the Refs stay the **** out of the story. I hope both teams stay healthy. Let the players play. I see a close game with KC kicking a last minute field goal for a 30-27. Im not a super bowl or bust guy and look forward to this match up. Win or lose its been an entertaining , fun, season.

Enjoy the game.

I fail to see how you have 3rd hardest SOS when 6 of your games (divisional) are all teams under .500. KC plays in the weakest division in the league. Anyway. Should be a great game. Good luck to both teams!

Mahomes will never be able to give a pre game speech to motivate the players.

When he is speaking all the players will be able to think of is “Where is Miss Piggy and Fonzi?”

I dont disagree. Both teams beat some good teams and lost to some not good teams. Cant see a reason for anyone to feel their team is elite or superior to the other. Both teams have good offenses and questionable defenses. Should be a real battle.
