NFL Random Thought of the Day

EXCLUSIVE: Carli Lloyd Has Received An Offer From An NFL Team To Kick In A Preseason Game

Gotta admit, if this is true I'm not a big fan of the idea.

Frankly I think she likely has the stuff to make the kicks. She's shown a little of that already. But she hasn't done it in pads, in a helmet, with a packed line of scrimmage raging in front of her, etc. But that's not even my biggest concern, at all. Let's just give benefit of the doubt that she could perform the task in a live game situation as that wouldn't come as a complete surprise either to be honest.

How many times have we seen kickers with their hands on the ball in the event a kick is blocked? Like, plenty. And so what happens then? This sounds like a ridiculous predicament for whoever ends up barreling toward her from the other team more than anything. Do you light her up? I mean, you have to right?

Nope, don't like this at all.

If she is willing to step out there, nobody should feel bad about hitting her (legally) if the situation arises.

If they are going to allow female kickers they'll have to have an exception where they can't be hit, and the (female) kicker can't touch the ball (except kicking it ofcourse). The fact that there can and probably will be incidental contact is something else again though.

At the risk of sounding sexist, I just don’t see how she has the leg strength to be adequate from 40+. It’s hard enough for much stronger men.

That said, I have no problem with her giving it a shot.

Then they won't be signed/used. You're talking about playing 10 v 11 in several situations.

Wow! I'm sure that if any women's organizations are giving out Sexist Pig of the Year awards they will be giving you a call.

I think you are missing a few things.

1. She is a Soccer player. Although kickers are probably much better athletes than in the old days, she is still probably in better shape than 90 percent of NFL kickers. Who do you want picking up the ball? Toni Fritsch? Tom Dempsey? Chester Marcol? Garo Yepremian?

2. She is a Soccer player (who is not a goalie). It would go against every fiber of her being to touch a ball with her hands while it is in bounds.

3. This is just for a publicity stunt for one or two kicks in a preseason game (which she turned down) not a full time gig.

1. I'd prefer no kicker handling the ball. I'd prefer even less a 5'7 140 lb woman handling the ball in the line of attack from legit nfl defenders.

2. She's a soccer player, not an idiot. If the ball is in play she can either handle it to benefit her team or choose not to and essentially allow her team to compete a man down. And I played soccer at a competitive level for many years, we're not programmed somehow to actually not touch a ball. We just know not to within the rules of an actual match.

3. Have you followed her, and her reps, comments since? They're not approaching the subject like a mere pr stunt. They've tried to broach the subject as an actual plausible idea. And if it were just a pr move it makes those subsequent comments come off even more ridiculous in their incredulity.

And as for the first part ... go f*ck yourself. I've had nothing to say ugly or demeaning about women or women's rights to compete in pro sports and earn money doing so. I have nothing to say detrimental to the wnba, the nwsl, or any other women's sports organizations. I have a daughter and I'd hope that doors were open to her to compete against the best women in the world for good money in front of passionate fans if that's what she wanted to do. I do not though want to see her run up against the best freaks of nature on the planet in a physically confrontational situation and risk her health and well being unnecessarily for all of a silly ass publicity stunt. Cause ya know, I actually give a sh*t about her.

Wwaahhh! Wwaahhh! I've been triggered!
Oh my! Someone is a very fragile person who needs someone to protect them from their own choices, and I don't mean Carli Lloyd or your daughter.

Maybe your daughter could handle the intervention. "Dad, we are restricting your internet access to cat videos."
”But, my message boards.."
"No Dad. Those are bad for you. Someone might point out the truth and you will get upset and post something silly. It drives your blood pressure up. I know you think you are capable of handling it, but I know better. Believe me, I am only doing this because, ya know, I actually give a sh*t about you."

Seriously do you think any women's organization on the planet is going to take your side against Carli Lloyd's side? When NOW calls to tell you about your nomination for Sexist Pig of the Year, just give them the same answer you gave here "I'm a man who knows better than a grown woman what is best for her, and she should only be allowed to do what I think is best".

I am sure that every man who has ever held women back only did it because he had their best interest at heart. "Women shouldn't be doctors, be a nurse. Don't be a lawyer, be a teacher. Don't study math and science, those are areas for men. Don't play full court basketball, play 3 girls on offense and 3 on defense and don't ever cross half court.” Was any of this because people hated women? NO! Just like you, they thought they knew better than the women themselves what was best for them.

You are making your stand on a pretty small hill. I bet High School kickers wind up in these situations much more often than NFL kickers. In the NFL the long snappers and the blockers are pretty consistent. In the last 20 years in the NFL one of the biggest hazards for kickers is injuring themselves in a ridiculous celebration.

I was being a little humorous about the ”Soccer player" stuff, but since you were a soccer player humor is probably not your strong suit. I did forget to mention - she's a Soccer player, so if anyone got within 3 feet (sorry, a meter) of her, she would flop to the ground as if a sniper shot her so they would never have a chance to hit her.

None of that makes any sense..

And the most I got 'triggered' was responding to your name calling by telling you what you could do with it. Beyond that I simply responded point by point to what you'd said.

You couldn't even manage to put a post together correctly through all your mania there.

Easy, guy..

I just said what NOW would say, not that I was saying that. Although it looks like my post went right over your head. Doesn't help your argument that soccer players aren't idiots...

All that huh?

Really dude... let's grab a beer.

You went to some outlandish extremes about cat videos and women can't be doctors and soccer players don't like humor or something.

It was all over the place.

And I think you're calling soccer players idiots while defending ... a soccer player. Like, huh?

Like I said, I responded point by point to you earlier. I'm game for a discussion. I'm not game for name calling and inane rambling and bankrupt moral highground silliness. Check my post history on women, homosexuals, and trans and several other subjects where I'm the last person wanting to restrict rights, etc. This is different, imo. And again, if you can collect yourself a moment we can perhaps have an actual convo as to why.

NFL preseason expected to be shortened; expanded playoffs more likely than 18-game season
Under the proposal, seven teams in each conference would qualify for the postseason instead of the current six. One team in each conference, rather than the current two, would receive an opening-round playoff bye. That would make for six first-round playoff games (three in each conference) instead of the current four, one of which might be played on a Monday night. The two additional playoff games probably would be enticing to networks in the NFL’s next set of negotiations for TV rights deals.

I love, love the nfl regular season/post-season structure just the way it is. Also hate the preseason as much as everyone else.

Would much prefer adding one playoff game in each conference over adding two regular season games.

And if that's the compromise to get the preseason shortened I don't think I'd end up hating it.

Under this proposal rather than get a bye the Pats would've played the Pitts in the AFC and the Rams would've done so as well against Minnesota. Meanwhile we would've only had to suffer through 2 or 3 preseason games and the regular season would've stayed perfect just the way it is. I think I could dig that

I like the playoff structure the way it is too. But something has got to be done about the preseason. The fact that these games are regular price is criminal.

Not that it would be much better, but I’d rather pay full price to go to the stadium and watch a scrimmage against another team. At least I’d get to see players I knew a lot longer than the 10 plays they play the entire preseason.

How on earth could any team tolerate this dipsh*t..

..I don't care how talented he is. The entire city of Pittsburgh must be in stitches watching all of this play out.

Are Dwarves over-represented as NFL ballboys or is there one ballboy who travels to loads of games?

When I first saw Cam Newton's injury in preseason, even though they called it a minor foot injury, I told several people the mechanism looked like a lisfranc. I still stand by that.

I watched that first game against the Falcons. Through the first three quarters everything he threw to the right side of the field sailed on him.

He finally was able to complete passes to the right in the 4th quarter. I was thinking he was either experiencing a lot of pain, or not feeling anything at all.

Watching 100 Greatest Plays on NFLN.

They just showed BeastMode abusing the Saints defense and that one didn't make the top ten!

I don’t know why that blocked punt against the Falcons by NO made it. Something something Katrina.

Let’s get over it already!
