CB Ramsey is asking for a trade

frethack

Rookie
Not advocating this, but the only way to get him is to give up players. No way Nuk or Watt are leaving town, and no way the Jags trade him for less.

Fuller and a 2nd?

Would LOVE to have him, but the draft cupboard is bare

Positives of potential trade for Ramsey.
Watson and Ramsey have the same agent.

Watson and Ramsey are friends

O'Brien and Marrone are 20 yr friends

Ramsey would like to be in Houston

Hopkins wants Ramsey here.

Negatives
Same division

Draft collateral

Texans lack of intrest in character guys

I say go all in send a future 1st and a couple of 3rds just get in done. Cap room this year to extend to him. This would make the Texans Superbowl contenders for a extended window.

Early draft picks gone the next few years is tuff but we would be getting guaranteed talent where as draft picks are hit and miss.

Who here would be ok with Watt for Ramsey?
My thoughts:
1. Jags have only $9 million cap so if creative it could be done. Cap + Ramsey is close to Watt's.

2. Jags have to give us someone to replace Watt in future name power. I think that would be Josh Allen or Yannick Ngakoue. I'm guessing Jags would rather keep the latter as they know what he brings although he is in last contract year and is expected to get huge deal. I've posted on this in another thread why I think Ramsey could go.

3. JJ is JJ and any trade will cause fan outcry so any trade would have to quickly be productive. Josh Allen replaces Clowney's former spot, Ramsey becomes our best corner and Omenihu starts in place of Watt.

4. We would have to throw in something IMO.

Should the players have a say in that?
Changed my post as Favre did retire a Packer, then came out of retirement, then...:).

To answer your question, I really don’t know. I would want to have the final say if it were I, but on the other hand, it’s more ‘business’ now it seems with players than passion for team, so can’t really say. My HOPE is that iconic players like Watt and others who are quote, “the faces” of their respective teams, would want to retire where they’ve become so symbolic of.

Hold up ... you 'don't know' if people should have a say in where they work?

You think watts value is worth josh Allen and Ramsey? God I wish you were Jacksonville’s GM.

CB Jalen Ramsey’s agent asked for a trade after yesterday’s loss at Houston, league sources tell @mortreport and me
The Jaguars have spoken with interested teams, but there is no current plan to trade Ramsey.

Jags want a 1st round and more.
No we can not lose active talent to get him otherwise it's 1 step forward 2 backwards. Send draft talent a 1st and a 2nd down the road.

Did you somehow forget that O'Brien just traded away all of their assets in the near future?

Jesus, if you're going to start threads at least have basically awareness. The Texans are the last team in the league that can do this. End/Thread.

There is always a way to get it done it's just if the Texans are willing to do it.

Texans
1st 2020 gone 2nd 2020 gone
1st 2021 gone

Could give
3rd 2020 Seattle
2nd 2021
1st 2022

The extra 3rd is for the wait.

High price yes but just like Tunsil how often does proven young talent like Ramsey become attainable?

No, that isn't getting it done.

You see this is going to come up every. single time one of you wants some flashy player in the next few years. That Tunsil trade that many people defended is going to always come up. They can't trade jack now. Not only is there draft pick value gone in the near future, but once they start paying Watson and Tunsil there won't be much money left for a #1 shut down corner like a Ramsey. This has ZERO CHANCE of happening. The Texans ruined their future for quite some time.

As long as O'Brien is gm there is always a chance at over paying for talent. We in Madden mode now. Plus I think O'Brien is feeling some heat.

Okay, this post I'll agree with you.

But they can't just keep trading their picks away. They're very valuable considering the fact that when you hit on one you are generally getting very good value to what you're paying out to the cap. We need every pick we can get and salvage at this point.

What about trading Watt to a contender for a first and third? Say NE? Watt would at least have a legit chance to play in a Super Bowl and we could use those picks for Ramsey a young stud CB to grow with this other than Watt young team. I love Watt and don’t want this to happen but interesting discussion. If it did happen I couldn’t say it was a dumb move.

NE needs Oline even worse than the Texans now. They're out both LT and RT and their C came down with a blood clot ending his entire season a few days before game one. The Pats are probably trying to get Trent Williams I would suspect. They don't need Watt like they need Oline.

In the hypothetical its a great move.

In the real world what is the team worth to the hearts and minds of the fans if this is the way it operates? Why would NE give up a 1st and 3rd for a player who's probably given his best 5 years ago, is earning a fortune (arguably beyond his current and future value), and has core injuries piling up that will catch up to him sooner than later?

I agree but take feelings out of the equation and look at it as a cold blooded business deal. Out of the two players who would have the bigger impact over the next few years?
I completely understand and agree with you from that perspective.

I want no part in a player who wants to be traded due to their head coach not calling for a challenge when he thinks he should. That particular play did not determine the outcome of the game. I know he is talented but if he is upset over something so trivial, how long before he is dissatisfied with any other coach or even teammate? There are times when asking for a trade could be understood but under these circumstances it is ridiculous.

Then you’ve got to get Ramsey paid, along with Tunsil and then Watson. You have no draft capital to add pieces on the cheap and no money to add FA or re-up your own guys, with all the big contracts you have to give out.

There were rumors of Ramsey asking for a trade long before the season started.... @badboy made a number of posts about it

Would certainly make our secondary dangerous again.
I personally would love to see JJ and the Texans get a ring and if our O gels and we have a secondary this team will be a contender.
Will suck if we have no draft picks but who cares as long as we have a squad?

Even from a cold blooded business deal it doesn't make sense. Texans have no issues selling tickets so winning a SB might mean they can hike the price up a bit but they do that anyway. Watt on the other hand is a walking, talking PR dream. All those commercials and everything else they get a cut of because he wears the Texans jersey. Likewise all the community stuff he does is great for the team image. Plus how many people buy tickets and come to see the Texans just for Watt? Even with Watson and Hopkins Watt is still the face of the team and the person even non-football fans know. We on this board tend to look at everything through the football and winning lens but I promise you the Texans F/O doesn't. Maybe they should but honestly I'd rather have Watt there raising 10s of thousands of dollars helping hurricane recovery than I would some shiny trophy that I'll never get to see or touch anyway.
