Agree with Powda and badboy above.

Well, I'm just disappointed that the board had to resort to this point system with bans and such. About the only thing I have ever seen out of line was when someone refers to genitalia and tells another poster what they can do with it. In my mind, calling O'Brien a bastard or stupid mofo, or saying that the Texans got their asses kicked isn't nearly so bad as calling another poster a racist because that poster doesn't think Watson is a franchise QB.

Anyway, I'll leave it alone, I shouldn't have even brought this up. I just thought the whole thing was a bit much considering that the members here are pretty damn well-behaved.
Let's see how it works practically on a day by day basis. I don't think it will effect the average poster much.

I hope I don't get a point let alone banned: In our conversations with each other it's hilarious to me that we have to have such definition. I would have thought that most of us had graduated ninth grade. If a poster disagrees with me or has a different opinion that does not mean he spit on my penny loafers nor is challenging me to a Gunfight at the ok Corral. If I realize that I have irritated or offended someone I should be Okay with apologizing and moving on. Anyway I just heard the school bell and it's recess time and there is a mud puddle that I want to play in and splash on the others in this message board.

We didn't resort to this - the feature came as part of the upgrade to the new server. We didn't even know about it until someone got put in time out.

I was simply explaining that the feature exists and how it works. Nothing more.
When someone reports your post we have the option of sending a warning along with whatever we do with the content be that delete , edit or leave it as is. Five warnings in a ~30 day period gets you a two day time out.

Yes , for the most part this is a well behaved bunch here on TT …. but there are those who in the past have pee'd in the pool. This feature gives the mods a tool to deal with those who cant disagree and remain civil.

As I stated earlier , I haven't sent 5 warning points total since the feature went live. So like @powda said above …. relax. No one's getting banned for business as usual ….

All good, thanks for the explanation. Sorry if I sounded grouchy. I guess my excuse is that I was making beef jerky in my offset smoker, I got busy and let the fire get too big, and ended up with beef "potato chips."

Y'all keep up the good work!

Many MBs have very similar "rules" and point systems............but most of their moderators don't try to extend the courtesy to their members to go into fine detail of the underlying mechanisms feeding the system leading to discipline............it just "happens."

I think we're on the same page. I don't think anyone will be warned for insulting the Texans if they keep it clean.

Let me clarify, I am all for the program just wished it was not a necessary thing.

It would be nice if we could go back to a time when the threads were less about one particular member of this board and more about the topic of the thread(s).

There’s already a thread created about the guy. Can’t that suffice so that discussions about the Texans can continue w/o having them interrupted?

Edit: I apologize for my own interruption. I was just getting caught up with this thread and I kept reading about the pro’s and con’s of the guy on the “hot seat”. It gets frustrating.

Agreed. I also agree with what Arlington posted. But ultimately it is on the Mods. If you don't want every thread to be responses to one poster's constantly repeated posts either that poster needs to be reined in, or else every other poster has to abandon the message board.

Maybe they could set a limit of say 100 posts saying the same thing without adding anything new, then you are not allowed to beat that horse anymore.

Or give him his thread that he is limited to posting in, whether the "Hot Seat" or a new one. Then anyone interested in his latest thoughts can go there and Texans could be discussed in all the other threads.

It isn't his fault that multiple members continue to go into threads either trying to troll him or prove themselves and their arguments to Steel in every Texans thread. I agree that it has gotten annoying, but the members in this forum that continue to drag their arguments with him into every thread aren't being forced to do that. Why do people care so damn much about what one member thinks of Watson? If his opinions are so dumb to certain people, then why engage with him at all? Its a pretty easy solution.

I thought we were moving forward. So why continue to harp on the little beef. It's a sports blog and it's entertaining. Go check out other sports forums.

Back on topic Watson is a top 5 QB in this league today. Facts!!!

And im glad he's a Houston Texans!!

It is not against the rules to post differing opinions.

I'd hate to see valuable members not contribute, even more to see them leave. But we can all choose what we respond to & what we don't.

Some topics (thought) fade away unless we keep them alive by responding to them.

That’s the key. I’ve got the dude on ignore and 75% of this board is still responses to his ridiculous takes. You can’t get away from it.

And I don’t have him ignored for any kind of censoring or anything like that. It’s not that I’m trying to squash differing opinions. Which BTW, there’s a difference between a differing opinion and trolling. I have him ignored so that I’m not tempted to reply to his trolling takes, for I would surely be put in a corner.

But here I am still responding to this shit because it’s all over the place.

This place used to be somewhere I enjoyed coming to to get all my Texans info because it would almost always be here. I didn’t have to go all over the web looking for stuff, it was all here in one place.

Now this place is basically arguments with a troll. That’s not really not all that enjoyable at all.

It isn’t up to the mods to make changes, put restrictions down or what have you. It’s up to the members to quit playing that game.

I agree with everything but the troll stigma... Steelb has a lot of differing opinions, but it's what he really believes. He's not trying to antagonize anyone intentionally which is what a troll does

Can someone explain to me what a poster's reaction number actually signifies?

powda

Reactions are the laugh, cry, angry options that show up under “like”.
To include dislikes I presume? What about quoting a poster?

Is this intended to substitute the old rep system? Seems pretty flawed.

I do like how points are also displayed when you click on a posters name.

Also, when you scroll down to the members list currently on the site, some names are highlighted. Why?

Correct, they’re all bunched together as reactions. Before you could only like a comment; now you have options including dislike.
Quotes are not included in reactions. That’s just a reply. It would count as a comment
Can’t help w that last one. Don’t see that option but I’m on mobile.

That's the list you see when you click on the member's list. Clearly none are highlighted.

When your on the forum link and scroll down sometimes you see it. Not always. Perhaps certain posters are highlighted differently for all of us? I'll try to print screen it next time I see it.

I mentioned something up thread no one talked about. The alerts function icon. Previous to the site update, it seemed user alerts stood out a bit more. You could see an alert on your phone across the room. I always looked forward to it. Now it's a duller orange on a red background. Seems something like a yellow alert instead would really pop off the screen. I know its trivial or cosmetic. It may not even be an admin option ,but I'd love to see it...

Do you mean the green highlighted name? Those are the ones that contribute. When you sign up to contribute $5 a month, you get in the contributors club and your name is highlighted in green.

Sorry if this was covered up thread, but do posters get a warning they've received a point?

Has this point system actually been used on a poster yet? Perhaps you need a hampster for testing purposes (me.)

15 minutes passed and still my profile doesn't show points...

I gotta be honest, my goal here is to be ignored based on the point system and report back on how it works. Doesn't work if mods are ignoring me.

You have 4 now. The last two will expire in 1 day.

From my understanding you'll be banned when you receive a fifth point. I think until those 2 points expire.

But if it's longer than that I don't know how to unban you.

I don't know why you can't see the points

You can go back to the post and delete the warning or expire the points immediately.

Mouse over Powda's avatar on any post , click on the Warnings , a page with the list of offending posts will open. Select a post from the list.
Scroll down and you will see two options - Delete Warning and Update Warning.

If you like I can go remove the points so he's not banned for being a guinea pig.

Yes , its been used on a member before - That's how we found out about the temp bans. Prior to that person being banned we didn't know about the feature.

Interesting. I recieved a notice telling me I recieved 2 points but when I click on my profile i dont see it.

You don't click on your profile , just mouse over your avatar on any post. It will be on the bottom right of the pop up Warnings:

It takes 5 active points to get a temp ban - I'm not sure if expired points count or not.

Currently you have 5 points from 3 warnings.

1 point is set to expire today - Jan 1.
4 points are set to expire Jan 7.

FuzzyLogic

Mathematically Possible
I don't think regular members see 'Warnings' when mousing over the avatar - we just see a 'points' label, which I'm assuming is what Powda is expecting to see increment but doesn't.

Another assumption but only the mods are going to see the warning points, the forum member is just notified they have received them.

Unless I am missing something...
